Wow. That is so sad to see for a professional sporting event. :(

Tampa is a good team too. It's not like they are in last place. MLB has a huge problem with the Florida teams. Was a mistake to put teams there,

You wouldn't have thought so would you, but the Rays and Marlins are always at or near the bottom in attendance. Hockey I get and I can understand why teams like Carolina, Arizona, and Florida struggle (though Tampa Bay Lightning have done fairly well). But you would think Baseball would be well attended.

If they are that bad, then they deserve to play in an empty stadium.

Not always. From 2011 to 2016 the Colorado Rockies had losing seasons, while pulling in at least 2.5 million fans a year during that same time period.

It’s sort of a chicken and the egg situation though. You need fans to show up and buy tickets in order to generate revenue to invest in the team. But obviously in down years, less fans will show up. For a team like the Rays, it’s a perpetual cycle because they rely on good draft picks to build the team so they only have a 2-4 year window or so of being a good team before they go back to sucking again because they can’t resign their core players and trade them away due to their limited resources.

Or you have owners like Loria and just use the team to stuff their pockets....

I saw that too. Horrible thing to have to happen. Reminds me of the time a child ran out from between two cars right in front of my vehicle. Luckily I was able to stop in time. But even for something that is not your fault, it is something that is hard to deal with at the time and would be hard to live within the event of serious injury or death.

Here is some news on the child apparently going to be OK.

The nets in all MLB parks have been extended to the dugouts. Some dugouts are closer to home than others. The standard needs to be based on feet, not stadium layouts. With all the tech in use for exit velocity, etc., you'd think they could establish a "spray chart" for dangerous line drives into the stands and set a safe/safer limit.

The child in Houston was well past third base, I think. There were videos all over the internet if anyone wants to hunt one down.

So far, media reports have focused on who shot Ortiz, and apprehending that person. Soon, we'll be hearing about why this person shot him, and I don't think it will make Ortiz look good.

Why do you even speculate that?

Why do you say this?

So I have a few friends and family members that live in the Dominican Republic and the overwhelming talk and gossip has been that he was shacking up with the wife of one of the biggest drug lords in the country. Now this is gossip of course but it is pretty unanimous as everyone from different parts of the country is recanting the same story. I'm sure the real story will come out soon enough from a reliable source as the police have most of the suspects in custody and its only a matter of time before they work their way up the chain.

Yes, pure speculation on my part. Why? It's just how such stories usually play out.
Something happens, doesn't make sense. (Why would someone shoot a guy just because he's famous? There's usually more to it than that.) Then more facts come out, bringing logic along with it.
There's more going on than meets the eye, so far. So if someone was mad enough at him to have him shot, he did something they didn't like. Whatever that is will not likely make Ortiz look like a really good guy.

Reports are that David Ortiz wasn't the target. How could you mistake David Ortiz the more famous person in the whole country? Sounds fishy to me.
[doublepost=1561069647][/doublepost]In other news, The Tampa/Montreal Rays?

Well, sure. It had lots of empty seats during games. ;)

The Rays are asking for 2 new stadiums! Tax payers in Tampa and Montreal, hide your money!
