How can anyone complain. You are getting a base 32gb plus other upgrades for $100 more.
The argument is that for 5 years Apple does that on a yearly basis for the same price. Every year its a better iPad for the same price. Now its been 18 months and $100 more.....where right now you can get a 64GB Air 2 for that price. So they're cutting the storage yet adding features for 100 more. Its wonky and not really defendable at all. Come Monday they will keep the Air 2 , 16GB at 499. So what about an inevitably higher capacity....like 32 or 64....will that then be 599? The whole thing becomes an even larger joke if the Air 2 at larger capacity is 599 after the event.

It's the principal of the whole thing thats upsetting many and rightfully so.

If it supports Apple Pencil, then fine. If not, then Apple is literally insane to try and sell a "high end" iPad Air 2 with just more storage and possibly a better keyboard accessory.

Another edition of cannot please anyone. They make the base storage bigger, oh its unusable.

They have to increase the price somewhere. Even if dollars each, no doubt the extra storage and more RAM with the A9x and 2 extra speakers costs more. How much more you can debate, but it costs more than the Air 2 for sure.

The display that does Apple pencil is PROBABLY more expensive than the Air 2 display. So you're talking extra costs.

Apple is under ZERO duty to provide more and more for the same price year to year. That was a luxury not a promise.

The same people who are bitching bought a $599 Air 2 because 16gb is too small. So they werent in the market for anything under $500 to begin with! Now you can have the base model for $599 with 32gb plus everything else the IPP mirror brings; not just an Air with more storage. If this was an iPad Air 2 with new processor and 32gb ok I get the argument $100 extra isnt fair.

Some people make no sense.

Did Sony increase price when PS4 launched...? I guess Sony either doesn't care about profits or they owed customer a lot.

Another one...

Current W222 S550 had base price LOWER than W221 S550 when it launched in 2013 (I believe it was $1000 lower)

This is freaking S Class we're talking about. The amount of development that goes into chassis engineering, weight saving, engines, fuel efficiency, safety, comfort, handling (I've driven S65 at track, and it handled like a much smaller car), driving feel/dynamics, etc is unmatched in the industry. W222 took luxury and safety to the next level in many aspects, but it started lower than the outgoing model it replaces... Furthermore, it had more standard features than when W221 launched. Heck, even rearview camera and keyless go were optional on W221.

I guess MB owed its customers a lot

And those people were b!tching up a storm when iOS 8 came out saying they didn't even have enough storage to upgrade. It was a very hot topic. Also this a pro device. Average consumers wont be getting this. The whole case and point of why many are ticked off here.

Its not the only choice. Pro users know that no matter what device you buy your going to have to upgrade to what is needed by them. And Apple fixed the issue of not having enough storage to update, without having to buy a bigger storage.

I'm not saying 32GB isn't enough storage for a pro user. I'm just saying that it not "Unusable"

I'm going to wait until Monday to see what Apple has up their sleeves. It the price is true, it is a little steep, but I'm upgrading my iPad this year no matter what.

So in a time of dwindling iPad sales, Apple decides to price what would otherwise have been a $499 iPad Air 3 at $599? What's next, an iPad Pro 7.9" at $499?
No, they didn' t do that. They didn' t release a iPad Pro 16gb. That' s all they did.

The iPad lineup...

iPad mini 2, iPad mini 4, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro (9.7"), iPad Pro (12.9"), each with 2-3 storage sizes, 2-3 colours, Wifi models and LTE models.

Yeah, that's not confusing at all. I feel bad for people who want to buy an iPad. The odds of you getting the one that's just right for you are pretty low.

If you buy them randomly, then yes.

If they're really going to do this, then they need to cut the price of the iPad Air 2 to $399, discontinue the original iPad Air and iPad mini 2, and cut the price of the iPad mini 4 to $299. The iPad lineup is crowded enough as it is.

That sounds good in theory but it becomes even more crazy that for $200 more all you get is a faster processor and 4 speakers (camera doesnt count as no one cares).

Any way you cut this it just doesn't make sense at all and even more greedy that I expect from apple.

God I just want them to stop with the awful naming conventions. iPad 2, New iPad, iPad Air 1/2/3, now iPad Pro, and soon to be New iPad Pro 3 in a few years, it's stupid and confusing. Why can't we have the 'early 2016 9.7" iPad'? This has worked fine for MacBooks.

Typical Tim Cook Apple:
1. run out of ideas (Just take a look at iOS and OSX)
2. go after new product category prematurely (Watch)
3. resizing and renaming existing ones
4. having done all above, have the audacity to increase price.

1. I don't have great expectations for amazing new iOS or OS X features. Both are quite mature at this point. Stability and performance are the most important things for them to focus on.

2. I don't think they went after a new category prematurely. I think they went after a new category nobody really cares about. They thought their brand cachet would have everyone ooing and ahhhing over the fine piece of "jewelry" they produced. Instead we got an ugly black blob that looks like it escaped the 80s. It's a niche accessory product that pads the bottom line, but it will never ever be a "tent pole" product. Let this be a warning should they decide to produce a car. I'm not saying they can't or shouldn't do it, but just because it has an Apple logo doesn't mean it will be a success.

3. I don't have a problem with the screen size options. I don't see this as a lack of innovation. It's offering consumers a choice. I don't think Apple expects every customer to buy an iPad mini, Air, and Pro. They simple recognize that different people prefer different size devices, so there's something for everyone.

4. Apple has been able to maintain premium pricing for a long time but iPad sales have been declining for some time and there's no chance a more expensive iPad is going to reverse this. I don't think Apple really knows what to do with the iPad. They refuse to make it a proper laptop replacement. Like a lot of people, I thought the iPad seemed like such a cool device until I got one. I kept trying to find reasons to use it, but I always just opted for my computer instead.

When I look at other tech companies, no one is offering new and exciting products. Everything is derivative. Apple is no different. The current trend is to nickel and dime us on services. It's kind of just boring times in the (consumer) tech world really.

Not much chance of that, because the pound is now weaker against the dollar it's going to be over £500.

True, didn't factor that in :(

It's all going to get a bit expensive this year. With VAT it would come to about £507 in a straight conversion, so I imagine it'd be a fair bit higher than that, possibly around £530?

I doubt the pro is the direct replacement for the Air 2. I suspect we will see an Air 3 with lower specs out at some point.
