Hmm... Calendar (just Calendar) on me.com seems to get stuck at "Loading events..." with a spiral thing and it keeps reloading the page.

Also, it's a bit weird how it pushes stuff up from Windows, but it wont go down to my Mac very quickly.

According to the guy I spoke with at Apple, Mail.app is never going to be push, just IMAP which you can set to sync every minute, as it has always been. I asked him why they'd make everything else push, except mail on the mac, and he said he had no idea why they did it, but didn't think they'd be changing it. If it's checking every minute though, it doesn't really make a big difference.

Push for Calendar and Address book is coming, but it shouldn't be a big deal without it, for now. If you have it set to sync automatically, it will still sync to MobileMe, and then be pushed to your iPhone, within 20 minutes or so. You're not gonna be going long without it.

The only thing I can think of is for most people out there, the internet connection from your Mac is always on and is not like an iPhone, if that makes sense. So, syncing every minute would do in that case.

HOWEVER...

Apple clearly enforced the idea that push was available across the board. Make a change on your Mac, shows up instantly on iPhone/web. Never was it said we had to make changes to our sync settings. And if that is the case, why doesn't Apple and their egotistical selves come out and give us all a learning course on setting this crap up? It shouldn't be as hard as it is turning out to be. Absolute BS. This was half-assed and Apple is simply designing MobileMe as we go along. Piss poor effort and I'mnot sure I will re-up my subscription in a year.

Apple does seem to have a loose definition of what "Push" means and for the most part I can't see why it works how it does.

For example, if you change anything on me.com then your Mac will automatically sync this within about 30 seconds - that's pretty good IMO.

If you change anything on your Mac, then results will vary. It seems to only sync periodically.

That makes very little sense if you think about it. It should be easier to keep track of what is happening on the local system than it is to monitor the cloud for new changes. There would be no bandwidth hit in doing so.

Windows also seems to follow the same pattern, but in both directions - syncing at set intervals.

My concern is that I'll make a change on my MacBook, close it and then go to me.com or my PC and find they don't have whatever change I've made.

Try going into System Preferences and clicking on the .Mac icon and click on the tabs in there, this prompts a dialogue box to pop up with the information.

*goes to find the alert*

Here is the dialogue box that should pop up:

So basically for $99 .Me should solve all problems of our lives? I think this is too much to ask. Firstly, they never did anything for .mac. Then they kept their pricing for years. I am happy the way it is but I confess I have tied myself too much to the .mac email. So, I think about the regular ISP mail and I think: meh! .mac is much better, I wish I had an iPod Touch. (No fan of the Canadian Rogers iPhone) So I stay with .mac to be .me.

So I can't find a reason to really complain today. I think all problems will be solved soon and if they don't, I will not notice. I can't complain because I know that in the long road I'd eat crow.

Working Working... WAM no contacts on Iphone and .me

Nice huh? Good thing i had my contacts backed up in windows mobile LOL
Think i'll let it settle in a bit longer.

I don't think Push from Macs/PCs to the Cloud is coming any time soon:

Symptoms
With MobileMe Push, you can choose how often your computer syncs your contacts, calendars, and other sync data via MobileMe. If you select "Automatically", changes made on your computer may not immediately sync to MobileMe.

Products Affected
MobileMe
Resolution
Mac OS X

Selecting Automatic in Mac OS X allows your computer to immediately sync and update when there are any changes on the MobileMe servers. Those changes can come from your iPhone, iPod touch, the MobileMe website, or another computer. Changes made on your computer will be synced to the MobileMe "cloud" once every 15 minutes (or every hour in Mac OS X 10.4.11).

Microsoft Windows

Selecting Automatically in the MobileMe Control Panel syncs your computer with MobileMe every 15 minutes.

Glad to see Me.com working now

I just decided not to renew my .mac and decided to make a new @me email address which is just my full name @me.com which I like

No doubt MobileMe (and .Mac for that matter) have been worthwhile for specific needs but there are a ton of people who have/will be signing up for MobileMe because Apple is making a major advertisement "push" and saying it will work in a given way. I don't think it should solve all problems but I think it should do what they said it would do.

You are right, though, they never did anything with .Mac, and I am surprised more people haven't come out and voiced that opinion. In my mind, it is false advertising, using Microsoft Exchange as a basis for that. It is nowhere near what Exchange is and does.

wow. that's ridiculous.

they made it sound like push will work in all situations. cloud <-> iphone, touch, mac. but in reality push only works cloud <-> iphone, touch, and cloud -> mac. mac -> cloud is only sync, no push.

very upsetting. false advertisement!!

thanks that worked for me. Software Update wasnt showing anything until i clicked "learn more" in .Mac preferences.

I've looked at software update a half dozen times since the supposed Thursday launch of Moblieme and I still haven't gotten a software update. I've messed with the systems preferences and clicked the tabs to no avail. I've signed in (when apple let me) and out of .mac with no change except now it won't recognize any sync under .mac. Doesn't say anything about .me.

I have gotten into mobileme from .mac but nothing really works because I don't have the software updates.

Now these aren't crucial issues for me. Mac is just my home computer. But I have to say I'm pretty disappointed in Apple as a corporation. They act as if everything is going fine and there are just some bugs to work out. When Gates retired, did he go to work for Apple?

Big Black Eye for Apple. I'm delaying my upgrade of my Mac. I don't think they can be trusted.

Still no push on my Macbook. Although the above posts could explain why. I expect push on my Macbook very very soon though. I'll allow them a little time to finish fixing things up.

MobileMe isn't working too well for me. Switching between mail and calendar or contacts, etc. won't load.

Honestly, I don't think Apple should have allowed a free trial during this transition period. First, I think the large number of people signing up for the free trial was a major cause of it not working as smoothing as hoped. And it created problems and frustration for PAYING customers. Second, the free trial is for people interested in buying MobileMe. There are probably many that couldn't connect and only encountered problems and have already decided that MobileMe isn't worth the headache and won't buy. Only after the transition and after Apple got everything running smoothly should they have allowed the free trial.

Why do some people get this update while others don't?
Why is Apple messing with people like this?

MobileMe.com is back up

For now....
@Mossdaddy:
I had trouble finding that update as well. When I went into SYSTEM PREFERENCES>MAC, I went through each of the 4 tabs, then when I was getting out of it, the update popped up. This didn't work for you?

Not any of the 5 or 6 times I tried it after I read the "Tip".
