I believe that you have hit the nail on the head. Sales figures will bring them back to planet Earth.

Sales figures will make them think the pc is dying and continue working on their Apple Car.

The only sales figures mattering is the iPhone and Samsung **** the bed with that

I do not get what these guys Are getting pAid to do All DAY for 4 yeArs? THEY HAD ONE JOB!!!

They are either:

1. Coasting to retirement (Most likely)
2. Paid by Tim Crook to figure out how they can raise prices on everything while pretending to add value

I can't justify many nice things, but I use my Macbook Pro every single day.

My current 15inch has been rock solid, as has the one that came before it. I have no problem with the price, until there are viable alternatives. And the Microsoft/Dell/HP stuff isn't it. Maybe it is for you, and that's awesome.

i just looked at my 2014 mac and the price with the same specs is almost the same. maybe it depends on the configuration.

I'm keeping my 2013 Air 13" 4/128 for the time being. Just wish I went for the Pro Retina 13" 8/256 back then.

Damn. Again. I'm going Dell. Screw your arguments about Windows, it's a kickass OS.

Dell XPS 13
7th Gen i7-7500U Kaby Lake
16GB RAM
512GB SSD
3200x1800 touch display (276 ppi)
$1849 right now.

Plenty of ports, SD card reader, and USB-C.

Curious choice. You could have gotten the 13" MBP (without the touch bar) for $1,899.00. Faster CPU/GPU and storage, much better display, better keyboard/trackpad.

I definitely paid $3k+ for a 17-inch MBP back when those were a thing. Personally, I'd love to have a 17inch super thin MBP using this current design.

But, in reality not many would, which is why they don't make them.

Should there be a cheap Macbook, to go along with this lineup? Sure. But what would that even look like now? White plastic Macbooks of old with an i5, integrated graphics and a hybrid spinning disk (at best)? Another wave of complaints would follow that.

Not really. It's still last years CPU and GPU. Display color may be better and better trackpad (I have the 12 inch Macbook) but it's not enough to convince me. Dell has upgradeable PCIe SSD, which is more important to me when 2TB SSD becomes reasonable priced in a year or two. And there are more software on the Windows side that I use that have no Mac alternative.

I mostly use a Logitech Anywhere bluetooth mouse, so even my Macbook trackpad don't get used much.

It has all the traditional ports, including SD card reader, and a USB-C port.

I have been eagerly awaiting the new Macbooks and had zero doubt I'd be ordering the second they became available..

After today? Nope, not happening! Sorry Apple but you've seriously went overboard with the Apple tax this time so I am passing on it...

Bummed because I've been wanting and needing a new PC for a while now but this is not going to be it..

We all know Apple products have premium price. But their price on the new MacBooks is absolutely crazy far beyond my expectations. The 13" one with the touch bar is amazing and while watching the keynote, I knew this sucker was gonna be expensive...but at $1799.... Wow it's enough to buy 2 iphone 7 Plus 128gb

I already knew I would never buy another Apple laptop before the event. Guess it'll be my aging MBA and maybe a future iPad Pro :-(

Sounds like you'd be better off with a Windows machine if all your apps require Windows. Not trying to be a smartass- but use the right tool for the job.

The new features did impress me but at that price, not a chance, not with rivals creating things just as competitive with touch technology at closer to £1,000 for a fully operational device.

Sign... the Dell might use a new-gen CPU, but its a low-powered version (15W) which is significantly slower than the Skylake (28W) used in the MBP. Its slower, don't worry. So is the GPU (half as many EUs compared to the MBP). Don't fall for marketing hype. Look at the specs. The only thing were Dell has an advantage is slightly less weight. Which is reasonable, given the fact that it uses slower and therefore less power-hunry components.

Thanks. I take no offense. I really like Apple's clean design (hardware and software), but at the end of the day, I can't justify it.

Wow!! i'm in shock. The new Macbooks are nice, but the prices are beyond ridiculous. 13" for $1799?? Seriously? I'm either gonna buy last year's model from the outlet store, or i'm going to dump Apple altogether and go with another brand. very sad.

I don't get it, sorry. You say that you can't justify it and yet you say that you just bought a laptop that is SLOWER and techically inferiour and yet priced almost exactly the same. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

My biggest dilemma is 8 vs 16 gigs of Ram. I already need the 512 SSD so I'm looking at $1999 minimum.

I would have liked the 15 inch version but at $2600 I don't use the power to justify it.

Since the beginning I am an Apple fan but more and more I surprise myself saying "Apple is just loosing it..."
The innovations are too shy to apply such a price increase! People followed Steve no matter what, but I don't think this will continue for so long...

If Apple would have priced the Top 15 inch model 1999$ it maybe could have been worth it....
[doublepost=1477601311][/doublepost]
Yep exactly. If Microsoft charges this much, it must be ok for Apple to do the same. And these new MBP's are the best MBP's Apple has ever made so a little more profit is justifiable.
Every year their current product is their best ever .... -_-

They have just gone a step too far for me. I could handle the price rises if they hadn't completely taken the piss with the spec.

8gb RAM and 512 SSD on a machine costing nearly £2k.

Why is there no option for 32gb and why isn't 16gb standard.

I had a 2013 13" MBP and it was a bit sluggish as a dev machine with 8gb. 16gb should be standard in a pro model especially at these prices.

Quite astounded that they are still not offering 32gb even as an upgrade option on the 15" MBP.

I think apple are going to get a massive shock when their sales for these suck. I was 100% going to get one of these with no thought that I wouldn't want it once they were released. It seems, just from a cursory look that at least 50% or more of people who were going to get a new MBP are not going to bother any more.

Once people don't have a mac I think that more people will be tempted by android as well. The next 5 years will make or break apple I reckon.

That would make no sense, considering the base 15" for the 2015 MacBook Pro was $1,999. Why would a newer AND higher spec model be the same price? I would love it if that was the case, but that doesn't make sense.

When I was watching the vid, I was thought ****, I bought a 13" air maxed out when the last one came out.
While waiting for a more powerfull 15". As my 15" died a while before.
I bought a second mac pro tower yesterday,
I do not regret that, I need 32gb ram minimum for PS and various medium format camera's.

It's like they "mac pro'd" the "macbook pro" ... It's mainly more expensive and thinner.
Not really faster. I'm waiting for a mac pro mainly ... like most pro's and waiting for a new macbook pro,
as It could be fast enough, but not with max 16gig ram ... and for a price ...
I don't mind the Apple premium, but this is more like a rip off.

The Oled strip I don't know, It looks usefull, but 15 min after the presentation I feel more like,
most people will just work as they work ... Eizo, keys, mouse, wacom, whatever, some people I know PS at light speed.
What I never liked was working with the trackpad in PS for serious editing ...

Same. I was hoping for a 15". Gonna just keep my 12" MacBook now.
