New 'Get a Mac' Ads: Vista, Party, Genius

I love these new anti-vista ads mainly because they are so true. :D

!!!!! vista is XP, with a new design mostly, which was XP, which was 98, which was 95........

:apple: is tha ****!

It was innovative at the beginning, first couple of ads.
It's not innovative when you repeat the same thing over and over again.

its the same concept, but ideas are new.......!

..."they shouldn't be gloating so much though because of the Leopard delay."

A delay of a few months is not even slightly comparable to a delay of five years! If Apple wants to gloat, I say "Let them gloat!"

I'm with you there :)

My theory on the five years ... so whatever happened to 'Vista was to be a new OS completely rebuilt from the ground up'? I suspect one day the truth will come out that this Vista is an enlarged XP (developed as a fall back) and the true Vista aka Longhorn was scrapped as a failure.

Based on my (I admit very limited) experience with Vista:

Vista = XP + DRM + Aero + Bugs + $ 300

:D

That's not what the Mac Geniuses look like at MY Apple Store.

Seriously, that genius needs to cut her hair, gain some weight, and grow some male parts, because all of the geniuses i've seen have been fat white guys (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Girls that look like that just get assigned to "walk around the store and ask people how they are doing" duty, which really means they just gossip with her effete gentleman co-worker in the software section, because no one actally looks at the software section.

These ads ARE starting to get annoying. How about Apple focus on their product for once instead of slamming MS. All this is doing is turning people off to the Mac because the ads after a certain amount of time start to feel like arrogance. And I'm sorry to say as someone who's had a Mac now for a year and a half; Apple's crap doesn't smell any sweeter then Microsoft's at the end of the day. Each have their strengths and each their weaknesses.

"Geniuses" are just as incompetent as your standard customer support agent. And if by some rare chance an Apple genius does actually know what the hell is wrong with the computer, his hands are usually tied and youre forced to ship out the computer to Apple for replacing something retarded that could easily be done at the store. They are a complete waste of time and are probably only there to talk you into buying a computer. If you want to add 3 or 4 days extra time on getting your Mac fixed then by all means take it to the Genius desk instead of shipping it out to Apple immediately (not to mention the added luxury of driving out to the store instead of having it shipped to your house).

ok, now I hope the ad campaign is over. Its been good but I am tired of it now.

Finally, voice of the reason. I was starting to feel alone out here :)

No your comment is ****. If Vista was XP you wouldn't see nearly as many problems as you are seeing in Vista from drivers to software compatibility.
The simple fact of the matter is Vista is Microsoft's 10.0. Actually more like 10.1 because its a hell of a lot more stable then the garbage that Apple put out with 10.0. SP1 this fall will probably be somewhere between 10.1 and 10.2 when it comes to polished code. MS has about a year to a year and a half before Vista is fully baked.

vista:xp is nothing like OSX:OS9. vista, while not just a pretty skin on top of XP, it is a direct descendant of XP/NT. OS X was a paradigm shift from OS 9, based on a completely different code base with almost nothing of the former showing up in the latter, bar compatibility. comparing the xp:vista switch to the OS9 to OSX switch is ludicrous in the extreme.

I'm sick of whiny windows fanboys but I'm even more sick of overly sensitive supposed mac users that seem to give more than a rat's ass about offending PC users. Give me a fricken break.

Have you guys seen some of the "macs sucks" sites on the web? Have an issue? I'll give you a tissue.

They are supposed to be funny. Laugh.

eh... at least get your information right. It took 5 years, it didn't delay 5 years. it's been like 2.5 yrs for OS X?

You're right--Vista was delayed FOUR years, not five :p Originally expected in 2003. Or if you count the token release last year, then only 3 years late.

Meanwhile the closest thing we have to Vista--in other words Jaguar--was out in 2002 :D And Leopard has been delayed by 4 entire months while we use the extremely mature Tiger (which Vista still can't match in MANY ways).

Marketing-wise this is a pretty bad ad. No one should bash competition because this cause people who use the "competition" (Windows Vista) to think that Apple think they are stupid by using Vista. They should put efforts on what makes the Mac different from Vista and stop bashing Microsoft directly. It's fun to see that Microsoft helps Apple (With Office on Mac OSX) and Apple is still bashing them. If Microsoft would stop OSX support, Apple would lose sales from people that needs Office comptability.

How is this any different than the last 5-10 years of Auto Manufacturer or Beer ads. They point out "flaws" on competitors all the time.

It works.

the "lets choose vista version" was the best, loved the ending. "didn't you make this"

had me laughing.

I DID laugh at the Vista ad. However, afterward I realized they included on that list of Vista versions the "Starter" version which is only available in the developing world (not the US and Europe). And as this ad is only going to be played in the US and (maybe Canada?), it seems a bit silly. I worry it's even offensive to go after them for having an affordable version of the OS for the developing world.

Microsoft does not even advertise that version:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/default.mspx

Basically, someone upgrading to Vista would likely never see Starter as an option. I think Apple's very funny ad would have been much stronger if it had omitted the Starter version. It's comical to point out they have 5 versions without adding in the 6th version. I think when you're making a joke at someone's expense it's important to be accurate, especially when it can concern a sensitive topic like the affordability of technology in the developing world.

the ads are funny, but macs havent been updated in a while (according to the buyer's guide). They should release new stuff, and then post these ads. I guess there are two major groups at apple: ad campaign and iPhone. wheres the rest?

That's it, because Apple is too busy doing 3 things:

1. Making iPhone.
2. Making Ads.
3. Transforming away from Apple Computer, Inc. to Apple, Inc.

I think Apple will make Mac-Feature-Specific Ads when Leopard comes out like Time Machine, Spaces, Mail etc. Probably also new iWork & iLife.

And I also hope they'll make something about Pro-apps(FCP, ...)... Vista Game was funny :)

I don't get where the "these ads aren't working" argument is coming from.
Quarterly sales continue to go up with at least half of those (i believe) going to new Mac users, how is that not working?

I like the new ones, and I don't think that anyone will find the "starter" version offensive (if they even find it). Apple has one version... $129 and thats the point

Does anyone not notice that the ads almost always have the Mac guy say what is positive about the Mac? The whole point is not to "pick on" the PC but instead to put into perspective the positive traits of the Mac by comparing it to the competition.

I really like the new ads. They were getting kind of stale but the new ones are good. I have to say though after checking out the UK ads, they are worlds better then the US ads, for one: They have more then one outfit.
