I feel sorry for the people whose office is behind that huge banner...
They will undoubtedly sue Apple, dropping the stock price and bringing out the " fire Tim Cook" crowd in all their glory!

I've been in buildings with banners like these before and usually these things are kind of see-through from the inside, though they look like solid material from outside they're actually perforated like a mesh to allow seeing out... can't speak for this one though specifically, of course.

The other logo is the iPhone rose gold. This building must've gotten paid, all those ads.

Nice but wont be buying Apple TV till it supports, you know live TV.

No point having this at the moment.

I like the vertical orientation. Maybe it means that Apple is about to release an update that fixes the horrible horizontal on-screen keyboard in the current version of the ATV software.

Hmm...I find this ad campaign almost as dumb as the Genuis one from a couple years ago. Does Apple think this is going to get someone to buy an Apple TV?

Great job at offering nothing but complain and no reasoning.

Certainly large eye-catching advertising is never successful.

Different types of ads have different goals. You are right that THIS particular ad won't convince anyone to buy an AppleTV.

But the purpose of THIS ad is not sales. The purpose is apparently simple brand/product awareness. Most people I know have no idea that the AppleTV exists. Oh sure they all know about Apple. They all have their iPhones and iPads and use them at work. But most of them are like "Apple also makes an Apple TV??? Really?? Is it kinda like Roku or Netflix?? I never knew that existed!"

And with THIS type of ad…. now more people are aware that AppleTV exists.

Kinda an odd way to present the TV. For some the color test may remind them of a glitch, maybe something Apple doesn't want to be seen with the Apple TV
This just proves that the apple bashers are experts at finding every little possible way to hate apple.

Wow. That banner is both hideous (the ugly colors at the bottom?) and it reminds me of a glitch or a color test - throw back to tube TVs.

I wonder if this means there is going to be a big announcement soon? For example, the ability to stream TV on AppleTV?...
Absolutely

Do you really have trouble understanding the nature of this ad? Come on man. Use some imagination. I can't understand why you would be involved with apple with so much apple hatred going on here.

Well you know what? That banner is doing it's job then. If it reminds you anything about a TV then mission accomplished. If people are so uptight and take things so seriously that they would automatically associate that with something adverse then they don't need the product in the first place.
Absolutely. So many here hate apple yet buy their products. How hypocritical can you get?

I saw one at Crescent Heights and Sunset Blvd in West Hollywood on my way home from work earlier. I thought it was a clever ad for the gay residents in Weho. Whoops.
How very cruel and insensitive.

The Shot on iPhone 6 campaign was eye-catching. What's eye catching about this?

Clearly there are better ways of product awareness, no? Why not an ad campaign that makes you aware of Apple TV and actually showcase why you would want one?

All it takes is Apple to release an ad, and all the marketing expert that know how to do good ads come out!
I wonder if Anyone who is making bad remark at this campaign is actually making even a cent out of advertizing.

And even if there are, they should know that there's NO such thing as bad advertizing, heck the fact that people are here commenting (either in a bad or a good way) means the ad IS in fact working as intended (get people to talk about the company / product).

Because you want them to be curious and go look for it (engage them and interact with them)! and "Clearly" Apple does think that this is the best way for them to do it!
on

EDIT:
Borrowing from the Think Different campaign, this could be said about the ad:

About the only thing you can’t do is ignore it

There must be a reason behind these advertisements other than simply the new Apple TV.

There is. Those bars meant one thing when they were shown on television -

Technical difficulties... Stay tuned...

They really need to improve the content in the app store before they start heavily promoting this thing. The new UI is nice, but overall the ATV 4 has been a disappointment for me so far.

It's odd how the SMPTE pattern is really easy to miss, even more than the colours appearing in the original Apple logo (from the 80s/90s at least) - all I'm seeing is a LGBT flag and it creates an incoherent association - Apple TV and gay rights? They don't seemingly go together.

Seems like bad ad planning.

Big, bold color. That's all that matters. Obviously it got your attention as you've been talking about it all morning. In that case, it's done its job.

It's a billboard, not a video. With a billboard the goals are far different. You don't spend the time showing all the awesome features of a device. You just want people to see it and think of you and the product. And they did a fine job of that here.

You seem to have zero experience with outdoor advertising yet talk as if you believe yourself to be an expert.

ITT people who don't understand advertising.

Exactly. Experts in everything that clearly show their lack of knowledge.

It's not like they can do much about it, it is up to the developers to make apps!!
