I've had sudden drops in data in an 11 Pro since iOS 14. When I'm at full signal strength, and within a few hundred yards of the tower... airplane mode on and off, and I'm flying again.

Since Apple launched the iPhone 12 in October, an increasing number of users of the new smartphone have been reporting persistent drops in cellular coverage.

Multiple reports of dropped 5G and LTE connectivity have appeared on Reddit, on Apple's support forums, and on the MacRumors forums, with many people suffering issues when walking or in transit and some seeing the same problem when stationary.

Several users report suddenly losing all reception bars and seeing a "no service" message on their iPhone 12, despite being in an area of network coverage and seeing no connectivity issues on other devices, and iOS version doesn't seem to be a factor.

Several users have been in touch with Apple technical support or their operator, and there's some suggestion that the issue may be related to how the iPhone 12 switches between cellular towers. Affected iPhones reportedly pass all of Apple's diagnostic tests, while toggling Airplane mode on and off seems to correct the lost signal reception for some, but not all users.

iPhone 12 users in various countries have relayed their experience with the problem, and it doesn't appear to be related to any one network carrier, with reports from users across Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. Verizon is said to be aware of the issue.

My wife and I both have been having this issue in places that our iPhone XS and iPhone 8 never had issues. I’ve had to do hard resets to get service back at times as well, airplane mode toggle hasn’t worked every time for me.

Can’t wait for next year’s model the iPhone 12S when they iron out the bugs.

The Article also mentions LTE, so it’s not just a 5G issue. The root cause is apple; it’s ever lasting greed for profits are making their own products rubbish.
The profit motive was the incentive to develop and produce the iPhone. Free market competition by other producers with competing technologies is what keeps prices and profits in check, not Marxist accusations of unbridled avarice. Besides, is it not your own personal greed that motivates you to insist on perfect, profit free products for next to nothing while at the same time insisting that you be paid high wages or receive government distributed benefits and regulation so you can consume even more?

My 12 Pro Max completely stopped utilizing any type of data connection, Wi-Fi or LTE, even after factory reset. It would show connectivity to both but all data-related services permanently stopped responding.

Bought a OnePlus 8 Pro for half the price and will return the 12.

It has happened to me several times, including when my wife is sitting right next to me in the car with the same service (Verizon) and her iPhone 11. I restart the phone and sometimes that fixes it. Will try going into Airplane mode. Very frustrating. I think it's true that it happens when switching cell towers.

Apple sure has been screwing up a lot since Tim Cook became CEO.
Steve Jobs use to fire people at Apple that screwed up. sometimes WHOLE departments.
He wanted Perfection all the time.
Not the case with Tim Cook.
Apple needs a New CEO with NEW DIRECTION.
Works fine for me.

I havent lost service like mentioned but I have noticed how service is SO much more terrible than my S20 Ultra I upgraded from. I have a cellspot from Tmobile at my house and in the front yard my old S20 and 11 Pro Max would be at full bars my 12 only has 2-3. Yesterday I was at the store which is about 2 miles from a 5G tower, my S20 Ultra would always have full signal, well my 12 only had 2. So something is definitely going on.

I expected this for such a huge technical upgrade. Then again, the iPhone X was a huge change, but it went smoothly. It’s just 5G has been such ‘meh’. Apple could have pushed out 5G support to 2022 honestly. The network just seems to be experimental. But I understand they were peer pressured by the carriers and every other smartphone vendor. I’m in a waiting room right now and I’m using the free WiFi.

Working from home, guess what, free WiFi since it’s included with my rent. Even in the office I rarely used up my data since I was only allowed to use my phone for an hour throughout the work day.

The iPhone 12 is a beautiful device, but I’m gonna hang onto my X for as long as possible. Apple already got into my pocket this year with the M1 MBP.

I haven't really noticed this, especially when I don't go out much nowadays, so I'm constantly connected to my home wifi. But I'll have to keep an eye out when I am out. But I'm sure I would have noticed this before.

I have this issue every day when I get to work. My phone has coverage while I'm driving to work. I put my 12 Pro in pocket, walk in, and when I get to my desk "no service".

I toggle the airplane mode and it comes right back on, and works for the rest of the day....

I’ve had this happen to me since day one just never took the time to complain about it. Doesn’t happen often but enough to make me think its a bug that needs to be sorted out.

Steady 2 bars of 4 inside with LTE. Instantly pops to 3 bars of 5G when I step outside. No issues here. (Spectrum/Verizon California)

Happened to me yesterday, 12 Pro on Verizon. First time, and now I'm seeing this thread. Glad I'm not crazy! 😂

I wasn't sure if it was just where I am, but yes, iPhone 12 Pro Verizon user here having random data coverage drops

My problem was using a VPN with a T Mobile Iphone 12. Would not receive any data when out and about. None of my apps worked. Went to Starbucks and had to sign in to their WiFi while I was in the Drive thru lane in order to get the app to work. Apple Senior tech was finally able to figure out the problem was my ExpressVPN. Deleted the app and then everything worked fine.

On my 12 i tend to get far worse service than my last couple of phones. it reads 5G on my phone, but pages load like molasses. I have shrugged it off as growing pains with 5G by both Apple and Verizon.
Growing pains for a premium phone?😳

I have seen this on iPhone 8+, 7+, 6s+, etc on ATT and now Verizon. Not 5G but LTE. I assume it’s and iPhone thing or just a phone thing.

Same experience on the Sprint/T-mobile network. 3 new 12's, mini, Pro, and Pro Max. I had to keep my old iPhone 7 so I could downgrade to a reliable connection in the house. My original SE, I6, and I7 worked perfectly. Very disappointed that this type of issue wasn't worked out before release ..... after all, these are PRIMARILY phones!

5G, LTE and calls have been working fine for me with my 12 Pro Max here in Southern California on Verizon. Even on the 14.3 public beta 3.
