But doesn't the 15" and 17" already contain i5 and i7 processors? That doesn't make any sense.

When does Apple ever announce what will be in a refresh before it happens? If you knew anything at all about Apple or the tech industry you would realize that Apple will have Sandy Bridge in the next MBP. At least the 15" and 17" will.

Excuse you? Why must all of you "geeks" feel the need to talk down to people who simply posted a question/opinion? This is a discussion forum. No one knows the right answers. Not even you.

You're actively taking part in discussion on a forum dedicated to computers. Pot meet kettle.

but if they arent using sandy bridge then are they going to stick to the current i3, 5 and 7s?

This is EXACTLY what I said earlier and got slammed for. I highly doubt they'll be using the Sandy Bridge chips. I think the base Macbook Pro (13"), will probably get the i3 and maybe some minor speck updates in the 15" and 17" both.

I will not be surprised if they eliminated the optical drives in the next refresh and sold them separately. This will be the main reason for them to push the App Store.

maybe they are just using the ports on sandy bridge that arent glitchy? or maybe they will not use sandy bridge at all in which case we will all be dissapointed and have to wait another 10 months.

Sandy bridge is a guarantee they won't get smoked by competition for not using it. I never thought of the app store and the cd drive together but it makes perfect sense and I'm even more hopeful they will eliminate it. <3 this thread its what I needed to keep me up to date as I wait.

Haven't all of the SB processors been recalled?

Yep, and they are already working on new ones without the defect - news reports say they should be ready to ship some by the end of the month.

Is that why you think it's not possible that Apple will use them?

The end of the month is 20 days away. Less than three weeks. After Apple receives them, that will then leave Apple with less than two weeks to have the chips installed and have them delivered to all retail locations. I don't see that happening. It's not even logical.

Im not sure if its still an issue, but your also forgetting that the previous gen i3+i5+i7 (not Sandy Bridge) could not fit in the Macbook without using the crappy integrated graphics! The Intel + Nvidia settlement was less than a month ago, so I doubt they would have been able to fix that...

So it would have to be Sandy Bridge or they would have to take out the optical disc drive to fit a graphics card in.

They're already rumors stating they will be eliminating the optical drive to push the App Store.

This was posted today. It will only make sense for them to do this if you ask me. They have the App Store, to push it to its full potential, they will have to eliminate software CDs in their stores and force/implement the use of the App Store.

If you think about it, most people were downloading music illegally when Apple introduced iTunes. The same thing is happening with software companies. They are suffering because of pirated issues floating around on the internet. Why will Apple not implement this?

They will remove the optical drives, force buyers to purchase apps via the App store. Sale the computer the for the exact same price, while taking a percentage off top of the developers earnings. It's classic Apple.
