Are we still hoping it's this?:

Anyway it'll go, it'll be a success. ;) :apple:

As I just bought an awesome MBA, and not in need of a MBP, I'll be waiting for my next purchase: MBA 11.6" Ivy Bridge with LP.

Enjoy your MacBook Pros. :D

They never had a media event when introducing the 27 inch iMacs, apples largest computer announcement on recent years.

SSD + HD combo would consume more power than just a single HD.

Indeed. Plus, I'm not sure you will really feel the real benefits (other than quick bootup) of having flash on-board unless the apps can live on the SSD, and 8-16 GB is just too small for that for most folks who'd be buying a MacBook Pro.

I'm pretty sure that isn't true if it's designed right. It's the whole purpose of "Turbo Memory"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Turbo_Memory

The technology was publicly introduced on October 24, 2005, at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in Taiwan when a laptop that booted up almost immediately was demonstrated.[2] The technology attempts to decrease hard drive usage by moving frequently accessed data over to the flash memory. Flash memory can be accessed faster than hard drives and requires less power to operate, thereby allowing laptops to operate faster while also being more power efficient.[3][4]

It'll be interesting to see how much SSD will cost a few years from now. They are really just too expensive right now but they do really help the macbook run so much nicer.

On another note:

Optical drive still here to stay they will hack the optical drive off the regular macbook before they do the pro. I give it a couple of more years when disks truly are completely gone! By this I mean, Target and Wall-mart not selling any anymore. Two years is my guess

So does anybody think Apple is going to have a big event like when the iPad was introduced? After all, I bet were talking about an iPad 2 and the MBP's at the same time! It's only 4 days until thursday, and the Mac OSX Lion event invitation went out 10 days in advance so I have my doubts.

That all makes perfect sense to me!

Hopefully LightPeak makes it in too. Also, how did they shave half a pound? No more optical drives???

We should be seeing an invitation by tomorrow if this is happening this week! It will probably just be at their campus. There will be a separate event at the end of March for the iPad 2 and it will ship a week or two later in early April.

I wonder when we will see the MobileMe refresh. They said they would turn the new data center on at the end of last year. :(

I've been a member for about a month now. I signed up to see when the mpb's would be upgraded, and to gauge whether to purchase one or not. And now that it is pretty obvious that they'll be released on Thursday, all these reports of what is probably going to be included in the new update ruins a good portion of the hype for me. I know some of these rumors may not turn out to be true, but if they are...

And yes, I could just avoid reading these forums all together, however, they are intriguing!

Wouldn't it be more exciting, enjoyable, or gratifying to just see what they actually release right before you make your purchase.

Can't wait until Thursday :D

Yes.

Not if you expect hem to work.

What? What Mac OSX are you running?

Support files need to be in specific places, but not the physical App. This is not Windows.

And what the other writer was saying is what the article is talking about. It would load the most used Apps on the SSD drive and the not so used Apps on the hard drive. That way Apps you use all the time are always ready to go. BIG speed increase!

Source is also saying that in two weeks the MBP will be updated..I wish THAT isn't true

Chapter 57 in the saga of "RISC OS Did It First" – well, almost. It did it with a Flash ROM, so this is quite a bit better. Now, if Apple could steal the file saving UI from RISC OS too, I'd be happy.

This what I do with all the computers I build. Larger trackpad for lion. Anyone think lightpeak is a still possibility. Or liquidmetal? What about gpus in the 15-17inch?

Why, sir?

I really don't see Apple going black on top of their regular shiny silver. For some reason, black laptops sell less for the strange impression that they are cheap. Yes, Apple could change that, but I bet they are perfectly happy with their beautiful silver MBP's right now. Personally I don't think black equals cheap, but in reality most of the worst looking laptops on the planet were black.
