HD video and camera? I could care less about since I really don't take much photos with a phone camera.

Thats nice. But there are a lot who do care and do want it, other wise it would have never been added.

If I do, it will be a quick photo, which doesn't need the huge megapixel count anyway (megapixel does not equal quality).

Last I checked it does.

Much of my pictures and night pictures come from my Nikon, which then is edited to fit the iPhone screen.

Why do that? The iPhone can handle any size of photos. There is a reason for the pinch and zoom,

However, the iPhone 4 design aspect is really nice, but that's just for eye candy

Whats so "eye candy" about the design? I guess I can say the same for the 3Gs?

yro? The food? Just kidding. Well, I do play games on my iPhone, but not enough to warrant the new accelerometer use.

Well if you pay games, then this will open even more games for you to play

Dual mics. That's a biggie for me, but I'm young and texting is the way many, if not all, of my friends communicate, except for my lady contact.

How "young" are you? Perhaps your mad because your parrents wont get you one this time around?

New glass? Cool, dropped my 3GS a few times, no scratches. New glass seems like a great design and I am sure it will get better in iPhone 5

well of course it will. Or it will look just like the iPhone 4.

But, you best believe that I will be first in line for iPhone 5 or whatever they call it because my full upgrade will be ready by then. Given this year's specs, I will expect much better features next year along with a new OS.

First in line? Better get up extra early and be at every location. The OS will be the same, but perhaps bumped to iOS 5.0. There will not be a "new one"

Let the OP live in 2009, we'll live in 2010 with our shiny new iPhone 4! Woot!

I will be skipping the iPhone 4. I have a 3GS 32GB and it works just fine. I sort of wanted a 4G ( I know calling it this annoys some people but it is shorter to type) but I also want an iPad. I can afford to buy both if I want to and my 3GS is not under contract and is factory unlocked so that is no consideration. I just can't see putting over $1,500 to have both devices, which is part of the reason perhaps that I am able to be in the position to afford both in the first place.

For those questioning that figure iPad is $825 and the 4G is likely to be around $1,000 unlocked where I live. The 3GS I have was around $900.

My reasoning to skip the 4G is after I get my iPad 64 3G I don't see myself using an iPhone to consume content much. Many people who have bought an iPad have said their phone collects dust now. There are some useful things about the phone over the pad, as it is more portable. For example good for GPS on the go, surfing the net and checking email.

I don't think I need a faster chip or a retina screen to do these things. Will I really be blown away by the screen when I am opening maps? Will the processor amaze me when I send a text?

So the only use I will really have for an iPhone is when I am on the go for simple mundane tasks. I can't see watching movies on it if I have a device with a bigger screen.

Am I crazy or would people here rather have a 3GS 32GB and iPad 64 3G or just a 4G if given the choice? The thing is the 4G doesn't give that much new functionality as compared to the iPad when I look at it that way.

...and even though you pass off others' reasons for disagreeing with you as "juvenile" and "illogical," somebody MIGHT feel the same way about your decision to invest in a 1st generation iPad when the 2nd generation iPad will likely yield improvements.

It just goes to show you that, even though you seem to feel it acceptable to denigrate others' opinions, your own might seem "juvenile" and "illogical" to some.

As for me, I can respect your opinion...I would never denigrate your rational decision to make purchases as you choose...Why can't you do the same for others? You seem very intent on characterizing your opinion as THE ONLY rational decision one can make if similarly situated as you...Or are you just looking for validation?

Well said! On all counts!

My wife still has the 3G. She skipped the 3GS upgrade but said she wants the version 4 now. It will be a marked improvement over her older phone.

I'm in the same position, tuner. I believe many of us are.

The iPhone 4 promises to be (at least) a decent leap forward.

Thats just it. A "decent" leap forward. Its not as huge in my opinion as Steve said.

If he really wanted it to be a "huge leap" forward he would have gotten it on the "Big 4", have a 3.5" model as well as a 4" model and perhaps have it "4G ready"

But thats just my opinion. Take it or leave it.

I'll leave it. :)

..but I do respect it nonetheless...unlike so many on here.

How young am I? And parents? Your points were invalid just by that assumption. Good job. And I assume you didn't read my last posts about my mistake and I apologize to everyone who wasted their time on this thread? Take some time to read my past posts, that should have saved you more time rather than posting something useless. I am entitled to my own opinion. Maybe you're the kid who can't afford it, ChrisGonzales90

Truth hurts? Guess you are a minor.

I have plenty of money (my own, hard working mind you. Not the grandma or mom and dad type) so if I wanted I could buy it. Besides the number in my name might tell you how old I am, and no I'm not that old.

I'll leave it.

If you respect it when why the need to roll the eyes?

You'll notice I changed it to a smiling face. In reviewing the post, I realized that the "roll eyes" really came across too sarcastic. My apologies.

If I had a 3GS I'd probably agree with OP. But with my 3G iPhone and IOS4 coming with no multitasking for 3G I definitely need to upgrade. I'm also raving about 720p video and the camera for when I don't want to lug around my Canon DSLR

For me, the forward-facing camera is a MAJOR improvement, helping me with my narcissistic tendencies. :D

I'll be able to finally take my bodybuilding pictures without looking into a mirror. :)

Truth hurts? Guess you are a minor.

Please stop pouring gas on the fire. For those of you who want to act like 12-year-olds hitting puberty: please do it elsewhere.

As I said earlier:

Of course, if someone wants to rush out and buy the iPhone 4, go for it. It's looks like a great phone. However, please stop bashing those of us who don't; it just makes you look like a tool.

I agree with OP. I'm holding out for iPhone V.

I really like iPhone 4 but I'm not upgrade eligible yet (if I was I'd be all over iPhone 4).

iPhone 4 is awesome, no doubt, and I'm sure you will all enjoy yours, but being 19 I can't justify $600 off contract when my 3Gs doesn't turn 1 year old until 6/30/2010

Excellent arguments indeed. There will be some time down the road, where you find yourself in a situation in which you wish you would have the iPhone 4's superior camera with flash, or it's FaceTime feature to chat with a friend or family member, or it's new speed and pep when your 3GS starts lagging.

I'm sure before the first iPhone many people were saying that they were getting by on their old phones, and look where we all are now.

thats awesome i am glad you are not getting the iphone 4, just means one more extra iphone out there for me to grab... woot woot!!!

Why would anyone not get the new iPhone if money they get from selling the 3GS would cover the cost of the new one? It's not like the iPhone 4 is worst than the 3GS. Sure there may be features that did not impress you, but overall, it IS a better phone.

There are too many good alternatives on other networks now. My 3G is eligible for an upgrade, but I think I am going to let the contract expire and get an android on a viable network.
