Someone please tell me why Apple going with Skylake is better than jumping directly to Kaby Lake. I assume they will use a more powerful version than what's out for the Kaby Lake CPUs at the moment.

For low to mid end MacBooks it is not important which generation of modern ultra fast CPU will be used.

Sky ****ing lake??? Like really apple?
Again: why not? Processor speed is no bottle neck to most users.

Intel has 6, 8, and 10 core processors. But these are top end enthusiast processors that the general public wouldn't want to pay for. And I don't think Apple cares about these processors as they would make their computers much more expensive. Quite frankly we're lucky they give us 4 core processors as I'm sure they'd rather just give us 2 core and be done with it. I'm sure once the cost of manufacturing these drops to a reasonable rate we will see them. Then again maybe we won't since Apple uses multi core Xenon processors in the Mac Pro line. In other words even if the price comes down enough I don't believe Apple will use these 6, 8, and 10 core processors.
Yep, they make them for the 2011 socket enthusiast line, which proves they can make them, and could put them in their 1151 socket consumer line. The issue isn't with Apple so much, as with Intel. Apple have always used top end, or at least close to top end CPUs in their computers. But if they don't exist, they can't.

As to the second part, quite frankly if Apple don't continue to offer the fastest CPUs, I'm not buying their stuff. And I expect a lot of others would dump them too.

If you don't mind the extra heat and noise...

I do mind, but that doesn't change the fact that at this moment the iMac 5Kmodel outperformed the current macpro model in certain areas.

Don't get me wrong, i'm looking forward for the new mac pro, but IF apple discontinues the "pro" line-up entirely then I might think about alternatives. For now it's just speculation.

To hell with most users. The MacBook Pro (esp. the 15" variant) is NOT MEANT FOR MOST USERS. Tim Cook has nerfed the entire Apple portfolio to cater to the low end mass. I'm frankly scared of what disaster his courageous "operational excellence" will spell for the Mac now :(

I agree, obviously we will have to find new ways to accomplish our tasks, so we can't exclude any option available...

'Most users' should be getting the MacBook.
According to Apple most users should go with an iPad.:(

Valid point, the pro line of products should always be kept up to date. Clearly Cooky hasn't made it a priority.

Hopefully we don't see any more iPhone 5C type products and get some solid updates over the coming 12 months.

The entire Mac lineup should be ready by now!
What have they been doing? Building a car or something??!

Hey, watch straps don't design themselves you know.
You have to focus on what's important you know.

Meh Skylake isn't that far behind KabyLake, it's next year that we get a die shrink and some probable big improvements. The biggest challange next year is what replaces the graphics component of iris pro

Ever since Apple came out with the iPhone they have neglected updates to their computers and displays. It's unreal. They don't even release many updates or versions for software either.

they lost me at 'keyboard will have same butterfly design as on the macbook.'

SHAME!

Agreed. that will kill the product line for those of use who use a laptop for work. Nobody every complained about too much key travel, but plenty complain about not enough key travel. The problem is the rest of the industry blindly follow Apple and also end up making **** products.

Apple needs a new CEO.
Apple needs to put more focus on Macs rather than changing the world with prides, FBI's, political or celebrity ********.
Apple needs not to lost its PRO users.
Apple needs to simplify its product line. (Kill that joke Macbook Air for good, just Macbook, Macbook Pro, iMac, Mac Pro).
Apple needs to stop taking massive margins on stuff like RAM or SSD upgrades.
Apple needs to kill iPad Mini, like seriously...
And many more things to do...

Yep, I'm with you. I'm getting either this new MBP or last year's MBP. One major deciding factor is the keyboard: If its the butterfly one, I'm gonna pass this years model. Coming from 2010 MBP I feel like the butterfly keyboard is too drastic of a change, many people have stated that they could not get used to it. So for me 2015 MBP is more suitable choice, I know the keys are different and do have less travel but they are not as bad as the new butterfly keys.

Are there reasonable gains to be made from the PC market? I don't think so, I don't think Apple does either, not compared to wearables and mobile devices. Hence their focus hasn't really been with the Mac.

The size of the PC/Mac market is large enough for companies to make a lot of money is it not?

Worst case scenario, if you neglect the Mac market, what will people develop on? I guess before it gets to that, OSX and IOS might have merged by then and you will be able to develop on those machines instead. Probably something akin to a surface pro.

I thought it was the one-button mouse.
That, for experienced users, had to be up there with one of the dumbest ideas ever. They are not even ergonomic.

Big companies like this have to do politics and FBI's(!) - Celebrity comes with popularity ( oh and the music business ) - Pride because it they can
Well given everyone that makes stuff for the Apps store is a Pro user and their are more and more of them everyday... But do agree they need some powerful machines ( New 16-24 core Pro please )
Why? They have a way simpler product line than anyone else - Macbook Air sells pretty well
Agree that Hardware jumps are a lot - but it's down to supply and demand - Bumps on PC laptops etc are also expensive
Again where is your reason for this. I know at least 50 people that love the mini and use them daily
Gibberish.

Can we definitively say, based on the available data, that Apple's product release cycles have slowed down to a crawl relative to five - ten years ago?
Of course, the whole industry did.
Performance jumps are not that big these days. A 2010 MacBook with ssd upgrade is still more than fast enough for most users.

And many more things to do...
Apple needs backlit keyboards for desktops.
Apple needs a monitor.
Apple needs top-end/latest processors.
Apple needs to correct their horrible iTunes software.
Apple needs to have yearly refresh cycles, whatever the updates.
Apple's 15%of the market in PCs could be 20%+ if they kept a conscious presence in the market.
Apple needs to run all operations as if they are the most important aspect of the company.

firmly believe it's going to happen one day, I'm sure Apple already have a version of macOS running on it in one of their labs. It's just a matter of when, not if.
I've read that the risks would be high to develop your own desktop class chips for such a low volume per year (19 million macs)

And what would I buy my kids if Apple didn't lower the price of the iPad to compensate for the loss of the lower price tablet?

It's ok. I share your sympathy for socialism.

My Mac Mini is simply a dongle for iOS.

And it's silly that people still complain about the update cycle for OSX (macOS) products when Apple has long made it clear, via sales figures and releases, it's LOW PRIORITY.

The new norm, for some time, is we get refreshed desktop products every 2-5 years. No surprise. iOS products are dominating sales. For quite a while now. If you're a "Pro" user, why the hell are you still using a Mac?

After reading your post I did a quick search and am shocked how much the MacBook looks like my 2015 13" rMBP http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Apple-MacBook-Pro-13-2010-04-2-66-GHz-Notebook.33236.0.html
it should be interesting what next week rMBP look like. I guess very similar.
