They didn't even mention anything about OS4 for iPad. So i guess we are not seeing OS4 for iPad on Sept 1st. Waiting game is still on...
Truth is, no one knows what is going on on Wednesday.

Pretty sure Apple makes both products...Wouldn't such a move seriously eat into Apple's profits? The iPhone is their top money maker, and you're going to see a lot less of them sold if you can get cheap monthly rates for a 3G iPod touch.

I bet Steve knows
i don't think Apple would shrink the iPod nano and give it a square screen. Too awkwardly small. I think the nano could get a touch screen and lose its separate click wheel. The click wheel would be superimposed on the touch screen only when needed.
But a square form factor could be just the ticket for a watch-like device. No idea if this has been discussed before, but if so, I apologize. It would run iPod OS with a new "Time" app running in watch mode. And, if it's cheap enough, it could act as a really cool remote for the next-gen Apple TV...
what if the iPod touch gets renamed and removed from the ipod line? After all its more in line with the ipad/iphone family then a music player?
Apple wouldn't release a 3G ipod touch, They make to much off the iPhone to do that.
Yeah I am going to have to say the 3G thing is bogus. It works for an iPad because it's not a phone replacement, but the iPod touch could easily be used for that.
Obviously there will be a ton of products which will all run iOS in all shapes sizes and configurations. It won't really matter what they label them.
Apple fans will buy them.
What happens when the iPad gets FaceTime?
You ever tried to use FaceTime for a voice-only conversation? Or with multiple people (three-way calling)? It does not do either of those well, and that is why it is perfectly acceptable for the iPad and the iPod to do it. Plus it doesn't work over 3G yet anyway, so it is not a big deal.
What Apple does not want is people buying an iPod touch with 3G capability and using the 3G data to make and receive VoIP calls using Skype and the like. Even with the ridiculous data fees, it is too close to an iPhone at that point considering the iPhone is $300 more (without contract).
What I could see happening in the future is the contract-free iPhone pricing going down. It will eventually get to the point where they could effectively discontinue the iPod touch and just sell iPhones at a cheap no-contract "unlocked" pricing.
They won't add 3G to an iPod touch, that will only hurt iPhone sales.
Like it does right now?
Exactly, why make it worse? They want to get more iPhone users, not less. From what has happened in international markets the thing that helped the most was adding more carriers. Their focus should be on that, not adding 3G to the iPod.
There has been a 3g iPod touch since 2008.... And I already didn't get the point of having both an iPod Touch AND a phone, now people are supposed to do that with 3g capabilities? I guess people can waist money nowadays... IT'S CALLED AN IPHONE IDIOTS!!!!
