They are rumored to roll out in January 2017. So we waited all year to get end of life CPU and a magical LED strip. Apple has really screwed over mac users.
There's a difference between initial roll-out and volume shipments. Plus the main benefit of Kaby Lake is 4K processing through Quick Sync. Most of the performance changes are because of increases in clock speed and are minor (as Intel has made further optimization to their processes).

I came over to the Apple ecosystem because of the Mac. I am probably going to leave the Apple ecosystem because of the Mac.

Poetic in a way.
Like it or not, most people came to the Apple ecosystem because of the iPhone. That created the iPad market and introduced many to the Mac line.

Announcing skylake macbooks now is pathetic, what they were waiting for? Apple is done with computers, waiting sooo long for skylake? Wow
Exactly. Apple could have done this update 6 months ago and would have been ready for the back to school season. Being they missed this critical event I think there has to be more than an LED strip, skylake CPU's and USB ports to this update.

If they'd updated the rMBPs 6 months ago they couldn't have used Skylake. It didn't become available until June.

ITS BEEN THE SAME COMPUTER SINCE 2012!!!

What?? They're getting rid of the HDMI port!?!?
I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but the unibody MBP before the retina was the same design for 2008-2012, and before that the original MBP was the same design as the aluminum PowerBook G4, which came out in 2003...so four year and five year cycles respectively.

Hope significant under the hood improvements are revealed at a competitive price. Otherwise like Nintendo re-releasing a thinner Super Nintendo for $400 instead of a new console

...and people got pissed that the iphone 7 retained the same design introduced in 2014 :D

First thing I have been excited for in a long time! Just scared of potential price points.

This has me worried too, especially as they just bumped the prices of iPads, Apple Watch, iPhone, and pretty much all accessories in the UK. I was originally eyeing up the top end 15" but might have to settle for the base model now with a few customisations.

How much?

The problem is even the best engineers and production experts cannot take a product released to them in April or May and build a reliable architecture around it for release in October; it's not real world to expect such.

Think about how quickly people smack talk Apple when a new product or OS currently comes out with errors and bugs here on MR. The current iOS, 10, was built probably at least a year before it was released in beta for almost a year and yet look at the bugs which average users have encountered. Now shorten the developement and release process to just a few months and all we will have is a disaster, not a first class machine.
When a console is introduced there are games on it the first day it goes on sale. The way you build an architecture around unreleased chips is the same - working closely with the manufacturer and working with prerelease chips or technology to allow you to release the computer (or game) the second the chip is released. So - this is not the reason as other manufacturers do this all the time. Apple is just being Apple.

I may be crazy from a severe lack of sleep, or just a bit mental in general
But I have an odd feeling that the Mac Pro as we know it is dead, buried in the desert and a coyote has run off with its dangly man bits for breakfast. Ahem, anyway, I can't shake the feeling that the current Mac Pro will be replaced by, wait for it.........

......The new iMac Pro! A seriously beefed out variant of the iMac with dual Xeon processors and massively powerful dedicated graphics. Best of all, not only will there be user access to upgrade the memory, to a total of 128GB this time round. But there will also be a user accessible dual hard drive bay allowing us to easily upgrade our storage at any time.

The iMac Pro will be redesigned to accommodate these changes. The screen will be chinless and edge-to-edge the main guts will be on the back of the screen as a redesigned mini motherboard housing the CPU's and graphics chipsets and so on. Whereas the hard drives and memory will be contained in the base of the device attached to a small daughter board. Which in turn is connected to the motherboard with a cable which runs internally through the base assembly.

The amount of USB 3 ports will be doubled and there will be an additional 6 USB-C ports. For the first time there is going to be a Lightning port on the iMac Pro, allowing the use of headphones sporting the new all digital interface and.......damn, then I woke up :D

Regardless of this being tongue-in-cheek, you may be onto something here. It would definitely explain why the MP hasn't been upgraded in 3 years. Only difference is, I see there being one Xeon processor (6 to 8 cores), dual professional grade GPUs (given the increasing importance graphics power vs CPU power), & 34" 5K wide-color gamut resolution display.

Apple needs a new CEO.
Apple needs to put more focus on Macs rather than changing the world with prides, FBI's, political or celebrity ********.
Apple needs not to lost its PRO users.
Apple needs to simplify its product line. (Kill that joke Macbook Air for good, just Macbook, Macbook Pro, iMac, Mac Pro).
Apple needs to stop taking massive margins on stuff like RAM or SSD upgrades.
Apple needs to kill iPad Mini, like seriously...
And many more things to do...

*Keep dreamin', keep dreamin'....*
I agree with what you said .... except for the Mac mini. They get people into a desktop Mac for under $1000. I still have a 2006 model that had been on all the time as a multimedia tv machine, and it's still running as my mom's computer. That's impressive.

Why should we blame Intel for Apple releasing skylake macbook at the end of 2016??? Look at pc vendors, they are selling notebooks with skylake for ages... **** apple
That is a BS excuse laid upon Intel. I am an engineer and HW dev does not work the way you claim. The systems are being worked in parallel with Intel so when the final CPU hits volume production so does the computer. This is 100% Apple's fault for shipping MacBook Pros 6 months late.

Hehe, poetic yeah, and exactly what I actually have recently done. After switching to Mac about 8 years ago because of their beautiful machines and OSX. Now back to PC because of lack of care on Macs from Apple.

Apple have not done themselves any favours with their annual major OS updates, no "pro" users wants to deal with unstable major software annually . Windows 10 is not a bad OS and it is stable, and that is a big plus. These days I have more issues with my Mac Pro than I have with my windows box.

Case in point my 2013 Mac Pro BT , buggiest implementation I have ever seen and apple did it see the need to fix it, forcing me to go wired . And I was using apple wireless
KB and mouse . Maybe if apple stops treating OS X as a markerting stunt along iOS to sell devices we might go back to having better software than windows....

Once apple release the new machines on Thursday , many good people on here will be able to offer advice if these machines are a good upgrade . Stay tuned .
Thanks for the response...I'll monitor...in a bit of a hurry but not so much of one that a week or 2 will make a huge difference.

What you call lack of care, Apple calls shift in strategy.
