If the pictures are true... this is what we got

stacy.gif

And the chattel of Apple will eat it up.

Hehe, I made that reference a few pages back. Its so true to this scenario that its scary.

Is it me? Or is there an extra application there?

Yeah, its the Voice Memos app included in 3.0

Only if a few rumors prove to be true.

Doesn't matter if these pics are fake or not. We all know most people in here will be either buying/upgrading the new iphone no matter what it is.

I may be tempted but an upgrade isn't a given. It depends on a few things not the least of which is how well 3.0 works on my 3G.

The things that might lead me to the expense of an early upgrade include the following:

1.
A much faster processor. This to address the lagginess in the device especially when multi tasking.
2.
An alternative to the above would be dual processors. Such might lead to even better performance at very low power usage.
3.
More RAM
4.
Along with the above should be background user processes.
5.
Massively extended battery life. OLED could help out here a bit, but you also need an improved battery and lower power electronics.
6.
A greatly improved camera might tip the scales a bit but honestly it isn't just the camera that needs improvement as the camera app is wanting. Camera app needs manual exposure controls.
7.
Faster 3G speeds. This would be good on one hand and bad on another. The bad being drained batteries.

More than anything else I want the combo of items above that lead to smoother operation of the iPhone. The lag can be frustrating at times.

Why not??

If that is the new iphone I hope the earpiece isn't up that high on the phone..

For people with big heads or noisy work environments it would be ideal. It puts the mic that much closer to your mouth. That for people that actually hold the iPhone up to their head for conversations.

I can't see a negative at all here. More so I see it giving Apple more options.

I have a question. I have the iPhone 3g currently and if this new iPhone is worth the upgrade, I would want to sell my iPhone 3g on eBay. However, how would I go about doing this? Would I have to end my contract with AT&T and then be able to sell it to a buyer? I just want it so it is not on my contract/plan. Thanks :)

Ditto. It is a shame that the aluminum housing interferes with the radio frequencies of the device, as the aluminum housing had the best aesthetics. Oh well.

Exactly. I also think it had a slightly better build quality. I still love my 3g iPhone it's just the original just feels that little bit better built... ;)

It's about form and function.

um wtf...the design is going downhill with each iteration..
metal backing scrapped for plastic...then now shiny plastic scrapped for cheaper looking matte and the chrome trim is removed.....
i hope this is all fake

The removal of the metal back has more to do with radio performance than anything. Apple would do well to focus on performance rather than the base desires of a few customers to touch metal. Besides the RF issue a plastic shell is much easier to handle in weather extremes. A textured shell just makes the case even easier to handle.

As to chrome that is for pimp mobiles. I'm sorry but it is not the sort of flash I want to be associated with.

Speaking of Flash has anybody heard if it is finally coming to iPhone with the new hardware. With the rumored faster processor and more RAM it might be feasable. Note I'm not a big flash fan but it would make the use of some business to business sites on iPhone possible.

I really doubt a forward facing camera and the reason is that I would think that iPhone 3.0 software would have an API for developers to incorporate the forward facing camera in their Apps. Unless Apple is adding it for the purpose of people taking self portraits which seems silly. I also don't see any app that would allow video chat in the stock 3.0 software which would require a developer API to make it useful.

i used to like the idea of a black trim on the iphone, but the more pictures i see, the worse it looks.
take a look at the mockup with the leaked bezel that was posted a few days ago compared to the original photo.. its nowhere near as nice.

If they use black anodized aluminium like on the black iPods, they may have something there. If not, it's just matte black paint, in which case it'll be the iPhone for goth kids. Not the most lucrative target demographic, perhaps.

I wish iPhone has a flash.

I heard a piece of rumors saying that iPhone will have an illuminating Apple logo in the back. I hope it is being used as flash for camera.

It is all in your imagination!

The fact that Apple can't manufacture anything where the chrome looks OK after more than 2 days of use shouldn't be held against chrome.
It is a handheld device it gets scratched up from normal use.
They could replace it with a brushed aluminium trim if the chrome is that much of a problem... as long as there's some sort of metal trim, it'll look fine.
Not really, especially on a device designed to deliver movies and videos. A flashy metal ring is a big distraction and acts to reduce percieved contrast. Wrapping a video screen in a reflective metal trim has been known to be a no no for decades now. Just take a look at any of the quality TV sets available these days.
But this whole monochrome deal looks like poo. It looks like some sort of dummy iPhone you buy as a toy for your kids.
Obviously you don't have the maturity to look at the technical reasons for the approach taken in these renderings. Instead you see the iPhone as bling, something to flash around and make yourself feel good with.

Sorry but that is not the way most of us go about trying to feel good about ourselves. For one thing many people find it offensive and it can also be insulting. Enjoy your iPhone, just don't use it to belittle others.

It's one step closer to the cheapo look of Palm Pre, at a time when iPhone needs it the least.
If you thinkbl chrome is the only measure of quality then why don't you go out and buy a Chevy! Seriously that was a destraction that was used by Detroit to mask the poor quality of their cars. Like wise other industries have fallen into the same game of masking the lack of quality with chrome. Trying to associate chrome with quality says a lot about you alas a person, something you need to think about.
Sounds plausible -- I think I had disagreements with everyone in the laptop hunters threads. ;)

Well I'm not party to those threads but if you have expressed the same mentality there that you have expressed here I can imagine people being very displeased with your existance. Your twisted view on what constitutes quality is sad to say the very least. Very few people would be with you on the thought that chrome represents quality, it is a surface finish nothing more. In the case of a video IPhone a surface finish that detracts from a key usage pattern

It is in the eye of the beholder.

Take a second look! Notice the vastly reduced specular reflections? That might not look like much in a photo like this but imagine a real device that you want to use in strong lighting. The vastly reduced reflections would lead to much more comfortable and longer viewing sessions.

If there is anything that Apple has done to improve viewing of the screen on the new iPhone that is more important than this I don't know what it is. In practice I think people will find a dramatic difference in viewability of the screen. It is a major quality improvement.

Dave

Anyone think that the front facing camera won't be for video chatting but merely as a camera? It would makes sense since most flip phones with camera's can close and show you the camera preview on the front screen so you can take a picture of yourself. (my phone that was three years old could do that). So maybe apple just implemented a camera on the front but not for video chatting, although I would love to see video chatting!

After seeing the leaked photos of the bezel, I can see why they *might* have needed to move the speeker up..
