but lately Apple has made WWDC to be software focused though

they have the rest of the year for other hardware announcements😊
Again, not really.... By lately do you mean 'at the last one'? In 2016 they released zero new hardware products at WWDC... And then in 2017 they announced an updated iMac, an updated MacBook Pro, an updated MacBook, an updated iPad Pro, the entirely new iMac Pro and also the HomePod.

So yeah, in 2020 there was no hardware (well technically there was the announcement that they would be releasing Apple Silicon Macs, though the specific products weren't ready), but in 2019 there was a Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR. WWDC is a fantastic place to debut new Pro hardware when it's ready.

Mark Gurman also said as early as summer, so Prosser is just regurgitating Gurman’s article. My take on Prosser is that he’s full of it.
He has been wrong at times but he's been right about plenty of extremely specific things (iPhone SE launch date and time last year, embargo dates and times for the iMac and iPad this year, a few of the event dates last year). He also predicted colors on iMacs before literally anyone else.

I think it’s entirely possible the 14 and 16” will be launched at WWDC however, a few things are making me doubt it:

1. Only rumours about an M2 are floating around, which surely will be launched after the September iPhone event, as it will likely be based upon the A15 chip.

2. If the M1X is coming to the 14 and 16 wouldn’t apple need to get a developer kit out to the developers first, like they did before the M1?

3. Last years software only online event was nearly 2 hours long with only software announcements, surely it would mean this years WWDC will be about 2.5 hours long if they include hardware.

It will not be “based upon the A15 chip.” It will have the same core microarchitecture as the A15 chip. There is no reason the A15 has to exist before the M2 for that to happen.

Why would M1X (which will never exist, by the way) require a developer kit? It would look the same, to developers, as an M1, other than performance.

And they have many times before introduced hardware at WWDC without requiring 2.5 hour keynotes.

I think Apple is going to make a killing when they release these. No matter the price, they're going to sell like hot cakes. I have an M1 Air, and it's a terrific machine, but I'm definitely going to move up to a MBP when they are released, even if I have to sell blood to pay for it. Really miss my old 2015 MBP--one of the best Macs Apple ever released.

ARM is not really limited in the same way that iOS is. Apple Silicon can run virtually any Intel Mac app and has an open app platform that doesn’t require you to ever use the Mac App Store.
Does this then apply to an M1 iPad Pro?

Really odd choice to bring back HDMI as a port imo.

USB-C, USB-A, SD card.

I wish the industry would quickly adopt USB-C as a standard for video out/in.

What a year. I will be spending more on Apple products this year than I ever have. I’m almost there already!

Definitely got my eye on the rumored 14 inch to replace my current 2017 MBP. Been trying to hold off for as long as I can.

and there will be a redesigned thermal system to accommodate the upgraded Apple silicon chips that the machines are expected to include.
😆

Redesigned as compared to what? As if even a more powerful Apple M-series chip is going to require thermal management beyond what’s necessary/used for the current Intel CPU and AMD GPU combo.

Oh, and...
the 2021 MacBook Pro models will feature an HDMI port and an SD card reader in addition to a trio of Thunderbolt/USB-C ports
…is probably a <1% possibility (as much as some may desire the comeback HDMI and an SD card reader).

My 2016 15” MBP “b“ key just stopped working at all today (i’ve been relying on unshaky.app for months to keep the keyboard working since the space bar, 4 key, b key and v key have all been double- and triple-typing). I feel like I’m limping to the finish line here…

Would like to think Apple is being forward thinking and if the hdmi port is true it's the latest 2.1 port. I guess we'll see here in a few weeks/months!

It won’t happen, WWDC is entirely software focused only

don’t forget he mentioned last year hardware like AirPods max being revealed for WWDC last year and yeah.. software event only Prosser
Definitely you are right. Apple never announced the Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR at WWDC 2019, nor any hardware at any WWDC before that.

I think the 14" will be the hot seller and take sales from the M1 13" MBP. I see the 16" as being more niche.

How can you get work done on that machine? Sounds like it would take twice as long.

External magic keyboard, when necessary. VNC from my ipad and use the ipad magic keyboard or keyboard folio other times.

It was actually working ok with “unshaky” fixing the accidental key repeats, but now it’s gotten to the point where I can’t use the keyboard.

I would have gotten too frustrated with all that. You have more patience than me. I would have bought a used Mac to get me through to the new release.

Man, playing this one close. I have to return to work on the 14th of June which means buying something from an Apple Store on the 13th and maybe new MBPs are shipping before the return policy ends. Wish WWDC was a week later.
I wouldn't count on a MacBook Pro shipping in June at all. Just like the iMacs they were introduced the month before and shipped in mid May. Due to COVID expect shipping to be sometime in July.
