And everywhere you sell you will have to pay fees. Target, Walmart, etc. And if you think of opening your own store you will not pay a fee but your infrastructure cost will shoot through the roof.
Do you mean the open source repositories that depend on *GASP* corporate oversight and financial contributions to exist?

Nothing in life is free.

Let me repeat that, since it sounded vaguely important.

Nothing in life is free.

Should the corporate money dry up, most of the "free" hosting you perceive would instantly disappear. Most of the "projects" in open source would cease to exist. Virtually all Linux development would cease, for example.

Those "open source" repositories?

Apple take a fee from devs annually.

Tne 'we've got to cover our sever costs' as an excuse for one of the richest companies in world gouging 30% of someone elses business just doesn't cut it.

So, as a corporation, you have control over your products, if you are a 'favorite corporation', and don't try to rock the boat for social change, and social responsibility?

Got it.

We all lose if this crap survives. What's next? Attacking Pepsi to bring back the 3-litre bottle? Stomping on McDonald's to force them to offer the McRib and Shamrock Shake year round? Spanking Starbucks to make them keep the PSL on the menu? Bringing back Quisp cereal because, why not? Stomping on Van Helen to make them hire Sammy again?

The incredible overreach of these ill thought out attacks on corporate self-governance, and their products, are outrageous and ridiculous. ALEC must be bored after passing so many 'defend your property' bills, and other red meat...

These bills are patently illegal, but that's not stopping the 'bill mills'. Truly sad. And embarrassing...

EDIT: Who would hate that? *shrug*

If you're so passionate about that you'll have a stroke when you find out the business practices of Amazon.

Who said it was free?

You literally said that.

I never implied hosting and (and maintaining) the servers was free.

Yes, you literally did.

As I pointed out, this "free" hosting evaporates in an instant if corporate money stops flowing. Therefore, things are not quite as "free" as you picture them.

I said they host your package for free. Free of charge (to the package owner).

Except that's not what you said. That's what you are saying now.

You would think Apple could totally do it as well if that means having lots of apps that enrich its platform (the iPhone).

... and if you think this, you couldn't be more wrong if you tried.

Thank you for supplying a fantastic post on why we should avoid third-party App Stores !

Because Apple's app store is so safe?

You should avoid leaving your house. It's dangerous outside.

Yes to all of the above.

The economically ignorant masses will demand more and more because the gutless, spineless politicians will not simply put their feet down and declare : No. No more.

That's just it, Apple rocked someone's boat… but it's not the people complaining, and the politicians don't just randomly decide to go after something the people aren't passionate about, unless someone is paying them to do so… someone who didn't like their boat being rocked the wrong way…

As someone else said, "follow the money".

I'm sure its Epic and FB

The more this antitrust thing evolve, the more I realise quite a few Americans enjoy companies operating their business with no regulation and no restrictions. I don’t know how this will pan out. Maybe Texas electricity market can give me some hint.

Nobody has told Apple to host an app for free.

I disagree.

If I can sell something directly, and a store is selling the same thing, SOMEONE loses. I remember the whole 'Apple e-books' debacle. The lore of the issue, to me, came down to 'Apple is charging big money for my content in their store, and I'm getting more money, but I'm not getting enough for what they are charging'. So, Apple is getting 'content' out there, people are buying the 'content', and then Apple is supposed to 'sponsor' that 'content' for free?

Stores 'charge' for shelf space. If that shocks you, WAKE UP! If product one has a 20% margin, and product 2 has a 25% margin, who is the store going to prominently show off? Oh, the product with the 15% margin, of course.

To the courts that are about to rule on the Epic Games disaster, they are about to tell Apple, and every other company, they CAN'T MAKE A PROFIT ON 'CONTENT'. They can't protect their users/customers and earn a profit for that service. Nice to know. That sets a precedent for a lot of the products we purchase. So, cars have to all be the same price? They are all four wheels. What's the difference? Ridiculous? I depend on Apple to save me from malicious apps. If the Apple Store ends, life changes. I'm not comfortable with it... Whatever...

Hilarious Conservatives micro managing business. Next they will tell businesses what kind of cakes they can or cannot bake. Or is it hypocrisy?

So… your signature says "I didn't leave Apple Inc, Apple Inc left me."… and… when will you be leaving MR, because surely you have no interest being here since you obviously aren't using any Apple products any more, right?
Way to not address my comment and introduce irrelevency to the topic at hand. Welcome to the block list

Excellent, more good news. Glad some people are wising up to this.

Oh sure, until the rampant over charging goes full hog wild and people scream at Apple for not stopping it better yet suing them. People think the fraudulent apps are bad now , just wait.

I am of the opinion that if you are offered through the app store you have to comply with their rules but Apple should let you install from other sources and are totally off the hook if you do

I love when people conflate free-market actions and governmental interference, then use that to extrapolate future "failings" of capitalism.

And this country is awash in 'dark money'. The NRA was caught LAUNDERING money from Russia for the 2016 elections. The problem with 'dark money' is there are NO LIMITS to how much can be given, and NO LIMITS as to where it comes from. It's like magic. Want to literally 'Buy A Politician'? You can, in America. If you have enough money, you can literally buy a politician.

Dark money has to end. The idea that political contributions are protected by the first amendment as 'speech' has to end.

Money is NOT SPEECH! The problems in this country are the ruthless rich SPEAK FAR TOO LOUDLY!!! They SHOUT OVER LOGIC AND REASON!!!

As an apple customer or observer if one has a philosophical dislike as to the fees one can take their business elsewhere.

It’s similar to questioning target As to what their stocking fees are.

I assume the bill is written by and sponsored be Epic or Tencent, just like the one in North Dakota? Why do I get the impression that some representatives in more backward states are up for sale?
A whole state is backard just because you disagree with a bill written by a representative from the state?
Your opinion dictates which states are backwards?
