Amen to that brother. I am on the look out for a mint condition or brand new 1st gen Nano. Kicking myself for selling mine. It was by far the best design and a step forward and up from the iPod Mini. Then Apple had to go all, "Let's duck it up and watch the weirdos still buy it!" on us.
-----------------------------------------

the only reson i never bough the 1st or 2nd gen nanos cause they didnt have video, id definatly get this

That Nano design looks ridiculous. There's no need for wheel controls if the screen is touch sensitive. It adds unnecessary bulk to the device making it not so Nano anymore. I hope this rumor is wrong.

OMG!!!!, DUDE THE SCREEN IS OBVIOUSLY NOT TOUCH SENSITIVE, NOT EVERYTHING IS GOING TOUCH

Apple's team of high priced lawyers are pretty quick when it comes to taking down rumors that are true or are actually leaked. Have you noticed that most rumors go unanswered by Apple and turn out to be false...I sense a connection. Most of the time though I bet they sit around and laugh at stuff like this. I mean come on, who is this guy in the video? Does he work for Apple? No because he would be fired and sued if it was true first of all. Who are these mysterious "sources" he speaks of?

Like this picture that wasn't taken down, and wasnt even brough up by apple???? hmmm, your right.

oh yeah, and it was label a hoax for a good while

I might as well buy a Zune if this is what the iPod nano is going to look like.
omg the zune looks like ipods, not the other way around apple came up with the tall skinny concept first, and zune jipped it. okay. and c-mon, we know your not buying a zune. are you really that upset about it

I'm not sure why you're so defensive about people criticizing Kevin Rose, but there have been numerous examples of Apple issuing cease-and-desist notices for leaked images over the years. A quick trip to Google will likely turn up a whole bunch of them. Instead of assuming this antagonistic posture and demanding proof for things that are evident to those of us who have been around on this site for a while, go look it up yourself.

I'm not trying to be a jerk to you. It's just that your challenges to some people here are bordering on ridiculous.

I'd settle for music stored in the music in the music folder, video stored in the video folder at this point. But yeah, I wish they would break up the content into usable directories. I moved all my video podcasts out of iTunes and started using Miro since it let's you do organize it the way you want.

That is honestly one thing I really want from iTunes 8. I'm tired of having my video stored in my music folder. As a librarian, this just does not cut it.

I guess I'm the only person who's thinking that this nano would be terrible for the simple fact that using a curved clickwheel would be incredibly annoying. Think about it! Your thumb has to move around in the strangest way... not to mention, can that even be built? Outside of that, the stupid thing is like 5:1 If you hold the iPod there is like no room at all to even grip it to use the clickwheel....

It's ugly, it'd be extremely crampy and hard to hold, terrible clickwheel design, curved screen with like no viewing angle, thin enough to slice your butt off if you go down a slide with it in your pocket, and where the hell are you supposed to put the damn headphone jack?

This is a bunch of crap.

im not defensive, it's just im pretty new to the mac fandom, and i've never heard of apple doing that, i hope it didnt sound rude, cause i didnt meant to come across that way, i just wanted to know how many times in the past has apple done this??? im genreally curious

actually it wouldnt be hard to hold, i once laid my hands on a 1st gen, nano and it's actually easier to hold than the fattie, and ppl it really isnt THAT much of a curve, it's only slight, and it is practical cause it's more ergonomic

What About A New 'classic'?

if the new nano looks like that, then they'd likely make the classic look somewat like it

Regarding the 'new nano' photo, I would think that if it were real the sites would've heard from Apple Legal by now to take it down. Been done before...

Now, with all the talk about a 'redesigned' nano, and a 'slightly tweaked' touch, not much has been said about the classic, except that it might disappear. But I would like to expand on Jeff's comment a bit.

I am all for a new classic, particularly along these lines:

• HD capacity the same or better
• Bluetooth stereo
• Touchscreen
• 2.40:1 Aspect Ratio

Concerning the screen, it would measure 2 x 4 13/16 inches (that's 5 3/16 diagonal) to enable the 2.40:1 Cinemascope AR of most modern movies. All the other (lesser) AR's would fit inside that with black bars on the sides only, to mask the picture to each particular AR size (2.0:1 to 1.33:1). All would therefore be 'constant (same) height' just like in a real theatre. NO MORE 'black bar compromises' top and bottom! You would then have the 'theatre experience' in the palm of your hand! It would be---and look--- awesome!

The touchscreen would be for iPod control only. Leave the web and the other stuff to the touch. You would be able to call up 1) the same controls as on the current touch, or 2) to be really 'retro' (classic!), a virtual clickwheel as many of the patents of the past few years have illustrated. Maybe some small physical buttons on the sides for 'blind-in-pocket' volume control, etc. All this would set the new classic apart from the touch and the iPhone.

The case would measure 2 3/8 x 5 3/16 with the same bezel width currently on the 5G and 6G (classic). The whole front would be screen; no need for a 'home button'. That's the same size as the iPhone 3G, except ONLY 11/16 inch longer! Still easily pocketable. Or, they could roll all this into the touch (but ONLY if they boost the capacity!) The big things here are the 'Scope screen and Bluetooth, both sorely needed in my opinion.

But what's already designed (and built?) will come. Just hope it's along these lines. If not this time, maybe next!

:D

Thanks for the big laugh....
Really? Maybe you forgot about the iTMS experiment of selling music online which started on Mac OS X in the US market. It was outselling other download services based on the windows media format DRM scheme even though it was only for the mac and only in the US market.

It took the release of iTunes for Windows to ignite interest among PC users to "pay" for music downloads instead of using one of the many file sharing networks/programs available for windows.

Piracy is rampant on the PC. I used to be a PC user.

of course it can be built! who said the click wheal is curved? :) sure from that pic it seems to, but it could easily be flat, or this could only be a mock-up, who knows! although the front radius is wide and you problably won't notice while moving around the wheal! the headphone jack will be in the same place has the previous gen! duh! it won't be hard to hold and it will be even easier to catch and grab from a table, 'cause of the tappered edges. my only concern is about the display, specially the shadows made by the gap between the "capsule" and the screen!

apple, bring the new nanos out! ;)

I am posting from my iPhone, so I can't post my concept directly here, but if you check out my blog, Mac Soda (macsoda.com), and scroll down a post, you can see my concept for an iTunes 8.0 Feature: Mixes.

This can already be accomplished using smart playlists.

Okay, but demanding that someone supply you with two examples of what they say comes off like you're questioning their honesty. No harm done, but that's just how it looks. :)

And honestly, I'm not sure if anyone has ever keep count of the number of times Apple has done take-down notices for images, but I've seen it. There is usually a great deal of rejoicing too as it tends to lend credibility to the image.

Anyway, here's an example. You can no doubt find others.

EDIT: Ah... look at this. An example right here on MacRumors...

I co-sign.
When I first saw the Zune it was so obviously that Apple influenced the design. As for the iPod looking like a Zune PSSHH! Apple had the look first.
