I think what is happening is not that far away from cartel economics.
Both MS and Apple and pushing the price of premium notebooks higher, after a period where prices were tumbling.
But most will eventually adapt to the new prices and rationalise their purchase choices.
I think predicting Apple's demise based on this release is premature. What there is today is a shockwave due to prices. As the days go by, folk will become assimilated - just like they have by spending £700 each year on a new phone, or £400 on a new watch, just so they can see their text messages ping in on their wrist.
It's the way of the world, sadly.
I don't know, look at mac pro, most stayed tower or went windows and never adapted to what Apple forces Pro.
Cartel economics I don't think so ... Microsoft just wants to get rid of that "crap" image,
and if I was in the market for a serious touch workflow, they offer a serious product at about the same price
as an 27" imac, the designer alure of Apple but It's more like a wacom in fuunction.
It looks really great, if not this version, than maybe the next could be THE drawing board design pc.
The strip is not serious, using an ipad pro as an adobe controller could be more interesting
( maybe It's possible, I don't have Ipad )
But for 2000 - 3000 pure laptop you will get something more beefy from most PC vendors.
For 2000 - 3000 pure desktop PC, you get a Mac crusher.
High end PC's were never cheap, they were cheaper, the prices go down fast, there are more actions and deals etc ...
but on release date, premium PC's are expensive.
Microsoft might go for the premium brand price now they have the spotlight, to get a better imago.
But those prices won't be the same in 3 years, like some Apple products.
Apple is just delusional, they know they can hardmilk there fanbase, so they try,
sometimes It fails. Like now, timing is bad for an overoverpriced emoji macbook when hopes were realy high.
With the market stagnates, inovation slows down a little, price go up a little.
