The issue is that they are trying to make a foldable screen rather than a foldable phone. A phone with two screens would still improve multitasking and allow unique UI exploits.

Samsung Knox is a joke and has been found to have multiple vulnerabilities.

iOS absolutely dominates Android (and Knox) in Enterprise/corporate use.

Oh, and FYI, iCloud was never hacked. Try harder.

Samsung Knox isn’t the only thing that’s a joke in this thread.

Fold in the wild (ugly as hell imho)

Eww that does not look good at all.

The cognitive dissonance of Apple. Security is really, really important. You must use FaceID, fingerprints aren't secure enough. Also, security isn't that important. Unencrypted iCloud storage is good enough.
I know right. The cognitive dissonance of Samsung as well. You are conflating issues. The military will not use Samsung cloud either in fact the Army is divesting of Android. So say what you will.

You would have to be pretty crazy to spend 2 grand to beta test this product. It’s just not ready for prime time. It’s a good idea but we didn’t have to wait for this to happen for us to know that these weren’t going to be replacing the XS and S10 anytime soon.

In addition this is going to depreciate very fast. Perhaps not as bad as the gold Apple Watch Edition but bad nonetheless.

If you have 2 grand to spend, go and buy yourself an OLED TV. You’ll have a great product that will last you a while. LGs now have HDMI 2.1 as well.

It's a beta product. What do you expect?

It’s not a “beta” product. Samsung is taking preorders and units are supposed to ship before the end of this month.

Unless of course Samsung managed to take Apple’s public beta to a new level and figured out they can get customers to pay nearly $2k to be beta testers.

You really think that there’s no use case for a phone that unfolds into a tablet, even in the future when the folding technology gets better?
I think it’s a pretty cool idea, and agree that the fold belongs on the outside where the bend has a larger radius. I’m not about to go rushing out to get one but would like to see the idea work out.

This smells of a cancelled product. Or at least back to the drawing board. Even in best case scenario, a fold will have durability issues.

that's what happens when you rush a product to the market!!! apple will take its time probably in 5 years we will see it on the iPhone but at least it will work and not break after regular use

you guys bitch about Apple????
Some of us bitch about everyone (when deserved).

This was expected. Too bad this product will remain proof of concept and foldable designs will not truly hit mainstream.

But wake me up when Apple's "improved" version is here...haha
Get ready for a long sleep.:D

Curious. Why are you contemplating getting an XS/XS Max? I had the Xs Max and switched to the Xr because of the battery life. The battery lasts way longer for me on the Xr than it did with the Max, but I kind of miss the premium feel of the Xs. Ive also been dealing with slight bugs on the Xr.
The battery life is great on the Xr but I'm also never far away from being able to charge. I'm really interested in the double camera for the optical zoom (and the OLED screen with higher resolution would be a bonus). The Max would be great for its screen size because I recently sold my iPad Pro (used money to partially cover laptop purchase) so I'm left using my phone when giving speeches and lectures (most lectures I can use my laptop). The Xr is a great phone but the extra size of the Max would help in my case.

A gimmick feature done wrong. I eagerly await Apples attempt to get this gimmicky feature right.

Samsung this week provided reviewers with Galaxy Fold devices for some hands-on time, and it appears the folding smartphone may be suffering from some serious flaws. Three of the reviewers who received a Galaxy Fold have already experienced failures, all of which focus on the display.

The Verge's Dieter Bohn says that his Galaxy Fold device broke after a random bulge appeared on the display, perhaps from a piece of debris that had gotten into the hinge. The debris, or whatever the bulge was, pressed into the display hard enough to break it.

Bohn says that he did not mistreat the phone, doing "normal phone stuff" like putting it in a pocket and opening and closing the hinge.Similarly, CNBC's Steve Kovach shared a video of his review unit displaying a flickering, failing screen after just a single day of use.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman also ran into a catastrophic display failure. His Galaxy Fold is broken and unusable, appearing to feature some of the same screen failures as Kovach's unit.

In Gurman's case, he says that there was a protective layer on the screen that is not supposed to be removed, but this was not communicated to him. He took it off, which may have contributed to the problem. Well-known YouTuber Marques Brownlee says that he did the same thing because there was no warning in the box.

Not all of the reviewers with broken units removed the plastic film, however, so there are clearly multiple issues impacting the Galaxy Fold. Three broken review units that failed within a day or two does not bode well for the device at all. It's not known if reviewers received a bad batch of the device or if units going out to customers will experience the same issues, but anyone considering a purchase should be aware of these failures.

Samsung's Galaxy Fold costs a whopping $1,980, which is a sensationally high price even for a device that works. Right now, Samsung is accepting pre-orders for the Galaxy Fold on carrier sites, and the first retail units are expected to be available to customers on April 26.

A piece of dust crippled my MacBook Pro keyboard. Apple can relate to this.

Really glad to see actual innovation, even if it’s disappointingly not ready. Keep aiming for the stars!
lol its not ready its a failure no innvoation. if apple did the same thing people will go mad it will be everywheere, on the news, youtube, twiter, facebook, all most every social platform.

Kenny Rogers said it best:
You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
