I'm traveling for work at the moment and my gf texted me to ask, "I'm trying to watch Amazon video. How do I get Silverlight?" and I was like, "You don't. Watch it on the iPad and airplay it to the TV". Silverlight. Not even once.

So true, amazon need to implement html5 for amazon prime video as soon as possible. Silverlight is 1970s

I heard a rumor they'll be using it for The Grand Tour. Sounds great if it's true, but not something I'd want to try if I were Amazon and about to broadcast the most anticipated show in the world at this point.

I have a bad feeling that Microsoft's event this week will be more impressive than Apple's.

I am so fed up now i dont even care after more than 1000 days i have lost all hope from Apple, there computers are not upgraded because they are too busy making iPhones every 6 months aor may be that car thingy or whatever ..
I am planning to switch to linux/Windows dual boot on Dell 13 inch Ultrabook with Kaby Lake. Its gaming performance is not bad, i can program in Linux and the frame rates of games in Windows in better than mac, possibly due to better hardware drivers.

I'll give Apple the benefit of the doubt until these units are actually revealed because maybe the new toys will be dynamic, powerful and beautiful...but nothing presented in this rumor and thread would compel anyone to go spend money on them. That the processors are mediocre is not Apple's fault, but overall, it's "More meh now".

Come on Apple.... if they don't pull themselves together, they will be overrun by google in 2-3 years

Are you dreaming for a long time or something? Google had long surpassed Apple, and the trend has no chance to revert.

Thank goodness for that. I'm saved! Now, which Chromebook should I buy to run VMWare and Photoshop on?

I think there's a bit of both, yes.
People are pretty excited about the possibility of new macs especially when we can already see Kaby Lake on the shelves in some top end Windows laptops so some of us might have leapt in :) I think this has been a great thread with lots of great information around Skylake/ Kaby differences etc and some cool usage stories especially around the Mac Pro.

There has been some good discussion. Those laptops with Kaby right now, by definition, are not top end, at least not in the computational power sense.

To be honest, AMD really ought to bring some heat to the game with their Zen processor. It's already common knowledge Intel props their business up to avoid litigation issues. If they do, hopefully Intel stops producing dual core i7s and uses quad core but makes them much more energy efficient for devices or finds a way to turn off unused cores. Currently the process of throttling cores when they're not needed benefits the power consumption process by reducing it, but if the cores were effectively turned off and the remaining throttled for low end use and would open up when required, it should knock down a few watts.

How much?

The problem is even the best engineers and production experts cannot take a product released to them in April or May and build a reliable architecture around it for release in October; it's not real world to expect such.

Think about how quickly people smack talk Apple when a new product or OS currently comes out with errors and bugs here on MR. The current iOS, 10, was built probably at least a year before it was released in beta for almost a year and yet look at the bugs which average users have encountered. Now shorten the developement and release process to just a few months and all we will have is a disaster, not a first class machine.

Exactly what I actually have recently done. After switching to Mac about 8 years ago because of their beautiful machines and OSX. Now back to PC because of lack of care on Macs from Apple.

13-inch MacBook Pro (Mid 2010)
— Vintage hardware that shipped with Snow Leopard

And was easily Upgradeable to:
• Lion
• Mountain Lion
• Mavericks
• Yosemite
• El Capitain
• Sierra

I'm feeling so neglected, (not at all).

Back when Apple introduced Snow Leopard to the public, Bertrand Serlet trashed Windows 7 as just another Vista. Which may come as a surprise to most Windows users, who regard 7 as the best release ever. In fact the community is fighting hard against forced unwanted Windows 10 installations. Half of the world wouldn't want a new Windows even if it is for free.

I think when apple Cupertino have settled in their new HQ we will see exciting new products with more frequency.
I agree here. The company is a bit of a lame duck until it has made the transition to the mothership.

Apple is as big as ever and has a massive new facility to transition the entire company to. The scale of it is history in the making.

I tried to explain to that some dolt in PRSI a few weeks ago and was told that many people loved Windows 10. I've yet to see a post or article that wasn't paid off or astroturfed by Microsoft to praise their wretched OS.

Public beta started in October 2014 and still they haven't managed to move most of the settings into the new/modern/metro/whateveritscalledthesedays Control Panel. Which control panel is the setting you're looking for in? Who knows! Wheeeeee! That kind of basic disregard for usuability is reflected in every millimeter of the OS. It's truly horrible.

Razer has released a gaming laptop that contains Kabylake CPU good enough for the 13" Macbook pro - or better.

What is it about this that people are not understanding? The fastest Kaby chip that can possibly have is the 15w one. If Apple put a 15w Kabylake in the 13" rMBP it will be slower in general computation than the Haswell part they have now. There is no argument here and nothing you Google or nothing anyone else builds with ULV Kaby will change that. The appropriate chips will not be released until next year
