i am guessing this is an error and they have option for USA? can anyone confirm traffic live for USA

NAVIGON Live Services: Traffic Live
Answer:

Thanks to traffic information in real time, NAVIGON users can find out where the roads are clear with Traffic Live. You will be recommended the best route at all times – taking the current traffic situation into consideration.

Traffic Live is available in the following countries:
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Great Britain, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland
Yes, US too.

whats the chance of this going even lower on good friday .. i am guessing this is the lowest it will go .. i see the lowest it ever went was $24.99 for full map

currently 49.99 drop to 29.99

App doesn't seem to recognize that I previously paid for Traffic Live. When I do "restore purchases" it restores Panorama View 3D and places a check next to it but Traffic Live remains unchecked.

Two emails to the nice people at Navigon go unanswered.

Any suggestions?

Steve

Google "iTunes store refund"

Ask for a refund and then redownload

I appreciate the suggestion.

I found the transaction in my iTunes purchase history and did a screen print.

I'm going to give Navigon another day and then just try and re-buy the in-app purchase. If it charges me again I will dispute with Apple.

When I become King companies who don't respond to e-mails a week later will lose their e-mail privileges.

Actually, within the purchase history window, you can hit "report a problem" and it will reroute you to customer service to put in a ticket. That's why I suggested you Google "iTunes store refund". There's a way to do it easily, I just couldn't type it out at the moment because I had to tend to my dinner in the oven :)

2.4 GB before and after

For anyone interested in details about NAVIGON North America file space used before and after updating. This on iPhone4 iOS 5.0.1:

Before

NAVIGON MobileNavigator North America
NAVIGON 1.8.2.ipa

1.81 GB Finder info
1.69 GB iTunes info
2.4 GB Settings > General > Usage info

After updating the app

NAVIGON North America
NAVIGON 2.0.ipa

47.4 MB Finder info
45.3 MB iTunes info
641 MB Settings > General > Usage info

After downloading all maps

1.7 GB Settings > General > Usage info

Checking Dataman before an after showed 2.06 GB downloaded by adding the maps.

After downloading Panorama 3D

2.4 GB Settings > General > Usage info

So, at least for me, the size ended up being the same.

The first time I ran the updated app and tapped into Map Manager, "Files required 203.6 MB - For downloading" was already checked.

I downloaded the required files and California, then downloaded all of the other maps. Took ~ 10 minutes which seemed reasonable.

Started the app. As reported by others, the "Take Me Home" and "My Destinations" selections were empty. I used the Dock to kill the app, then relaunched. At that point the destinations appeared as expected.

Interestingly, in "Take Me Home" and in a handful of "Recents", the addresses now included "San Francisco Bay Area" wedged between the street number and the city. Random as far as I can tell and seems like a glitch. It didn't affect routing, but I re-entered my home address out of caution.

I would prefer to have the Favorites and Recents on separate screens. The split screen looks spiffy the first time you see it, but it gets tedious quickly.

My settings were preserved. I like the new settings interface. I also like that the app's Settings > Sound > Volume is now unified with the Music (aka iPod) volume. While in the Volume screen I used the Dock to double-swipe right (reveal left twice). You can see both sliders at the same time and they move in unison.

My Extras were visible -- I did not have to restore them. But I did have to re-download Terrain_NA.nfs 729.MB for Panorama View 3D, re-launch the app, and then enable it in Settings > Map View.

FWIW, the turn-by-turn voice is named "Lynn". The previous version didn't show a name. My kids had designated this voice "Mento" because of the over-emphasis pronouncing SacraMENTO. :p

back to Tom Tom I go - not liking this. Navigon still looks WAY better than anything else - but functionality wise, IQ - Tom Tom wins hands down.

hmmm dam statements like this make me not pull the trigger on navigon ... can u elaborate more and what u feel tomtom is better at?

Isn't Navigon's feature where it uses your traffic data basically the same as TomTom's IQ Routes?

For me, Navigon's routing has always been terrible. Between my house and many common destinations, it often chooses a route that is 20 miles or so out of the way, ignoring roads that are CLEARLY the fastest way to get there. The final straw was when my wife tried to use it returning from a nearby city she didn't really know he way around by herself, late at night in bad weather. It gave her directions that made a trip that should be 1hr 45mins into nearly 3hrs. No thanks.

Among Garmin, Tomtom and Navigon, my impression (I have bought all of them) is that Garmin's route is the best without traffic (I did not test the traffic). Of coz Garmin has other issues such as scratchy voice and voice prompts tend to come late.

I have been a huge Navigon fan for the most part. I had bought Tom Tom first, then Navigon and used it for a good year exclusively - I mostly liked the better looking application and one time traffic cost. Navigon led me astray a few times and I thought let me run them side by side and see which way Tom Tom takes me - since I knew which way was the best and which way Navigon had always took me I tried it. Navigon always took me a round about way to get me there, but me knowing the fastest best route wanted to see where Tom Tom would take me. And darned if you would not know it Tom Tom took me the way that I go anyways. So I switched to Tom Tom and used it exclusively for about 6 months or so. Then I read of the new update to navigon and thought - I sure hope this fixes the IQ as I really prefer the GUI and pretty application that navigon has built, but when it comes to getting me places Tom Tom would win. Not saying that Navigon did not get me there, but it did not get me there the fastest or the best route - Tom Tom always did this without fail.

So fast forward to now - I did the same test and navigon wanted to lead me astray again, couple that with the confusion of the maps downloading, removal of ipod controls and the them also not giving us the ability to have the voice a percentage of the music volume - I started thinking - maybe I do like Tom Tom better. I also like the screen setup on Tom Tom better - I find that the speed/speed limit display in the same place as well as having the time left to destination/arrival time both displayed at the same time I like. So the more I tried to embrace Navigon for it' killer maps and fancy GUI - the simplicity of the Tom Tom kept poking me in the side like an annoying PITA - so I have decided to just keep Tom Tom for now - I hope that they do not screw up their stuff with an update for then we are all screwed ;)

You might not agree with my views of what are important in the app so remember that it is just simply my opinion and my preference and you should choose based on what you like.

Again Navigon did get me where I was going every single time without fail, just not the most efficient way to get there.

I thought so too - but in my test this is clearly not the case for me :(

I would love that to be true - I love the Navigon looks way better than Tom Tom.

PS - Navigon is much more kind and pleasant to listen to voice - even polite saying please - my kids always say use navigon - she is much more polite to listen to :p

Pretty much my same experience, except that, as noted, Navigon was often off by a huge amount, not just a little bit. TomTom almost always takes me the way I would go, except the occasional shortcut that takes a minute or two off.

The Navigon interface is fancier, but I actually find the TomTom a little friendlier and easier to use when driving down the road.

After using Navigon for a day, my impression so far (compared to Waze, which I had been using previously) is that:

1. The routing isn't as always good as Waze (Navigon gets me there, but sometimes there are routes that I know are faster that I can't get it to suggest). Also when I toggled on "residents only roads" and asked it to bring me to the local McDonalds, it gave me the most obscure route ever, cutting through everyone's neighborhoods.

2. The interface for highway exits is much much better than Waze. With Waze I'd run into cases where it told me the wrong exit number, where it didn't have exit numbers at all, or it would tell me something like "left turn in 2 miles" on the highway and conveniently forget the step about having to take a highway exit first. With Navigon the exits are clearly numbered, it tells me exactly which lanes I need to be in, and even mocks up a nice image of what the exits look like.

3. I like how it tells me what side of the road the destination is on (which Waze didn't do).

4. All the social chatter from Waze was kind of annoying when I was using it, but now that it's gone I miss it a little. Also, Navigon doesn't provide "Police (visible)" reports like Waze does.

5. Navigon feels more secure to have around. With Waze I occasionally ran into "routing errors" when it would refuse to give me a route. With Navigon I feel like that wouldn't happen because the routing presumably happens on the phone rather than on a remote routing server. Also, it's nice to have the maps of all of North America locally on my phone in case I ever find myself in a location without reliable 3G.

Edit:

Tonight I went ahead and attempted to repurchase the in app Traffic Live. It recognized that I had purchased previously and downloaded for free.

All is good!

After reading every comment here and the most recent reviews in the app store I've decided to wait for TomTom to go on sale. I don't understand the four star rating Navigon had prior to this latest update. If it regularly takes you out of the way and uses longer routes, that's a deal breaker to me.

with navigon can u repeat the voice command for turn directions? i didnt see an option to have lady repeat herself.

TOMTOM charges monthly fees for traffic though, correct?

many of the recent reviews are for the new MAP updates .. people are not happy about it and it was very confusing

guessing TOMTOM and Navigon are the top Nav apps

http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/services/
IS this accurate that u get all live services for free for the first year. dont think this is for iphone
if this is all true all i need is for tomtom USA to go down to 29.99 same as navigon and it will be a sale.

With TOMTOM is it easier to copy past addresses into tomtom route destination then with navigon? I think with navigon they sell 3rd party apps to make it compatible. on the website it sounds like u can copy from applications or websites right into TOMTOM.
It makes it so hard to make these expensive purchases without being able to try out the application first.

In the bottom left there's usually a small image showing what the next turn will be. If you touch that image, then it reads out that turn direction again.
