I'm afraid if this doesn't sell well, this will force Apple to stop caring about the Mac line, which is sad.
Which is extremely sad to me. I don't consider myself professional, but with the occasional Photoshop work I don't consider myself casual either. I'd love to buy a new MacBook Pro, but Apple shot themselves in the foot this time.

I just priced out a comparable Dell Precision 5510 and it was only cheaper by a few hundred dollars.

The reality is that intel processors are overperforming for 95% of the population, who are just browsing the web and light content editing. We are paying for user experience, now, not the specs. I bought a $2000 Sager, it was worthless within a couple of years. At work I've gone through 2 Toshibas. How many times should I have to scrub a damn OS? The same website on a Mac runs fluidly, and on the windows laptops in my office, it's like watching a deer that's been hit by a car try to get up and walk. And don't even get me started on how bad Windows laptops have been with YOUTUBE.

Whether I like it or not, Apple provides the best user experience in any computer I've ever worked with. I've been buying (and selling) computers since 1995, and nothing comes close to the latest MacOS and hardware combo. Yes, the ports (on the iPhone 7 and Mbp) are ludicrous -- or future-proofing. And I think that's what they're shooting for in the MBP. As you all keep saying "My old MBP still works great." Yeah, there's a reason for that. Meanwhile, my "great-spec" win-laptops are painful to use within a year.

Just a reminder a MacBook Air is only 999$ and can do everything a MBP from 3 years ago could do.

The only reason to get a MBP is for Final Cut Pro X/Logic Pro X/Photoshop etc. Programs like that.

Unless you are doing those things you dont HAVE to get a MBP. If 3K is too much you can always get a 1K machine that is plenty powerful.

So to hate on this premium product is unfair. Would you hate on the 17 inch MBP? That was 3K.

The touch bar is VERY appealing but once I can get one, I think I might get the early 2015 if there are any on sale, I'm sure there will be. If I get the touch bar computer with apple care and accessories it's gonna come out to over $2k.. too much.

Not to keep repeating myself but thats what I just did. Upgrading from a Mid 2013 i7/8GB/512GB Air to a Early 2015 i7/16GB/512GB Pro. Should be a nice speed jump. I don't need top of the line just wanted something better. Apple refurbished have a 14 free return and a 1 year warranty. Of course I will probably have to buy Windows again because of MS new licensing but that par for the course.

I was already to buy a new Pro today but 2499 plus tax and adapter was just too much.

I have an HP laptop straight from the stone age that I was hoping to ditch for the newest MBP, but after the price announcement I don't know if I can justify the price, especially since my parents are paying as a graduation gift. This was supposed to be my first year college laptop and even with education pricing it's still such a steep price. Makes me upset that I've been waiting months for this laptop only to find out the astronomical price tag. Really took me by surprise. Seriously, who's Apple's market demographic??

I agree. My 2012 is getting really slow and I just want an upgrade. Was waiting to see what this new release would bring but since it's way out of my price range, that made my decision easier. Definitely going to upgrade the specs though.

Well I remember when the 2015 came out any they talked it up like it was unbeatable. Plus I won't need any adapters, my work bag has enough stuff in it as it is.

The fact that for $2400 you get a measly 256GB SSD is the proverbial kick in the d**. Come on now, for that amount of money you should get at least 512GB, and really more like 1TB. Storage is cheap. I know with Apple you always pay a premium, but this just feels like a grab. I want one, but not at that price for those specs. Pretty touch bar or not.

Yes....the one I configured (for fun) costs $4299 before state taxes....add another $1000 for a top of the line iPhone, and guess what? You still can't connect the two together unless you buy a $25 cable. Apple must be smoking the wacky tobacky.....

I feel for people who rely on their computer for heavy gaming, multimedia production or rely on MacOS specific apps. These prices really justify my slow, but steady transition to cross platform apps and the cloud. Hopefully, in a year or two, I'll be completely device agnostic.

The thing that seems to be lost in all this complaining is that you can still buy refurb macs for a great price and they are practically brand new. You want the shiny new touch bar.. well you gotta pay. Although it is expensive still.

A Dell XPS 15 is looking mighty tempting right now.

Oh Dell XPS is a bargain compared to what Apple is offering now.

For those of you Apple fans who have your head stuck in the sand. Here's a reasonably priced laptop that have all the specs, except the hard drive instead of it being SSD.

https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Satellite-4K-Touchscreen-Processor/dp/B01FPT99F2/

15 inch touchscreen, 4K display, 6th gen i7-6500U (Same 6th gen as Apple newest MBP), 12GB RAM, 1 TB HD (Yeah, its HD instead of SSD), all for less than $850.

Apple asking price basically double that and above, and less spec than what Toshiba offers, with the exception of a HD instead of SSD. I think you know where I'm going.

And Windows is more useful than Mac OS, at least in my world. Gaming, video, and photo editing software. I understand Apple is prettier and nicer, but that can only go so far.

At least it has a headphone jack, lol.

Will be super funny. Trying to copy something to your MBP from a usb flash drive and you're like: "Sorry, can't do, forgot my dongle".

Well, to be fair, there are plenty of USB-C thumb drives coming out now (most with both USB-C connectors AND "normal" USB connectors on them). And there are little tiny USB-C dongles that any of us who were to buy one would just always keep in our laptop bags I guess.

Although it would have been nice if they put at least one standard USB 3.0 port on it (on the back or something). I realize that's not how Apple rolls though, so I'm not too worried about it only have USB-C, as I expect that to become the norm with thin form factor laptops across the industry over the next year.

Far from apples to apples comparison. For example, the 1TB SSD offered in the MBP is far more expensive than a 1TB spinning disk. Would be equivalent to the Samsung 960 Pro (or better), and that itself retails for ~$600. 1TB conventional disk? About $75.

I'd love the new machine to cost $1500. It just doesn't.

Understand, but even if let say they replace that 1TB HD with a 1TB SSD, and the price for some reason doubles from that $850 to $1700, it's still cheaper overall than what Apple is offering, keeping all other specs the same.

Very true.

It's a premium product for sure. You see it with products like the Surface Book, and whatever that nice looking HP is called. Neither are cheap.

Dell sells lots of their hunks of plastic, and have low prices. Pretty reliable these days too.

I have a Dell Precision 5510 for work, 32gb RAM, 512gb PCIe, Quadro, 4k screen was quite a bit less than the new MBP. It's a great mobile workstation but it's had a lot of issues to contend with. It's very stable now but it's taken Dell 10 months to get it to that point.

Looking at the price points, the real issue (apart from dropping the lower starting points in the range) is that the specifications are far too under cooked for the price. 16gb RAM instead of 8gb, 512gb storage over 256gb storage would sweeten the deal for many.

£2,129 in the UK for a 13" with 512gb PCIe and 16gb RAM is really far too expensive even allowing for BREXIT.

Looking at the price of some of the other premium models out there, Apple are not alone in charging top dollar, I'm wondering if they've been influenced by the price of the Surface Book and it's relative success?
