This is why i build hackintoshes.

I know people like having a laptop, but I prefer the power and customization of a desktop.

Not to mention the lower prices.

Here is an explanation of Harry Helson's adaptation theory:
http://www.ehow.com/facts_7207598_helson-adaptation-level-theory.html

Example: A person is used to paying $1000 a month rent. It seems like a lot. Then the person becomes quite successful and is able to afford $3000 rent. At first, it's exciting to have a home that you can now afford to rent at the higher price, but soon that becomes the new normal, and there is a striving for a higher priced living situation.

In a broader sense, people will go along with the crowd, and if everyone opts to buy the higher priced item, then it becomes the new normal price. But, at this point in time it may come down to tuition, medical care or rent vs. buying a new computer. When individual resources are limited (as they have increasingly become), however, then you begin to experience diminishing returns, and you price yourself out of the market (or you price the market out of itself).

The eyes of a man are never satisfied.

What is sad is Apple treats Mac users as second-class citizens while iPhones get the most focus because it makes them the most money. So Mac users get neglected only for Apple to slap them with first-class ticket pricing!

You can tell Apple is moving away from personal computers. They could care about it which is why they marketed the iPad Pro was a desktop replacement. I don't believe that hogwash. I believe no current smartphone or tablet can ever truly replace the importance of a desktop and certainly not from an iPhone or iPad!

Apple was first build on making computer and now it seems they no longer care for it. MacRumors should change their name to iPhoneRumors. Mac Daddy and Daddy Mac no longer wants to make us jump, jump...

Mac users are dead to Apple. Second-class citizens being charged for first-class prices. Sad and so unreasonable when you consider Macs last far longer than iPhones and iPads and are really Apple's best products in terms of quality. But they neglect it most of the time and focus only to sell their bread winner iPhones.

Steve Jobs once said it was NEVER ABOUT THE MONEY. He did things because he loved to do it. To make a dent into the universe. Tim Cook is the opposite. He wants a bulge in his pocket. It's all about the dolla dolla bills y'all

It felt that way the last few years. They advertise to Professionals, but the specs and what they offer is a joke compare to anything offered on the Windows side (Dell, ASUS, HP, Acer). Let alone custom built-PC at all price ranges and all different sizes that anyone could order from Newegg.com. From a micro PC to a large desktop that you can stick in the latest graphic cards. All Apple does is offer an overpriced, underpowered, un-upgradeable trash can.

So, i guess this is crazy. But do you think one reason Apple increased the price substantially was because they felt there was too much "overlap" between MacBook and MacBook Pro pricing?

To be honest i'd prefer if they made the MacBook a slight bit cheaper.

I think what is happening is not that far away from cartel economics.

This crossed my mind as well. I wonder is it a form of tacit collusion? Apple saw that MS were charging more for the Surface line and decided to bump their prices up.

I'm hoping it's as it was when the rMBP was first released, and the prices drop within a year at the first spec bump (hopefully).

Has anyone noticed that they even charge for the power cable? Yep, seriously. That cable you used to get in the box of every Macbook Pro so it could reach any reasonable distance is now an extra £20.

Wow Apple wow.

So to make this a laptop that connects to my devices its £20 for an ethernet dongle, £20 for a USB dongle (£60 if I want 3 ports), £20 for a power cable, £50 for a display port monitor connector. Thats £110 - £150 on top of the insane price to connect it.

My MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) that I bought for $400 six months ago seems pretty decent all of a sudden.

It came with the box with all the accessories and original receipt.

People in this thread posting like they were expecting 512GB SSD and 16GB Ram with PS4 quality GPU for $1699.
Not at all. The problem (at least in Australia) is that the 15" model with 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD is 50% more expensive than it was in 2013. I know that the other specs have changed, but it still doesn't justify the price delta. It's crazy stuff.

The prices will probably drop next refresh. Apple has been pulling this premium on top of a premium price scumbag move every since they released the first retina MacBook.

Just bought a refurbished 2015 MacBook Pro from apple. i7/16gb/512 March 2015 1,900$ out the door get it on Saturday. Current prices are insane and I'm not paying it. They want 2500$ for a machine with no ports I'm not doing it.

If i max out the Processor and the Graphics card it goes for around 3700 euros here... :O :O I bought my 2011 17'' MBP with max Processor and Ram for 2700 euros back then... Thats 1000 euros difference... :/

This is crazy. I got the top-end MacBook Pro 2014 with dedicated graphics (well, without the even higher CPU Upgrade) for almost the same prize the new entry 15" model costs now. ~2650€. The entry model. And this one is not even 512Gb SSD!

I thought of upgrading... but if I want to match at least the SSD storage, I would end up paying around 3000€ ($3300). And that with the entry level CPU and entry level GPU. What's going on?

As a big Apple fan, this is just too much. Vote with your wallets people. Don't give in to this crap. Makes the new M$ Studio AIO seem....affordable...

I did. I am giving up Apple laptop for a Windows laptop now.

I made sure my workflow does not require any Apple dependent tools or software for things like this.

All I originally wanted was a new Air with a updated CPU and retina instead I got super jacked up prices. This machine was a referb so I'm fine with that and it put about 700$ back in my pocket. I had a Pro before and really liked it. It will still be a upgrade from this 2013 Air.

I've never seen so many people pissed off with Apple, feels for a brief moments that i am in the SWTOR forums...

What's the best place to pick up a 15" rMBP prior model (May 2015)? Amazon has it for $100 more than the refurbish Apple is selling. I can go into Best Buy and get them to match that I'm guessing (the Amazon price of $1799). But I'm scared there are better deals to be had for a prior model now that the new ones are out.

Currently have a 2012 13" MBP (not retina :( ) that I've had to replace the battery that died and it still doesn't really hold a charge well. Before that I was using the 2009 15" MBP that had a memory slot die out and then mysteriously never turned on again recently.

edit: I hate the dropping of the magsafe and all usb-a ports and of course the prices :) and I don't care for the touch bar.

It's pretty sad that the new rMBP prices make we consider switching to a Windows PC for the firs time in my life. I've always been an Apple user but this is ridiculous. I have a 2014 13" rMBP but I'm wondering if I should grab a 2015 model refurb while I still can.

I'm speechless that anyone is speechless about Apple charging a premium for their products. Like it or not they have been doing this for years with every single thing they sell and I don't see it changing in the foreseeable future.
