New iPad problems (dead pixels, overheating, scratched etc)

Don't see anything obviously wrong here. I did have some pixel issues with the iPad 1, but you really had to look hard to see where it was. And I did not notice it with time to return/replace it.

It took me a good 8-9 hours to fully restore the backup (including all downloaded apps) to my new iPad. During that time I noticed significant heat coming from the iPad at varying intervals. I am assuming that once this level of intense activity dies down this will not occur often. Will be keeping an eye on it.

Mine has a few dead pixels. Running a dead pixel repair off YouTube. Hopefully that fixes it. If not, going to exchange at the apple store.

What's that YouTube link you are using?

I have a dead/stuck pixel near the bottom I think imma live with. I have pure white screen with no yellowish hue...and no bleeding. I'd hate to exchange and get one worst. Since my messed up pixel at bottom I really don't notice it but what bugs me is I know it's like herpes and ain't going away:D

Also I opened up my 2nd iPad I had bough for my wife, I selfishly was gonna give her which ever one was the worst...it had the yellowish screen and a dead pixel right in center of screen. I can't win Lol

There's some dust under my screen too. Otherwise, perfect. Not sure if I want to gamble on a replacement or not. Thoughts?

Same boat! I'm learnings towards keeping it. You may get one worse..or with more light bleeding. I hate playing the return game...it's dumb..time consuming...and no guarantee. So that's my opinion. However, u could exchange and get that perfect one, lol

You see what I did there? Right back at square one..

Nice...I'm thinking it's a keeper too. No other issues to report and honestly, I could have dust on my screen at any given time regardless. Let's just call it "character"

True..I'm not sure about yours..but for me to notice mine, I have to go looking for it...so it helps me lean more to just keeping it too

New iPad = sad

i got my iPad in the mail and it was perfect for 1 to 2 hours. then i noticed the back was getting very hot and the right half of the screen was dim. then the screen went out altogether and won't power on. i called apple and was on hold 3 or 4 different times while i talked to different people. they finally put me on with some iPad god guy

he told me it was a new problem and they could not ship me a new one right a way. they are going to ship me a box and i have to send my iPad in and then wait for them to ship me a new one.

needless to say i was not happy at all with that. so to calm me down he offered me a 6' iPad cord or a iPod shuffle lol. i told him what i thought of the iPod shuffle very bluntly. he then offered me a iPod nano. i could see this was going nowhere so i took it.

they said i should get the shipping box monday and then who knows how long until i get my new iPad :(

Sorry to hear this. For a totally faulty iPad, they def should ship one out to you ASAP! But that's cool you're getting a free iPod nano ;) I can't believe they started w a cord first lol.

I just bought a third party 10 ft cord. I figured it would come in handy to charge my iPad while using it on the couch or in bed :) 8.99$

Yeah I really liked my screen overall, but there were like 5-7 places with pretty noticeable dust. I tried not to think of it, except I kept trying to wipe it away, as if the screen had large debris on it. I just went to the Apple Store and did a quick swap, but haven't opened the new one yet.. fingers crossed.

Chuck Norris got his iPad 3 and it came with a dead pixel... The guy who sold him the iPad is dead too.

Wifi Terrible

I've got my new iPad sitting here next to my first generation iPad. The 1st gen shows a full wifi signal, while the new iPad can only intermittently detect my router (Linksys E3000) at all. This is the case everywhere in the house except standing right next to the router.

Is anybody else having this issue?

I've updated the router's firmware (which didn't help), temporarily disabled the security settings on the router to ensure it isn't an encryption issue, but no success. The 1st gen iPad has shown full strength the entire time, while the new iPad goes in and out.

I have the new 32 gb Wifi-only version, which sucks when it can't detect a wifi signal as well as the 1st gen iPad.

My replacement is free of dust! Both my original and replacement are warmer than the iPad 1 I'm borrowing, but I personally think most screens are calibrated too cool, so I'm happy with this. There's a tiny bit of blacklight bleeding but not noticeable in normal conditions. And screen uniformity is OK, not perfect.. but no LCD seems to be these days. Really thrilled with this, as it's my first iPad purchase and it really feels like a viable micro-laptop replacement. Really impressed with the new hardware! And boy it's snappy!

If you have a MagSafe charger or the older laptop chargers you can take the plug off the iPad charger and use the extension they include with laptop chargers. I keep one by my couch and one at my desk. Makes it easier to move the laptop if I need battery power as well.

Do not have this issue. In fact I was shocked at how much better the range is. My old iPad wouldn't let me go more than 10 feet away from the house. I was going out to help my daughter off the trampoline and still trucking right along 100+ feet away from the house.

Decided to turn on a desk lamp and look at my screen with the display off. It appears that there is a big smudge under the glass and a streak also. I plan to get an exchange tomorrow. I always have had terrible luck with iDevices and dust, cracks, smudges in the screen. Surely they will replace it.

Crashing safari is still possible on the new iPad. I figured with 1GB I'd never see low memory crashes again. But this one website crashed every time I tried to open it. That's what I get for trying to read about some crazy Kony on TMZ.

I hate jinxing it, but I think for once I got a good one the first time. I didn't inspect too closely, but I have no dead pixels or dust under the screen. (Had these issues with both my iPhone 4 and iPad 2). I don't care about light bleed really, but I checked for it anyway, and there is none.

Slapped a screen protector, back snap on case, and smart cover. Done inspecting. On to enjoying.

batotman, I remember a guy who called himself batotman on Harmony Central :D

Heres a picture of the little scratch/chip I was talking about on mine:

Still not sure if I plan to try and exchange it yet or not.

I just exchanged my white 32 ATT 4G iPad at Best Buy because there were dead pixels in the middle of the screen. I thought it was dust on top, but it wasn't.

The Apple rep at the store said they had "a few" returns today based on my issue. I wasn't even looking for them but they were relatively easy to see in the GMail app which displayed a pure white screen. Hopefully the second one will be better!
