New clues that may point to Macbook pros refresh

Here are the reported prices via Best Buy:

MC724LL/A-SKU# 9755395 – $1499 – 13 inch
MC700LL/A-SKU# 9755322 – $1199 – 13 inch
MC725LL/A-SKU# 1535918 – $2499 – 17 inch
MC723LL/A-SKU# 1535845 – $2199 – 15 inch
MC721LL/A-SKU# 1535836 – $1799 – 15 inch

I really want to stay with the 15 inch. I got a similar model when I got my all-silver MBP in 2008 for $2199.

other than the 17" which got more expensive, the prices has not changed for the US store... just take a look at the UK prices now and they prob will be the same. =]

clue to more than a simple upgrade?

I was in my College's bookstore on Thursday and overheard an Apples Sales Rep talking to the Manager about setting up a display table downstairs (which is where the main entrance is). Not the most solid confirmation in the world, but considering that my school is like an advertisement for Macbooks/Pros (and laptops are popular among students in general), it would make sense for Apple to set up a special display to hype release of a new MBP.

And just to put this in context, I've never seen any sort of Apple display set up in the bookstore before. Even at the beginning of the year. So it seems to me to be something out of the ordinary, thus my guess that we'll be seeing a new product launch and more than a simple internals upgrade.

I prayed to god today for:

256gb SSd
Decent gpu
Liquid metal black finish
No optical and bigger battery for 11+ hrs battery

On a 17" ... It's not much to ask but I would be in heaven if any come true.

Those are the expected prices. Around £1020 for the base MBP which is still a complete outrage compared to the US prices.

Current conversion of the US $1199 right now is

1,199.00 USD = 737.665 GBP

So an extra £282.34 UK Apple Tax.

Damn you!

Hey how much do you guys think the mbp will go for on amazon on the first day? Just wondering because on average theyre about -100 off of retail now, but i'm wondering about the initial refresh day. Thanks

lol try buying one in brasil. 13' base MBP is just U$2300. the base 17'? just U$5200.

All these rumor updates are amazing. I see the rumor of a release this Thursday but is that all it still is or is it pretty well official?

Color of ipod classic similar to the new website color. Color is also very similar to liquidmetal?!?!?!

I can only hope that they have a color similar to the dark metal ipod, That would look great. (Also hoping for at least a higher power GFX card whenever they do upgrade the MBP.)

We will have to see how the rumors hold over the next week.

Great - I just bought a new 13" 2.66 ghz MBP on Tuesda to replace my MacBook and on Wednesday or Thursday found out about the rumors of a refresh!

I bought from Best Buy so if there are some signficant changes to it I will probably return it for a new one. Honestly, I am loving this MBP and for my relatively basic needs it is more than I need but I am a sucker for the next new thing...LOL

Just started using Time Machine so hopefully changing over all my info onto a new computer won't be too tedious.

I'm sick of these narcissistic posts where personal preferences are touted as inevitable conclusions of the idiots at Apple design. If you had it your way, Apple would ship us monogrammed 25" MacBook Airs in boxes with black and white cow print. There is a reason why you aren't in charge.

And why are you so keen to replace the optical drive with components Apple charges such a huge premium for (i.e. internal storage)? Even if you don't need it, wouldn't you want the option to chose a less expensive computer with an optical drive?

You could put a better spec'd SSD in it's place and avoid the significant loss replacing the expensively-priced Apple internal storage while having additional flexibility for aftermarket mods.

Optical drives will go when their time is done - why the rush?

The two most likely to fail components in current notebooks are the HDD and the ODD. The HDD will soon be replaced by SSDs in notebooks, and the ODD needs to be replaced as well. ODDs are generally (note: I didn't say always) used relatively infrequently. For those that do need to use the ODDs, external drives are fairly cheap and more reliable than internal ones.

If Apple were to take out the ODD, it wouldn't be for the SSD, as Apple's SSDs are blade-style and take very little space. Removing the ODD would allow Apple to better optimize the space inside the MBP for heat, or for graphics, etc. Sure, you could suggest that the user simply take out the ODD him/herself, but that voids the warranty. It would be nice to have first-party support for something you were going to do anyway. Also, yeah, aftermarket SSDs are faster than Apple's. But you have to consider that Apple's SSDs also have custom firmware optimizations that no other drives have. These optimizations combat SSD degradation, as well as other issues that some drives seem to have. The drives might be slower, but how fast do you REALLY need your drive to be? Can you notice the difference between 250 MB/s vs 350 MB/s without a benchmarking tool? Now that SSDs are becoming more widely used, they're reaching a similar point to CPUs. Speed increases are hardly noticeable to all but the most hardcore users.

Damn you!

Don't forget the UK price has already included the VAT which is 20%.

So GBP1,020 / 1.20 = 850, 850 - 737.665 = GBP112.335 UK Apple Tax.

Do you feel better now?
