Are you talking about the windows version? iTunes on my iMac is only using 32mb of ram after running all day. I only have a 10gb library, and a few playlists, but I dont know if that really effects the ram usage much.

I can tell you that on my last revision mac mini g4 that movies play a lot better in quicktime than they do through iTunes. As to his specific hang up not sure, maybe he doesn't like looking at all the features he doesn't need?

I say any updates are a few weeks away. The earliest that we'll see iPod refreshes will be in the first or second week of September.

The new Nano will be just like the 3rd gen. but have a screen 2x the size and no wheel - it will have touch controls. Like a mini iPod Touch. 8GB only at first. I know this the same way everyone else does - I'm guessing...

that's complete bs, the nano has only 4gb and 8gb options, and the touch starts off with 8gb option, thers no point in buying a 8g mini touch if i can get a full touch for 8g, the only thing you pay for is a smaller form factor which would be difficult to use with touch controls.

and the size of a 3rd gen nano x2 is basically the size of a touch.......sooo, why would they make a ipod identical to the touch, name it differently a sell it for a cheaper price?

and why are ppl so eager for the click wheel to go away, i like the click wheel.

EDIT:sorry, but even if the SCREEN is larger(not the product) you still have to count the single button, and a bezel around it, and what do we have............ itouch that is SLIGHTLY smaller, by like a centimeter

I'm glad you're not the one who designs iPods then.

how do we know there wasn't even a prototype iPhone w/ front facing camera? he might have been right... just too early before :apple: finalized the 3G?

Exactly. Same for video conferencing.... that leaked photoof the video conferencing may be true it just had problems so we will have to wait another year or 6 months or what ever

very few people care about BRD, in fact if it wasn't for ps3 it would be deader than hddvd.

That may be true on computers, but a lot care for it as a external box for the TV.,

HD-DVD is already dead. Blu-ray already won the formatt war and will become the new standard the next few years,,,

Blu-ray runs on more then the PS3. PS3 is made by sony, same guys who make blu-ray.

We have a 1399 Sony Blu-Ray player (the highest end model) hooked up to our 65" DLP TV and man i truly see and hear the diference...

Yep. The classic is the iPod, in my opinion. If you just want to get an iPod to listen to music, like most do, the classic is the best choice. I prefer to navigate through the music menus through physical buttons, as it just feels better and I can usually find what I want quicker. Furthermore, one thing that always annoys me on the touch is that in cover flow, if you want to get to an artist, you have to flick your finger like a maniac, only to go right past the one you wanted. With the classic and the nano you simply move your finger in a circle, and it's one continuous movement, meaning you can scrol thorugh albums quicker.

However, don't get me wrong, the touch is a great device for apps etc.

As for the pictured nano, I don't think it's legit. At least, I hope it's not. I don't like the idea of the whole iPod being rounded. If Apple is going to do any rounding, they'll do it to the back of the iPod, but not to the front. (like the iPhone)

I perfer the touch because the things you can do such as get on line, app support, itunes wi-fi music store (only wish you can download and preview videos and podcasts to). I agree the touch needs a facelift. and possable a 64GB verson along with a price drop.

BTW, I've seen the iphones and it seems the color, contrast and brightess are diferent then the touch. (better on the iphone) could it be just the model i got ot is it totally different? If so, I hope the touch gets the same screen res. as the iphone

I think the 'new' nano looks awesesome. Should the iTunes thing hold true... can't wait for the updates. Skinnable interface anyone?

Not just for itunes but for the ipods. I want to chose my own background for the touch along with skins. "Premium" skins can be bought from itunes for 99 cents.

I agree with the nano,. people said the same thing about the fat nano. you can never please anyone

This Tuesday, anyone?

There is no way Apple can please anyone with the time it has left in 2008.

Apple will not upgrade the whole iPod lineup and the whole computer lineup all at once!

So yes, some people will be pleased, but the majority who didn't get what they wanted will be disappointed. MWSF is coming soon though...

whos to say they wont "upgrade" everything at once?

and "apple cant please everyone" hence why it wont be this tuesday. This will be a planned event.....

Yes, it is complete bs, but would be what I want. ...same reason Apple doesn't still have a 1GB or 2GB Nano - I don't think the 8GB Touch will be around forever - I bet it goes away this redesign...but that's just my guess.

yes but the demention that are expected are already about the size of the current touch, all your asking for is just a cheaper low end ipod touch

What I think...

I think that sometime in the near future, all iPods will be equal, they will all be like the iPod touch, why, because Apple knows that if they did this, more iPods would be bought, and more apps will be purchased. Apple will then have a radio service like pandora, and once you hear a song you like, its a click away from owning. And, wireless syncing will become a huge priority.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the touch size/interface takes over the whole line within 2 years with a giant spread of sizes - 8gb, 16gb with wifi, 32gb, 64 gb, then classics with hard drives above 120gb.

The 'touch' interface will get cheaper and cheaper to make since they are selling millions per year already. All they need do is make it price accessible at a lower range, possibly by taking out wifi/apps for a nano range of iPods under $200.

The silly little shuffles should really be under $25. How much further can you expand those before they become too clunky to use? Shuffling through 4000 songs is NOT fun. It should settle very cheaply as a bone for the kids, ushering people into Apple products and functionality.

I'd definitely buy that nano. Especially if it was the aluminum with black click wheel like the photo. Would go nicely with the soon the be released notebook redesigns :)

The apps will be the very reason apple pushes this type of business model, they can take the loses, because its an investment, they know that they will get money back in apps. And, the more people using the device, the more people writing code, the more apps that the consumer will want to buy. If they removed wifi, it would remove to many features, and would block the main way for apple to sell apps.

I hate the shuffle, however, if it shuffled in an intelligent way, I wouldn't mind listening to 4000 songs in shuffle.

I personally think that the first-generation iPod nano had the best design. If this picture is real, than the nano has really gone downhill looks-wise since then.

I agree 100%.

The first gen iPod Nanos are the best looking Nano.
Although the glossy case showed fingerprints, and scratches way more than the newer aluminum cases, You just can't beat shiney! :D

Our households iPods, ranked in my own opinion of sexyness:

1) 1st gen iPod Nano (black) 1gb
2) iPod "Classic" (black) 80gb (the first video ipods after they introduced the name "Classic"..not sure what gen to call it)
3) 2nd gen iPod Shuffle (silver) 1gb (we have two, mine and my moms she got for buying a newspaper subscription)

ironically, I use the shuffle most frequently. :)
I only use the Classic for the new games, and watching movies on long car trips.
The nano is now used as eye candy. :)

its imposable for them to take it down as its already on the net, already downloaded by people and already spread over a lot of websites so just because the main site that leaked it took them down doesnt mean its gone from the net for good.

what about those leaked "fat nanos" were those shots asked to be taken down. if so, then this may just as well it takes time and doesnt happen over night

That thing looks like quasi-futuristic crap. If curved screens were so good, why are they extinct? Why would Apple step backwards?
As far as body, why would Apple give a nano curvature, and limit it to the horizontal? The 3G, the Air, and the leaked, upcoming MacBooks, all have curvature in both directions. If this were for sale at a kiosk in Chinatown, I would giggle. Tell some people Apple is making this fugly turd, and people flex their Mastercards.
Get real!

Just as long as they keep the classic. I have crap loads of songs and if I have to f****g settle for a damn ipod touch with only 32 gb ill never buy another apple side product again. I hate the touch. the nano isnt big enough storage. the current nano looks like someone took the 1st gen nano and smashed it down to make it a mini block.

now if apple could offer bluray drives for my imac and mac pro it would be nice.

I would also like the possibility of a 80, 160, and maybe 250gb ipod "classic"

From Engadget:

If the screen is flat, I think that would be sexy. Fit in the palm very nice.
