The Dell SP2309W has a unique higher resolution of 2048 x 1152 than the 1920 x 1080 usually supported (1080P) but it is a TN panel.

And IMHO the best one...

Dell 2209WA which uses the new E-IPS panel as opposed to the others which use TN panels.

Read all of this thread and all of the linked thread on the SP2309W and then make your decision.

The SP2309W thread discusses the advantages of that display and its disadvantages (TN Panel).

FWIW I boxed up my 20" Apple Cinema Display and replaced it with the 2209WA.

I prefer an IPS panel and can live without the slighty larger size, higher resolution, and webcamof the SP2309W.

You are the one who will be using the display so I doubt anyone can tell you what is best for your needs.

FYI Dell has a sale going for monitors until Wednesday April 29, 2009.

I received a coupon code by e-mail but I'm sure a search will produce a valid coupon code.

Herewith is the price for the 2209WA with discount:

Just Google for "Dell Coupons" Advanced Search last 24 hours

or

try the [H]ard Forum for advise on how they used Small Business Dell Chat for discounted price. Tell them about the coupon deal and I'm sure they'll match the price.

I think the general consensus in this thread is that the 2209WA blows that one out of the water. Decide for yourself, but image quality is much higher in the 2209WA, mainly because the e-IPS panel is better than a TN, and it's cheaper.
Hope that answered your question.

I'm connecting the 2209 to my Macbook but when my MB display goes to sleep, the Dell monitor doesn't go into power saving mode. It just thinks there's nothing plugged in and has a "no VGA cable" message bouncing around forever. Does this happen with all Macs or is it because I'm using a VGA and not DVI cable?

I have a Dell 2209WA + a Macbook pro 2.2 Santa Rosa. When using the DVI input the display does not work, it stays blank and cannot find the input signal from the MBP. If I use the DVI to VGA adaper works fine. I would like to use the digital input  . Does anyone have this setup? Any comment on why would this happen or how to fix it?

(I have tested the DVI input using windows and it works just fine)

The problem was that my MBP video card was dying (It is one of those damn NVidia 8600GT). Apple replaced the logic board and It works just fine now using DVI + the Dell 2209WA

Duff-Man says....I just ordered a pair of 2209WA's to use with a new Mac Pro (that I have not yet ordered..soon though). Shipping on them is listed as 3-5 weeks but it seems to be the experience of others that they'll ship much sooner than that....oh yeah!

I ordered a 22" for work along w/ a new Dell. Have it side by side with a 19" Dell. They sent the 2209 and I've gotta say I'm very impressed.

I am still in limbo on a 24" for home use, but after seeing this 2209 I may rethink going for a 24". if I want full 1080p I can watch my tv I suppose...

Very impressive looking monitor.

This happened when I ordered my 2209. It kept saying 3 weeks to ship, then after about 1 week, it changed to shipped. I wasn't going to complain. :)

I love my 2209. I have seen a couple of the other 22" models, and they aren't nearly as good as this one. I bought it mainly for the adjustments (height adjustment, tilt, rotate), and happened to get a great monitor in the process.

What kind of coupons or discounts are you finding lately? The web site Shows it at $219.

I know nothing about e-IPS technology and it's awfully cheap for an IPS panel, but someone claimed e-IPS is a 6-bit panel with some smoke and mirrors to improve viewing angle. H-IPS and S-IPS are 8-bit and much more expensive.

Duff-Man says...those are basically my reasons as well. The choices for decent quality 22" monitors with pivot are somewhat limited and the 2209WA is great bang for the dollar....oh yeah!

22" 1080P for $159, i don't know much about monitors but that seems cheap for that size and resolution, no?

I would not try to buy that monitor from that web address. Instead, go to dell.com and then look for that monitor.

Just trying to avoid any potential Internet fraud problems.
