I read only the first two pages, so I don't know if this has been posted already.

If you look ahead on the calendar, the free iPod with Mac promotion ends on the 15th of September. That's a Monday.

Seeing as how Apple tends to release new products on Tuesdays, it's very possible to see iTunes 8 and the new iPods on that date.

Or on any date in the near future. We all know that it's coming, knowing what to expect is the hard part.

So what's the possibility of Apple producing a FW800 external Blu-Ray drive for movie watchin' and data archiving?

Slim to none?

Sigh.

Very slim. Unless Apple replaces all the FW400 ports on consumer machines with FW800. Which isn't a bad thing, but I doubt that will happen.

I don't think I'm following the logic or desire for Blu-Ray on a laptop. Why is everyone pitching a tent about blue-ray? I can not see why this is such a great idea unless you are watching it on a 17" and or higher display? Am I missing something here?

Yes, you are missing something - I want to watch my library of BD movies when I'm on the road!

Why should I have to transcode a disc to watch it on an Apple, when other companies will sell me a laptop with a BD dri

I'm sure this has already been asked, but will there be an accelerometer in this new nano?

If the picture is real, I see where Apple was trying to go with the design. They wanted a large screen (for video) in a "nano"-sized package. Also, they presumably wanted to bring back the bigger click wheel. But, why the curved shell? Maybe simply because it's new and different from the more rectangular earlier generations. Maybe its because it gives the iPod a "slim" look and feel (like the edges of the MBA). Or, maybe its easier on the hands?

Still, I wonder how sharp the vertical side edges of this nano actually are. Similarly, how curved are the front and back of the device? Is it a full arc or is it partially flat, like with the iPhone 3g? Either way, I think this case was a poor design choice.

so i guess to watch videos on the new nano you will have to turn it sidewaysm, just like the iPhone/ iPod touch, because the screen is longer sideways.

:apple:

Fry's here has 32GB Touch advertised.. and upgrade option from 8 and 16gb look like.. 479.99

Also available in:
16GB TOUCH UPGRADE
8GB TOUCH UPGRADE

You sir, have a awesome imagination.
Most of them are not very likely but still nice to imagine.
Thanks. I like to think oputside of the box and not whats already offered.

Many people want to watch their movies while on the road. Only problem is in my opinion the display should be at least 16" or 18" as those will be in the 16:9 format.

Theres a lot of life you may not get but a lot of others do.

Before we get back in to the 16:9 arguments the resolution can be changed to fit the 16:9 formatt.

I think he's missing some specifics for this September surprise if Apple was to be believed during their conference call. This is pretty much standard refresh.

I want it bulit in to, NOt external. I wont spend 1999 and another 100 on a dumb external opical drive when i could get it bulit in. I dont see everyone else doing the MBA formatt with the wireless drive thing. Steve, may be in 2015 but not 2008

standard refresh? WEll you know drop the price a bit, touch up the Touch, put a widescreen on the Nano, 2.1 software for the Touch, ...

These are all run of the mill upgrades.

iTunes 8.0 is great, but what's 8.0 going to do for us? He's short on specifics as I said.

Imo Apple hinted at something bigger in their conference call than what's in the original post.

I think they add something new to the iPod line that wasn't there before. Either in the iPods themselves or a new model like a large screen iPod touch. Or they add something new to the laptop line.

That's what is missing from the predictions in the original post.

I like it. Its fresh and new. People are scared of change get used to it this life. People said the same thing about the current nanos.

Now you say you think something bigger will happen. Now that's not really a "standard refresh" now is it?

it is ridiculous that Apple isn't supporting Blu-Ray yet. i want to be able to use my blu-ray movies on my laptop when traveling.

and i want to be able to playback on my computer desktop.

but... apple doesn't have it. and they do not seem to be in a hurry to start supporting it.

very few people care about BRD, in fact if it wasn't for ps3 it would be deader than hddvd.

Wouldn't a half size iPod Touch be great, without the internet stuff?
That's what I want. Prices for the new Nano stay the same. A bump in memory would be nice too.

I don't know about all this. I think touchscreen and accelerometer are the future of all iPods. I don't see the click-wheel being around for much longer. It seems dated now. Maybe a higher capacity HDD touchscreen iPod and Nano? The App store is gonna make a huge profit for Apple. So I'm sure they wanna be able to incorporate that with all their products eventually.

When will iTunes become JUST for 'tunes' ?? Its bloated, ram hogging CRAP, and not all of us have or even want an ipod, iphone, itouch, itv, etc.

Can they just just release an mp3 ONLY application?

If you don't want all those extra features from iTunes, but rather a simple smooth looking resource efficient player, try SongBird for Mac

I must say I really like the interface of it!!

The new iPod nano is a bit "meh" but then again blurry photos arn't great for judging products. ;)

I'm most looking forward to iTunes 8. 7 is a bit bloated and sluggish and I hope they rewrite it into Cocoa. Make it faster on Windows too and I'll be happy.

click here for a better idea what the ipod nano will look like(especially it's size), instead of a blurry picture,

The large storage capacity that some of us need for transferring files. I'm thinking of the raw file sizes produced by Final Cut

You'd choose a Blu-Ray disc over a FireWire portable hard drive?

Yes... discs cost a couple of £ and are much more portable. A removable HD costs much more, is chunkier, and would be prone to damage if I put it in my bag for transport.

Although I see your point... higher capacity etc. I just want to see Blu-Ray in the next revision of Apple's computers. Its just like video conferencing on a mobile. You may never use it, but you'll still buy it for the feature
