Rocking Panny 60" and 50" plasmas side by side (sports watching) from 2010/2011

Beautiful hardware that still looks sensational

I won't replace them until forced
There are some things that don't need to be upgraded especially if it still works.
Relatives got a new large OLED TV and gave me their still working Samsung plasma TV >50".
It's a wonderful TV which works with a Roku stick for alternative TV viewing. :)
Don't care about upgrading to LCD or OLED since the plasma TV still works!

I need folks to continue to upgrade every year this is hurting my appl stock 🤬🤬. Who cares if the changes are minimum.

I upgraded from an XS, and even I felt kinda guilty upgrading - the XS was still a solid phone.

If I had a 12 Pro or higher, I definitely wouldn’t have upgraded. A 4 year upgrade window probably makes the most sense these days.

Now, if I had an Xr or an 11, then I can understand upgrading more frequently.
I am in an environment where iPhone XRs are heavily used and I honestly can't see any reason to upgrade. They are just as fast as the day they came out of the box. Seriously, Apple is kinda in a corner, but I am sure there are still many on older iPhone 7s and 6 series. Some of us are in denial that we really don't need to upgrade our phones as often as we use to. The same reality of the PC desktop and Laptop has hit the smartphone market just at a much faster pace. Apple see's but they are not gonna back down.

Apple just needs to go hard on Siri and Maps.

Try eBay? Some people get a new iphone by contract and sell it immediately, cause their old iPhone may be good enough.
Won't that phone be locked to the specific carrier and be black listed?

Weird how the report includes the 14 Plus which isn't even available yet but probably based on projections on the regular 14 sales?

Apple should streamline the models, as noted in another MR discussion article about next year's iPhone 15 models.

Make all models 'Pro' and streamline it including holding down the price if not reducing it somewhat like $100 or so, something like...
15 Mini
- If battery size is increased for longer life, may as well buy the regular sized version
15 [6.1"]
15 Max [6.7"]
15 Ultra [Premium] [7"]

But Apple won't as it needs to continually release newer models, even with incremental updates, since it needs to make $$$ for itself and its shareholders.

Their decoy iPhone strategy worked. Sadly, I think Apple will double down on this and split the base and Pro iPhones even further. Which sucks because they will release garbage regular iPhones now.

They did the decoy strategy with their Macbooks recently.

Probably right..

Will turn into

iPhone SE … parts bin phone
iPhone Regular … about what SE used to be
iPhone Pro … where all the new and good stuff is, all with the most “pro” pricing ever (super expensive)

The fact the iPhone 14 has the same chip as the 13 yet doesn't have a SIM slot most likely makes it look a like downgrade to some people. And, in fact, for many it certainly is a downgrade if you need to swap physical SIMs.

So, practically, the iPhone 14 doesn't really offer any noteable improvements over the 13, yet a disadvantage, that for some might be irrelevant for others a show-stopper (eSIM only).

The emergency satellite communication function is mostly a gimmick... barely worth it for 99,9% of the customers... so, those 0,1% isn't really making the sales figures go up... and even that audience is still holding back waiting for reviews if that feature is actually working reliably.

If Apple at least included USB-C there would have been at least on "visible" reason to upgrade... but this way there literally is non.

Definitely not saying that. I'm sure it was on purpose to get people to Pro models. Just saying the 3 week delay alone killed any momentum that could be picked up for it.
They killed it on purpose. It’s not the first time they do it. I believe they did the same with the iPhone X and 8. They didn’t want people buying the 8 so they launched it like a month later.

Horribly priced devices that's your problem. Greed got you finally.

The 13 should be 500 not 600
The 14 should be 700 not 800

For 200 more most people will pony up the coin for the Pro model with more features. Time to hire a new strategy team Apple.

Anyone looked at the share price, it's doing it's boing thing again, on the way down, then bottoms out and goes up 20%+ all due to these sales numbers rumours. Lots of people making lots of money !!

That's how it was a long time ago. But it still may be that way for some carriers. For most carriers it shouldn‘t be a problem. Some resellers like rebuy start to offer it also.

Apple should stop fooling people. Apple wins the gold medal when it comes to charging a high price and deliver only minimal changes. Apple could have delivered USB-C or Dynamic Island at nearly no cost. Cutting OLED panels is standard for Samsung, LG, younameit. All Android phones have it.

Also USB-C, all iPads have it, all Android phones have it. Apple thinks, it can sell it to you next year as an invention …
I'd love to know how many things they have in their pocket to release each year as the "new" feature

If Apple included dynamic island in 14 as well, sales would have been much higher.

What I find most astonishing is the lack of any periscope camera or enhanced zoom ability. As someone who takes more pictures of scenery than photos of people and who doesn't use social media, the iPhone camera is kind of weak. Waiting an entire year for a camera that may have optical zoom is weak when Samsung is going on 4 years of enhanced zoom. And before calling it a "gimmick", for some people optical zoom is a true feature. Try to take a picture of the moon with an iPhone. At this point, the strategy is obvious: drip out minor upgrades every year rather than giving the market true features during one upgrade cycle.
