Anyone remember how fast the SE felt on launch year, because it was running the 6S chipset at a lower resolution, and in doing so felt even more fluid than the flagships?

A13 on 750P? Holy overkill batman! Though at that point, an interim resolution bump even to 900p or so would be appreciated, as the SoC is well overkill at that point and the GPU powers higher resolutions with still stellar bettery life.
They'll be downclocking the A13 and/or disabling cores almost certainly.

The original iPhone launched at $499 13 years ago. After more than a decade and exponential growth beyond imagination, the "low cost" iPhone is $399. On the plus side, it comes with an A13 chip and maybe some other real nice hardware...but why? I know several people (of different ages and situations) that can't afford a $400 smartphone. If Apple were to sell one that was $159 or $199, that's something they could afford.

Yes, I'm aware there are older models in this price range if you shop around and do your due diligence and possibly sign up for contracts.
Apple is not going to sell an unlocked iPhone that’s cheaper than a pair of AirPods. Heck, they just announced a Magic Keyboard Accessory for iPad Pro that costs as much as an iPad 7.

I so want this! I love the size of my SE, and the Touch ID, but the battery life has been awful, the screen seems just a bit too small when used with modern apps that assume a larger screen size, and I'm sad that the camera isn't anywhere near as good as the Xs that I stopped using.

Yeah, I get that this "new" phone may be nothing more than an 8s with a cheap price tag, but I can live with that.

I find it funny that car manufacture's, and computer giants, are still trying at some level to operate like people are ready to spend money. Guys. It's done. There's close to 10 million out of work. No one is spending a dime until there is some sign of positive change. I mean, yes, there are still people out there fully capable of dropping coin on gadgets and cars. Those are in the minority right now. If you even have 6 months of savings, spending it on anything but needed life supplies is just too risky right now. Apple should join others and start making ventilators. iVent "It's magically breath giving."

Might replace my 7 with it. I want a tactile home button. Like the size in my pocket.

Couldnt Disagree with you more. Many people are at home. If you live in a big metropolitan area, this must seem like the world is ending, but it isn’t. Besides a few more days at home from work and staying home, I don’t see much of any change Where I’m at. (I understand I’m lucky for now, but it’s true) We are enduring and doing our best to distance. But...We don’t need to freeze in panic because you or even a group of people feel offended a company would dare release a phone in these “uncertain“ times. Can’t afford it? Don’t buy it. Don’t ruin it for everyone who may like it. And I think it’s a perfect time for a cheaper option.
You have no clue what its going to be like in the next 12 months.....we haven't lived through something like this in our lifetime or even the last 100 years. We are on new ground and Until there is a vaccine.....nothing will be the same as it use to be. That's simple logic. Save your money until you can truly see how we adapt in the next 6 months. Unlike 9/11 where we move on after a few months.....this will be around for at least another year minimum.

if its same as iphone 8 then apple is bothered to rename same hardware (kinda)

I mean the iPhone 11 is only like 850p or something like that.

With all that's been going on in the world lately, it would take some serious cojones to release a new phone, seeing as people are losing their jobs left, right and center....ending up in the hospital or worse. We are in the midst of the worst global catastrophe of our lifetimes, I think launching a new iPhone at this current time would be seen as poor taste.

Releasing a low cost phone is not only not in poor taste but it can be seen as supportive in the current situation, ideal for people with less money to spend. It really couldn’t have come at a better time.

I’ve been personally financially hit hard and I’m taking extra good care of my iPhone X because if it stopped working, I would be hard pressed to spend $1K right now on a replacement. While reverting to a home button wouldn’t be desirable for me, a $399 temporary replacement is far more palatable.

Apple may be better served to hold off for a least a couple more months (July, perhaps?).
then people will complain that their iPhone SE is suddenly outdated with the A14 iPhones of October.

I disagree.

- This is a less expensive phone, it's great for people who need a new phone but don't have a lot of cash to spend right now.
- Apple releasing an iPhone is something that happens regularly when times are normal, and will be comforting to see. "Oh, at least some normal things are still happening."
- There's a lot of financial uncertainty on the market right now. Apple releasing a product will show people they're still functioning and calm some investors.

This is all good; let it happen. It may not sell as well as it would otherwise, but it's nice to see a new product come out during these rough times.

By the way, I wonder if it’s worth it for an iPhone 8 user. I’m pretty happy with my iPhone 8 but maybe it will have shorter battery life when I update it to iOS 13. Aside from that, I’m happy with it.

But having more RAM and a 7nm processor is appealing

fellow iPhone 8 user here. No battery life issues from iOS 12:13 on mine which I’ve owned since launch month.

more ram would be nice but which apps singularly or in combination would really use it?

With all these Arguments about the Coronavirus and that nobody's gonna buy it:
What should Apple do? They obviously finished engineering it, they started producing parts for it some time ago, I assume the devices are actually already being assembled and ready to ship very soon. It would not be economically wise to just stockpile them for a year until there is a vaccine. I guess that they might produce it in much lower numbers than they originally planned to, but if they can still sell a reasonable percentage of the original plan, its better than not releasing it for Apple.
Plus, it's a lower end model, so people with phones that need to be replaced might still buy it.

I think the summer/fall release of an iPhone 12 will probably be delayed, they might skip that release, as parts probably have not been produced yet.

Even more reason to let companies release items. If you truly think this will be the same level as it is right now next year... No, they can’t put the brakes on for a year. Yes, people still need products. No, not everyone needs to store up their acorns for the next year. I prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I’m prepared, but, as a result, I’m not panicking.

I could be wrong but my bet is that we will be leveling out (flattening the curve) before the end of April. And working to recover for another 3-6 months after which our testing will pick up. The market will lag behind but the workforce will be slowly released as a result of better testing and more information. Save my post. Compare them in a year if you’d like. I hope we’re both wrong.

you mean the ‘haptic home’ button. But yes, that’s a nice little nuanced feature that gives the user the feedback of what action was invoked. That was probably my favorite feature with the iPhone 7. [Aside from the stereo speakers.]

I want 3D Touch to return yet it’s screwed up on my iPhone 8. I’m worried you may have a similar issue.
PS: there is no tactile home button since the iPhone 6S; it’s haptics on the 7 and 8 (both plus models too).

If I didn't already have a iPhone 8 as my backup/travel phone, I would probably be all over this release. I really like the smaller form factor at times.

I still may be interested, depending upon price and features.

I see no need for new iphone My stupid iPhone 6s has saved the day so many times. No Dongle or bluetooth connection at wedding party . I do live gigs with djs and bands if you don't have a wifi connection your streaming playlists won't work. It happens more than you know. I guess I could upgrade and just carry 2 phones. One for music and 0ne for phone.

Keep the same form factor as the original SE (dedicated home button, headphone jack, and size). Just update the guts.
Else it becomes just another phablet. The phablet crowd have lots of choices. We who love the "classic" iPhone form factor, have only the old SE.
Friend of mine was visiting me a couple of week ago. I have had a chance to get hands on experience on iphone 8. I have had this generation previously, but my hand forgot that feeling. Overall i have an Iphone Se, and i can say it is good with case. Iphone 8 size is good on its own and also good in the case.
There is no need actually to upgrade old Iphone SE, since my se has no lags at all, and only lacks battery health.
So for all of SE users, it might make more sense just to renew battery at apple store for $89. That is it.
Oh yeah, and camera is not good as in the last models, and it is not best, like long time ago, when it had 6s flagman camera in a cheap phone.
