Wireless headphones and smart watches were both categories before apple launched either the Apple Watch or airpods. But let’s be honest apple came in and redefined both categories and thats what innovation is.

Your thinking about invention, it’s not the same as innovation. Common misconception.

There still aren’t any wireless headphones that work as well as the AirPods. And the Apple Watch, don’t think there are any competitors that allow to you leave your phone at home and continue to make and receive calls, messages, and stream music from their smart watch, when paired with airpods. That’s innovation.

Apples 3d Face ID system can’t be compared to a single camera, that’s not very accurate.

You do realize taking what someone else started with and making it better isn’t as easy as you make it out to be. Google buying Motorola is one example.

You can’t give Samsung a handicap for releasing a prototype device as a Flagship.
It will damage the brand. Not for fans that appreciate Samsung failed attempt, but by affluent consumers who actually end up buying the device and then swear off Samsung and the galaxy line of phones because of it.

Apple and Huawei might gain more than a few customers because of it.

"Your thinking about invention, it’s not the same as innovation. Common misconception."

Fair. Apple doesn't invent anything new. Better?

"Apples 3d Face ID system can’t be compared to a single camera, that’s not very accurate."

3D is more secure but they mostly do work the same in most cases.

"You do realize taking what someone else started with and making it better isn’t as easy as you make it out to be."

I never said it was easy.

"There still aren’t any wireless headphones that work as well as the AirPods."

There most certainly are even better ones depending on your criteria sound being one and if you are not in the Apple/iphone ecosystem.

Ya I'm not sure it was really released as a flagship. You literally quoted me saying it wasn't ready to be released but I give them props for trying. But agree wasn't the best business move.

Our OP needs to update this article.

LOTS of hearsay and FALSE information ...

FACTS:

Samsung has responded to reviews and reports published yesterday that the much-hyped folding screen on the tech giant’s new Galaxy Fold was breaking, Engadget reports.

“A limited number of early Galaxy Fold samples were provided to media for review,” Samsung said in a statement. “We have received a few reports regarding the main display on the samples provided. We will thoroughly inspect these units in person to determine the cause of the matter.”

... while Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee reported busted screens after mistakenly removing a layer from their phones, thinking it was a standard screen protector found on new devices.
AT LEAST MKBHD actually admitted to his goof up ... Mark ... hides behind Bloomberg like a fish!

PSA: There's a layer that appears to be a screen protector on the Galaxy Fold's display. It's NOT a screen protector. Do NOT remove it. I got this far peeling it off before the display spazzed and blacked out. Started over with a replacement.

Apple Watch and iPad come to mind. You could argue iPhone. Best is obviously subjective, but you could make a reasonable argument for all of them, none of which were the first to market.
And none of them were best first gen were they. Again you can argue that but how many flaws were overlooked because it was the first of its kind?
Best is a horrible word to use .

No, he assumed it was like the plastic wrap that comes on EVERY phone. Every iPhone I’ve ever bought has a plastic wrap around it that you are supposed to peel off.

No he didn't ... oh that's the excuse he made ... yet after unboxing thousands of phones he should've figured out when you remove the seal plastic, THAT'S IT ... there isn't another beneath on the screen. Again it was a newbie move he should NOT have made ... Grumman ... inexcusable.

EDIT: in fact look at MKBHD's updated unboxing for the replacement Galaxy Fold, notice he removed the seal and did not try again.

Too often the internet jumps on assumptions and runs with it on any medium. As if this was "Synapse which would fully unite us" lol.

Errr. Do the plastic wraps not usually come with an easily identifiable tab that shouts, "pull here"?

Do you have a vested interest in Samsung's reputation?

From the Verge:

Every phone with movable parts is going to have more points of failure than a fully sealed, static phone. So it’s natural to say that you need to treat it with more care than usual. Before I saw this bulge, my impression was that this phone was much more durable than I expected. The hinge always felt solid and well-built. That impression of (relative) durability is obviously as broken as the flexing screen now.

If I’m right and it’s debris, it means that not only do you need to treat your phone with care, but you also have to worry about stuff getting in underneath the screen. If I’m wrong and it’s some kind of defect in the hardware, well... then we’re in entirely different territory. Either way: yikes.

Samsung's folding screen is only useful until it breaks. If it's likely to break in normal use, then it is not useful.

Errr. Hate to break (;)) it to you .that goes for every screen .
Also .What is normal use? Most people don't prop their phones up for a photoshoot.
Lets see what the feedback is shall we?

But you would expect premium quality for a $2000 phone. This story can’t possibly be correct. Can it?!?

My $1200 "Premium" Tablet has multiple bright spots, and the screen becomes unresponsive if tilted at a certain angle.
So yes, the story is probably correct.

Actually yes, you could probably argue that they were were all best as a first gen product. They may have lacked some features when introduced, but they didn't have major issue like the Galaxy Fold. I expected the Fold to be junk, but not this bad.

Sorry, you’re way late to the party with this one.

Apple is in fact responsible for a lot of inventions and industry standards, not really the thread to go into it though. You were referencing innovations, and apple is an innovator.

Regarding the fold, no you never claimed it to be a flagship and I never claimed that you did.
The galaxy fold is the new flagship this year. Flagship devices usually aren’t mass produced, exceptions do happen.

No I’m afraid in my testing the w1 chip is far superior to anything on the market, relating wireless headphones remaining paired to each other, exceptional Bluetooth and microphone clarity.

Screen folding and flexing is the most useless tech ever made by human

Concave TV? Meeeh.. immersive my @**.. it makes me puking instead
Curve edged display? Add unnecessary distortion, and useless implementation

The only thing useful for folding the display is like the iPhone X where you can fold the edge and hiding it so you can have the thinnest bezel possible.

So that you can then have a digital bezel

You just had to add that in there, eh? Could you imagine if the car industry came out with a totally different car, with different controls, every single year? You'd have to re-learn how to drive every time you bought a new car. No... sometimes when a product design arrives at near perfection, it's not consumer-friendly to change it for change sake. Meet iPhone. Now go enjoy the great tech you have in your pocket. :)

Poor analogy.

  1. I don't buy a new car every year or two.
  2. Controls aren't features. However features probably add controls.
  3. He is talking about performance spec bumps. Using your car analogy, the same car model from a different year could have a totally different engine which increases performance. The same car might also have a better display for its sound system, etc. Apple has nothing new or innovative to offer.

(Samsung has both with this phone, however I would never have use for such a stupid device [some people might]. Samsung butchered this, though the users peeling off the protective layer from the screen are dumb.)

Edit:

I do like the idea of rollable screens, it would bring this scene from Babylon A.D. come to life:

And I agree. But If you’re going to use a tag line like “unfolding the future”, have the quality to back it up.

Yes you can only “unfold the future” once, just like with the galaxy fold, your not suppose to keep “unfolding the future” or you will break it. Everyone knows that.

So it's not due to the removal of the film. Two of the units that broke had the film intact. Plus, one of the reviewer already had her film peeling on her test unit, meaning that through time, there will be people who peel it off since it's already peeling off by itself through wear and tear. Not good.

Oh and another thing, because the screen has to be foldable, it's not made from glass. It's plastic. We are already accustomed to, and expect, gorilla glass protected screen on our phones. Let's see how long this $2000 phone last at the hand of consumers.
