I mean come on, who is this guy in the video? Does he work for Apple? No because he would be fired and sued if it was true first of all. Who are these mysterious "sources" he speaks of?

Kevin Rose knows a lot of people from Apple (translation: drinking buddies). That's where he gets his info, friends (probably drunk at the time) tell him stuff and he leaks it secondhand without revealing who said it. He's been doing this all the way back since he was on The Screen Savers.

anyone else getting sick of checking for updates and seeing the nano picture on the front page everytime? to me, it's an ugly update if they do it. regardless, the picture quality of the image is terrible and it's just annoying me every time. can't someone make up a new rumor about the iphone or imac or macbook air and include a picture that looks decent to bump this current one down a notch?! :D

wow, some of thoswe points have no bassis, you made some of that up, im not saying that microsoft is a great company, but geez, you gotta rember there are thousands of people working there, area all of them evil? geez, MS isnt THAT bad
-maclover

Really. What did I make up? Considering my cousin worked for MS I have first hand account. And who said the people working for them are evil? I didn't So again what did I make up? Who are your sources? How many people do you that worked there?

And I worked for Apple. One the best jobs I have ever had was with Apple. They do more for their employees than most companys. Why am I not there now? Well I work in D.C now under another famous company. So have you thought of YOUR sources yet? We're all waiting

This sounds like he has a good track record with iPod related things. I would expect to see this stuff on the market. However, the iPod nano looks too much like a fake for me. I don't think Apple could market that large of a product unless it had a 32 gig drive inside.

With Apple's trend of overlooking the Macbook Pro and focusing on the Macbook all the time, maybe this time around when they issue all the revisions, they will actually downgrade the Macbook Pro's processor, Hard Drive, and Graphics just to say "F_ck you!" that much better. Their advertising for the new macbook semi-pro laptop will say ... "Could be worse...you could of bought a mac mini" and then show the same old mac mini sitting in a corner of an all white room dented and crying. Oh they could play a coldplay or some other trendy song in the background.

omg, this product is really not THAT BIG it's skinnier than the current nano but it's just a tad bit

Right. I guess you were rooting for HD-DVD in the format war. Blu-ray is the future. Not everyone has a ten million terabyte hard drive or access to a uncapped, extremely fast broadband internet connection for HD digital file distribution to be the future. I prefer to have hard copies of everything, and that's not just because I can't get high speed internet. My hard drive is cluttered enough as is without hundreds of gigabytes - or, in the future, terabytes of video that can be easily stored on DVDs and/or blu-ray discs. I really hope Apple brings native blu-ray support to the Mac.

I would prefer to spend my money on a Drobo than waste cash on over-priced DVDs.

The original author seems to be almost credible until he added blu-ray at the end, knowing that it will get some traction among readers. But I would side with other poster: blu-ray drive have like zero chance to be supported. If you needed it so badly for the purpose you mentioned just get an external one and Toast your $30 a pop donuts.
I wasn't implying really that was it needed immediately. Right now DVD is fine. I've never touched a blank blu-ray disc and just use it for movies right now but in the future when it becomes cheaper and DVDs begin to phase out a big, I think it's a necessity for Apple to include an internal blu-ray drive.

I guess I'm the only person who's thinking that this nano would be terrible for the simple fact that using a curved clickwheel would be incredibly annoying. Think about it! Your thumb has to move around in the strangest way... not to mention, can that even be built? Outside of that, the stupid thing is like 5:1 If you hold the iPod there is like no room at all to even grip it to use the clickwheel....
The clickwheel part of the iPod nano could be flat and the display part could be curved.

BECAUSE IT HAS A CLICK WHEEL:rolleyes: GEEZ! DOSENT TAKE A ROCKET SCIENTIST
Apple had a patent that showed an iPod with both a click wheel and a touchscreen. But in that case, the click wheel was on the reverse side.

With Apple's trend of overlooking the Macbook Pro and focusing on the Macbook all the time, maybe this time around when they issue all the revisions, they will actually downgrade the Macbook Pro's processor, Hard Drive, and Graphics just to say "F_ck you!" that much better.
This is not improbable.

The iMac is Apple's "front-and-center" desktop, not the Mac Pro. The iMac has occupied price points that the low-end Power Mac used to have, and the Power Mac / Mac Pro has moved up in price. So the iMac-Mac Pro gap has gotten bigger. The same could happen with the MacBook and the MacBook Pro ($1199/$1499/$1799, $2299/$2799).

But if we consider the case where this doesn't happen, and the MacBook Pro actually goes down in price and moves closer to the MacBook…

We could see 25 W CPUs (tops out at 2.53 GHz instead of the current 2.6 GHz) and low-end GPUs in the 15" (current GPUs are midrange). So in effect, only the 17" is comparable to the current MacBook Pros, and the 15" is some kind of MacBook "Semi-Pro." I'm sure the 15" will be cheaper though ($1799/$2299).

I'm hoping the new touch has GPS. But if it's cheaper I'm not counting on it.

Time to sell all those touches on ebay! 8GB is reaching $250. This will look high in a few weeks, when 16GB of the new models are $150. (Just a guess).

When will iTunes become JUST for 'tunes' ?? Its bloated, ram hogging CRAP, and not all of us have or even want an ipod, iphone, itouch, itv, etc.

Can they just just release an mp3 ONLY application?

You can add the cpu-power that it uses. I remember that on my previous Powerbook G4 550MHz the cpu fan never hit 'tornado-mode' when iTunes was the only app running. Sometime later when Panther came out, iTunes started to become more and more bloated and cpu-power consuming - the cpufan always at max. Even now, with a 1GHz G4. Ridiculous.

Its almost Windows-like: all components are loaded (and running?), necessary or not.

If there were an app like XSlimmer to remove all components for iPhones, iPod video etc... I would buy it.

I co-sign.
When I first saw the Zune it was so obviously that Apple influenced the design. As for the iPod looking like a Zune PSSHH! Apple had the look first.

Yeah, the Zune did definitely take design features from the iPod. When I first tried the Zune, it reminded me so much of the iPod that I used its "touchpad" like a clickwheel (circular motion).

Thanks for the background info. So basically he's an ass who betrays his friends trust while they are in a compromised state?

RSS is where it's at, buddy.

Also: I'm hoping for the touch at a price point of $199 or below. I believe someone (Not Kevin) predicted the same on AppleInsider. Here's hoping. Need something new to replace the Nano with.

I could be wrong, but I highly doubt Apple will be shipping iPods with user-replaceable batteries any time soon. It just is not in keeping with Apple's industrial design tradition. (Neither are changeable faceplates.) I also highly doubt that the new iPod touch will include a camera; the whole reason for lowering the price of the touch would be to keep it well separated from the iPhone in the product line. Adding a camera would further blur the distinction between the two devices and would cause them to cannibalize sales.

And as for the OP, wouldn't the curved screen cover on this nano cause serious distortion of images? :-/

Well, after just recently getting scammed out of an iPod Touch on eBay, I'm rather pleased to hear that a new iPod Touch is on the way and at a lower price point. Now I just hope that I have all of my money back by that point.

I read only the first two pages, so I don't know if this has been posted already.

If you look ahead on the calendar, the free iPod with Mac promotion ends on the 15th of September. That's a Monday.

Seeing as how Apple tends to release new products on Tuesdays, it's very possible to see iTunes 8 and the new iPods on that date.

So what's the possibility of Apple producing a FW800 external Blu-Ray drive for movie watchin' and data archiving?

Slim to none?

Sigh.
