While we're all moaning, expected ship dates have already stretched out into December for new orders placed now. So clearly these new prices are not stopping a lot of people from ordering. In that regard, it's hard not to congratulate Apple. I still won't be buying one though :)

Could just be limited stock. They know we're in a post-PC world, they know there was probably going to be sticker shock, they know Microsoft has stepped up their game, so why not under-estimate what you need vice having too much stock on hand. After all, Tim Cook is a Supply guru.

It's pretty sad that the new rMBP prices make we consider switching to a Windows PC for the firs time in my life. I've always been an Apple user but this is ridiculous. I have a 2014 13" rMBP but I'm wondering if I should grab a 2015 model refurb while I still can.
My biggest realization was looking at windows laptops and actually trying them out and finding out I've been missing out on a lot of great things for years. Apparently Microsoft has pretty much caught up and I just never knew because I was so crazy over apple? Time to make a new windows laptop purchase

The price has made the touch bar macbook pros a complete no go for me. There's no way that these laptops cost them that much to make. No way. And the touch bar is OK, but not nearly a must have. And at these prices, it's a SUPER easy call to pass on this generation. The weight reduction was also disappointing to me. They could have shed more.
To me the most compelling reason to buy the new macbook pros is the monitor 5k support.

But make no mistake about it, Apple will reduce the price on these in 3 months when they realize that they are simply way too expensive for anyone making less than $100,000 K per year, which is alot of people.

If using macOS is important enough to you, then I'd do it if I were you, because they've also adjusted prices to account for currency rates as well. Something that was missed in all of the day's craziness. The refurb's escaped that though, so now their "discount" looks like it's even better than before.

I was trying to resist going into the Microsoft Store here for the longest while, but ended up going into one a few months ago for the first time, and now I check out what's new every couple weeks. I have to admit, they do have some nice products on display in there, but most things always seem to have that "one thing" (City Slickers) that I don't like which makes me say, "nope." Things like the rubber feet on the XPS 13, or the shiny plastic bodies on others (I'm looking at you, Lenovo.) The only lineup that I seem to always gravitate towards when I go there now is the ASUS and Acer stuff.

Speaks volumes to the markup that they have on their gear.

Enjoy.

Curious what everyone here thinks on the new MBP pricing. The consensus seems to be frustration, anger, disappointment, and everything else.

Members of this forum are arguably some of Apple's largest supporters yet I've seen so much push back and anger I'm taken aback.

Is this the last straw for many? Is this the one step too far where Apple finally gets knocked down a peg and given a reality check? Or is this more of the typical moaning but everyone will still order? Not sure I've ever seen this sort of mass revolt solidarity on a new product's pricing.

Personally, I'm disgusted by the new pricing.

Think of the TouchBar as an extra inch of screen.

Then add the fact that e v e r y s i n g l e t h i n g about this new MBP is better than the last gen. Literally, EVERY THING, by A LOT.

Why is it unreasonable pricing?

I'd say it was, but theres nowhere to go. I love my iPhone and macOS. All I can hope for is that they release a model in the future that comes closer to what I want in a three thousand dollar machine.

Actually the more I check it out, the more I am starting to like the new MacBook Pro. I still wouldn't want it though because it lacks USB-A, SD slot, and MagSafe. The SD slot is overlooked but a godsend since this is Apple we are dealing which lacks any storage slots like on their iPods and iOS devices. The glowing Apple logo is no big deal because it is a different design and I really wouldn't want every MacBook look the same. As for price, I paid $1600 for a VAIO laptop ten years ago. One with the battery recall, overheated, and was stuck on XP for like seven years with it.

I guess we had a little knee-jerk reaction from Apple removing ports and raising the prices. Listen, when we see these ads, we fall for it. We are tempted by it like when we first saw the intro for iPhone 7 and all the pretty pictures in their promo ads. What kills it for me is knowing once we own these new MBP, the omitted ports will start annoying the hell out of us like it did to the poster in the iPhone 7 fail thread. We fall for the ads and the cool little changes with the Touch Bar. We start getting ticked off from the omissions and butterfly keyboard.

But is the new MacBook Pro a bad product? Nope. Cost twice as much as an iPhone 7 Plus but Mac OS is twice as more useful to me as iOS which lacks drag and drop transfers and a file manager! This MBP seems pretty solid but I still wouldn't bite from the omitted ports and extremely happy and content at what I got. Is it overpriced? Not really considering how much previous laptops (or notebooks) cost that much even ten years ago. Still a pretty solid investment considering you will use this 2-3x longer than a $700-$1000 iPhone.

Instead of the hatred towards Apple, let's focus giving love back to the Mac! Apple's greatest product line of all-time. Sorry, iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Apple Watch. No thanks to iOS which is the most anti-PC mobile OS ever.

Macs = Apple's GOAT products

I say we just support all Macs and try to respect them considering Apple has stopped caring about them during the last four years. I don't want to see the Mac die because Apple lost focus on them for mobile devices.

I'm actually a bit mad because I rationally feel forced to buy a refurb model of somerhing I could have had and used for over a year now instead of patiently waiting for an update. I honestly dont want to or pay for dongles just to charge my iphone/ipad.

Many people on this forum have waited a year for the Skylake MBP, so understandably they're upset about being rewarded with a price increase. I was considering upgrading my late 2013 13", but opted to pass after I saw how much the prices had risen, especially with the 16 GB upgrade which I thought would be standard on this generation of 13".

Are you seriously going to say that a little strip of screen that replaces physical keys that no one complained about and a spec bump that is WAY overdue commands the premium they are asking?

Or that there is any reason the 2015 model should not have been lowered in price?

No way.

Hate to see what Apple is. How is this the company I have felt so strongly about for so long? I have ALWAYS preached that the Apple Tax is well worth it - but it's not on these MBP's.

Isn't it asinine that you can walk into the Apple Store and purchase a top of the line iPhone and MBP and they won't work with each other out of the box?

Seriously. WTF is Apple doing?! History repeats itself, I guess.

Also, it takes some "courage" to preach about abandoning the 3.5mm only to leave it in your new notebooks.

I think the telling part -

Microsoft made the surface book base thicker by adding a new dGPU and increased battery life and better air circulation.

Apple made changes that allowed them to slim theirs down even more.

I think right now, Microsoft is making the smarter moves.

Keyboard
Removal of the necessary (for me) function keys for a gimmick
No SD Card Slot
No HDMI slot
No Magsafe
No traditional USB ports
AMD graphics in a generation that NVidia is CLEARLY better in every way but price

no ones asking you to buy it...

if you can't afford it, buy a normal macbook or get a better job

from all the whinging on here, they all expect to drive mercedes for the price of a toyota.

you get what you pay for, even the new microsoft laptop is up there in price...

I can afford it. It just doesn't make sense any way I look at it. The anger from me comes from the fact that I feel like Apple is taking advantage of it's most loyal users. I've always been one to pay the Apple Tax but this is just asinine.

Let's be real here, even at $2000 for the old MBP, there wasn't anything that could compete with the reliability, build, and user experience.

Yea, you can go ahead and buy a plastic Windows laptop for less, but the extra quality has always been why people enjoy Apple products.

Buying anything electronic doesn't make sense, its always outdated within 6 months.

Apple has always taken advantage of us, but its no different to other companies such as Miele, Mercedes and other premium brands.

People will pay for it.

I ordered a new maxed out 15 inch today and its not far $$$ of the last Macbook pro i brought.

Yes, and you've used the new "gen2" keyboard.

All the other stuff you listed is old legacy stuff Apple is trying to move away from. It's like back in the day, you could have listed everything Apple took away and is now accepted as convention:

Flash
Removable batteries
CD drive
Floppy drive
Parallel port
Etc.
Etc.

Every single time, someone complains about Apple taking away stuff.

People will always resist change, and that's why Apple has had the #courage so so so many times to take the trash away and move on.

The new keyboard is REQUIRED to make the laptop as thin as it is. Apple has always been about thin and slim. It's not going to change any time soon, and apparently, people like thin and slim.
