Just don't buy these things. If Apple are truly aloof at their consumer base (as I suspect) they will kill off their home computers and eventually die out as that base switches to android due to using Windows machines. If they are keen and smart and understand business, they will notice these piss poor "upgrades" aren't what we want and correct them in the future releases.
[doublepost=1477603800][/doublepost]The people on this forum are the people who buy: Macbook Pros, iMacs & Mac Pros.

lol. How does Apple not see this, and do research on here as to what we WANT.

It isn't difficult, you either buy one or you don't, no one is forcing anybody at gunpoint in to the Apple store. I think they are wildly overpriced crap, and the assault on ports etc is Apple's way of trying to tie you further and further in to their eco system. A "Pro" product with a strip of emojis? LOL. Can't plug my new iPhone in to my new laptop? Boo Hoo. But they're not compulsory, other computers are available.

What a freaking joke. So glad I bought my Dell XP 15 in Feb and didn't wait for this.

Skylake i7
16GB Ram
512GB SSD
4k UHD
Dedicated NVIDIA graphics
Edge to Edge display

All for less than 1200 from the Dell Outlet.
I have used macs since the LC III (look it up!), but your model (or the xps 13) is probably what I'd get if my 2013 rMBP died tomorrow. I guess I'd consider a 2015 Air to stay with MacOS, but Windows 10 is decent.

The MacBook line and today's MacBook Pros are insanely priced. My rMBP came with 8 gb RAM and a 256 ssd for $1500. Three years ago. The $1800 touchbar model unveiled today has the same (albeit faster). Insane.

Peeps, you are better of in America..
In America, the maxed out version of the 15 inch version costs 4299 dollar, in Europe it is 5499 dollar!
just crazy prices over here, not upgrading.

Back in June, I ended up giving up on waiting the new MacBook Pro, so I ended up getting the Lenovo P50 since I needed a faster computer for a project. I loaded it up with a mobile Xeon processor, 64gb ram, 512gb pcie ssd, 4K display, etc. and it came up to $2,500 with some discounts. This includes 3 year onsite warranty with accident protection.

Other than the size, which I have to say isn't as bad as I thought, I have to say I love the computer.

As an Apple fan I am getting more and more disappointed by the lack of innovations and the price increase that is just insane right now. Yes you are not forced to buy and yes it has always been expensive, but this is not even about "Can I afford it or not?". Even if you have the money you shouldn't buy this because it is just a rip off. It is like paying 5 euro your glass of water in a luxurious bar, yes you can afford but yes you'll feel pissed about it!

Good lord, even by Apple's standard's those UK prices are absolutely obscene. Looks like I'll stick with my rMBP for at least the next 2 years. Thank god for those brave Brexiteers who took back control, at least we won't need computers when they take us back to the stone age.
yeah and she is making a "success" out of it..😀😀😀

Well, I can't buy the old stuff from last year, their hardware isn't modern, it's their 2012/2014 range. And I want a modern system, to last me 6+ years. So willing to invest some money.

The Dutch laptops - same configuration - went from 3450 to 4000+, just ridiculous.
So investing in a desktop solution with a monitor, or a new iMac .. is now out of the question for me.

Utterly disappointed, but hey, people can now touch their function keys they almost never used .. "better".

I think I am going with a new policy. a new laptop every year, and i just wont spend more than 1000 a year on them.

I don't know what else to do, certainly am not going to spend 3500+ on an iMac from last year, and what I have on the agenda simply can't wait 5+ months until apple is ready at wwdc to give us an iMac with a usb-c port.

(All prices in Canadian dollars... but recall that our dollar was at parity not long ago)

The base 13" Pro now starts at $1900, $2300 with the touch bar... for a dual-core laptop.

The base 15" Pro now starts at $3,000. It was only $2,000 about 18 months ago for the base 15" Pro.

The Air is falling off the map entirely but it's the only MacBook under $1650 (at $1200).

I wonder how this might affect sales up here.

I was planning on holding out for the new 15" but it's just too much.

Student discount has taken some of the pain off the increase - great as I'm not even a student! It either wipes out the Touch ID premium or the currency fluctuations. Not both though.

Buddy had been saving for one for over a year, had his card ready to buy one. We were both excited, prices hit and it was like a bombshell, think he's going for an XPS 15 now. Which is a shame as he was really excited about getting his first Mac.
if he is ok with previous models or MBP (or the 12 Inch MB) most retailer websites haven't updated their prices YET.
for example JohnLewis that also offers 3 years free warranty on all Macs.but you will need to hurry as they will update their prices according to Apple in an hour.right now you can get the 12 Inch MB from them £200 cheaper than Apple's new price! (exact same model) + 3 years warranty.

Just be grateful youre not in the UK! Prices are through the roof. 20% plus increase on everything including models not updated.

Yeah £1550 for a MacBook M5. I'm in shock. So greedy.
[doublepost=1477606366][/doublepost]
Too late even the returbs have had a 10 to 20% Brexit tax added.

It's upsetting. £1550 for a M5 little MacBook?????

There's going to be so many of us in the same boat it will probably capsize. 🙁

I can't believe the damn UK price increase - i'm in shock!

What is sad is Apple treats Mac users as second-class citizens while iPhones get the most focus because it makes them the most money. So Mac users get neglected only for Apple to slap them with first-class ticket pricing!

You can tell Apple is moving away from personal computers. They could care about it which is why they marketed the iPad Pro was a desktop replacement. I don't believe that hogwash. I believe no current smartphone or tablet can ever truly replace the importance of a desktop and certainly not from an iPhone or iPad!

Apple was first build on making computer and now it seems they no longer care for it. MacRumors should change their name to iPhoneRumors. Mac Daddy and Daddy Mac no longer wants to make us jump, jump...

Mac users are dead to Apple. Second-class citizens being charged for first-class prices. Sad and so unreasonable when you consider Macs last far longer than iPhones and iPads and are really Apple's best products in terms of quality. But they neglect it most of the time and focus only to sell their bread winner iPhones.

Steve Jobs once said it was NEVER ABOUT THE MONEY. He did things because he loved to do it. To make a dent into the universe. Tim Cook is the opposite. He wants a bulge in his pocket. It's all about the dolla dolla bills y'all

Held onto my A1181 for until something great came along. I guess I'm going to try the 12" Retina MacBook.

My favorite Apple product goes to my long dead 12" PowerBook.

these prices are insane.
not just the new models but how can they justify so much price hike on existing models??
the result will be even more decline in Mac sales unfortunately.
Apple's best selling notebook was the MacBook Air,the reason being they were affordable Mac laptops.
now they killed the Air,and hiked every other models price (at least in the UK where they are asking for £200 more for 12 Inch base MacBook ($243 more).this can only result in far less sales.
I don't understand their logic at all.
I bought my base 2014 rMBP in 2015 for £1000 ($1220) ,if I was in market now for a MBP today ,I had to pay minimum of £1449 ($1770) for the cheapest model without touch bar.that's beyond insanity.

Ive been ready to buy a 15" for a while now, but Uk prices have literally put it out of my reach 🙁
Its all well and good saying buy a Dell, it might well be a decent spec/price, but no amount of plus points for it can overcome the grim reality of going back to windows, something I refuse to do!
Let alone the fact I love how my iPhone and iPad tie in with the MBP, and software I've bought to use on the MBP isn't available on windows.

Looks like its going to have to be a refurbed 2015 unless 3rd party shops in the UK sell off any new 2015 stock cheap.
Bollocks! 🙁

Well I'll be sticking to my 2012 MBP. My last Mac. I'll be sticking to Apple for phones and tablets but computers I'll be buying new Thinkpads.

How much is the education discount on these new expensive models? Still $100 regardless of 13" or 15" and specs...or...?

I just can't fathom how much the prices are in Canada. I get our dollar sucks, but still - it's astronomical. If I were honestly looking to buy a new MBP, I'd probably opt for a refurb'd 2015 or something, the value just isn't there IMO.

I love Apple. I have to 2015 rMBP 13" and it's great. I paid $1499 for it. That seemed like a lot to me. In this day and time with economies being what they are, in all honesty, I'd say that the prices for the new MBPs are insulting.

Actually, now I'm thinking that the word tasteless is a more apt descriptor than insulting.

I think what is happening is not that far away from cartel economics.

Both MS and Apple and pushing the price of premium notebooks higher, after a period where prices were tumbling.

Problem is, it's either **** or get off the pot. There will be people who will buy older kit at (slightly) lower price, or will jump ship to Windows to get a marginal improvement in hardware spec (if not build quality). But most will eventually adapt to the new prices and rationalise their purchase choices.

I think predicting Apple's demise based on this release is premature. What there is today is a shockwave due to prices. As the days go by, folk will become assimilated - just like they have by spending £700 each year on a new phone, or £400 on a new watch, just so they can see their text messages ping in on their wrist.

It's the way of the world, sadly.
