A mess of a MacBook line up, zero updates to any desktop Macs and letting LG make 4K/5K displays for them... Now I really feel like they don't care about the Mac as much as they used to.

What do you mean messy?

They just cleaned up the line to only include two models. MacBook and MacBook Pro.

The Air is clearly getting nixed.

iMac is still rather fresh with the 5K display. They have time to update that one.

The Pro is a bit confusing, but I think many people end up choosing iMac 5K or rMBP15, so it makes sense that they beefed up the rMBPs first.

You're right, we should be happy and thrilled that you will allow yourself to be ripped off, and post about it for everyone to see!

Hey buddy, I got a bridge in Brooklyn, I'll set it to ya for a low price
Thanks for proving my point. How people spend their money for any product is exactly your business in what way? To insult them for doing it is simply childish.

I don't see how it's a mess. If anything, the new lineup makes more sense than what we've had for the past two years. Ever since the MacBook with Retina Display came out, the MBA has stood out like a sore thumb to me. Why is it dubbed the "Air" if the MacBook with Retina Display is smaller and lighter? It was only a matter of time until they discontinued it. Now you have the MacBook with Retina Display, entry-level MacBook Pro with no Touch Bar, and MacBook Pros available in 13" and 15". That seems pretty intuitive to me. How many PC manufacturers have such a simplified lineup? Even MS is more confusing with its several numbered Surface variants.

Yes I figured £400 would be added to the 15" £1999 model, but it is now £2699 far exceeding what I expected in total. Of course I wasn't factoring in price hikes in the US to be added on top of the brexit tax, but even I am struggling to justify paying these prices. And you know how much I love buying everything Apple makes.
If it's making you have second thoughts think what it's going to be like for the average customer. It's really upsetting me thinking I may end up being priced out of the market if the prices don't return to something more realistic over the next year or two.

I knew it was going to be at least $1799. Apple has always wanted a premium price for a new design. Look at the macbook. I have one, but it was $1299 for a core M guys! How did anyone think this would maintain the same price point?

from a few days ago:
My prediction is:

13" classic air $999
12" MacBook $1299
13" MacBook Air $1499
13" MacBook Pro $1799
15" MacBook Pro $2099

The rumored 13" air will sit right between the core M and the Pro. It will have an i5 and be a blend of the MacBook and pro. I think apple really makes a jump in the pro price with a redesign and power.

Do you need a safe space? Have you ever heard of this thing called humor? I don't actually have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell anyone.

I know the pricing is higher than anticipated but this is what Apple does - they pull you in with marketing hype and make older products seem obsolete. They really aren't! The sense of entitlement to the latest model is really thick here.

Honestly I hope no one buys this. Low sales will force the prices to come down. And trust me, I was all on board for this thing. But after seeing the price, I'll be sticking with my '12 rMBP and '15 iMac 5k.

Ditto. I picked up a base 13" 2015 MBP barely used via Ebay in June as a stop gap for £600. And the thought of over £2,000 on top of that (assuming i could resell it for the same as I bought it) for the new 15" seems impossible right now. Even though it pains me after waiting for the new MBP for ages, I'm going to have to pass for a good while yet, because not even a gadget geek like me can justify almost 5 times the price of what I have now, when it's perfectly capable for most of my needs (struggles bit with Lightroom and Photoshop).

I agree regarding the iMac - it doesn't need any crazy change, but keep the internals updated when possible.

I've felt that the past several years have been a messy line up as well.

This is how I feel it's a mess:

$999 13” MacBook Air
$1299 12” MacBook
$1299 13” MacBook Pro (2015)
$1499 13” MacBook Pro
$1799 13” MacBook Pro with Touch Bar
$1999 15” MacBook Pro (2015)
$2399 15” MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

And for some reason Phil pushed the 13" MacBook Pro as the successor to the 13" MacBook Air (likely because it has similar internal specs) but it's $500 more.

I feel like a simpler lineup would be a much easier marketing message for consumers:

12" MacBook
14" MacBook
13" MacBook Pro
15" MacBook Pro
(or go 14 and 16 on the Pro sizes)

Actually what was even decent was when they had a slide of the newest MacBooks up.

12" MacBook
13" MacBook Pro
13" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar
15" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

Just cut out the rest already.

I think that they are working on too many iDevices that they can't seem to keep up. With Steve, everything was simple. There was the iPhone, iPad and Macs. Now, everything is far more complexed with way too many unnecessary options causing a huge mess. Where do they draw the line? It's been blurred. Like the saying goes, "Be good in a few things, you can't be good at everything."

When you are worth tens of millions or hundreds of millions, like everyone who stepped foot on that Apple stage, $2000 is chump change. They have lost touch with reality.

Unfortunately I can see a lot more people making similar decisions. I was already expecting a price rise because of the low Pound but the further increases coming from Apple have killed it.

Yeh I was expecting some increase due to the low pound at the moment but these prices are unreasonable in my opinion and I don't mind paying a premium for a premium product. But this isn't 2012 anymore, Apple have some very very strong competition from the likes of Dell which I would have thought would help keep prices in check.
I'm just happy I got my 12" MacBook and I'm very happy with it only cost me around £800 after the student discount and selling the Beats headphones that came free with it. The thought of tripling that price for the new MacBook Pro just really puts me off and I bought two new Retina MacBooks in the past.

If you look on the Dell outlet you can find a 15 inch version of this(minus Kaby) for less than 1200 with Skylake I7.

Thanks again. The previous version had wifi trouble. The new one now has Killer wifi in it, so the signals are much stronger.

I went to a Microsoft store to play with the previous gen Dell XPS 13 and 15. I prefer the compactness of the 13 inch, even though the graphics is Intel instead of a dedicated one. The new Kaby Lake uses Intel 620, which is fine.

Dell right now has a 10% off coupon.

Dell XPS 13 inch
7th Gen i7-7500U Kaby Lake
16GB RAM
512GB SSD (PCIe, so upgradeable)
3200 x 1800 touch screen

$1,664.99 before tax.

Except that's basically what the current lineup is. If you go through the Apple Store online, those are the only ones featured on the front page of the Mac section. Going into MacBook Pro will show you the 2015 models, but only if you click on a button at the very bottom of the specs list. The Air is still displayed probably because it's a great computer for people on a tight budget. But as far as consumers looking for a new computer are concerned, the four models you listed are basically what Apple is pushing right now.

1. Prices of these are insane and it took a long time for this "redesign" aka price gouging to even take place
2. IPhone 7 is same design as the two phones before it
3. Apple watch hasn't become a main street hit and the second version offers very little the first didn't.
4. Profit down three quarters in a row

It's hardly been a good 16 months for apple.... their designs are stagnant and they are relying on brand appeal alone to sell products. I'd argue Apple has lost it's mojo. Apple has been disappointing as of late and that's too bad... I have been a fan boy since the first IPOD.... I may have to come to the realization, this company isn't what it once was, their products no longer wow and excite... and the Apple I once knew won't ever be again.

Just FYI: The hard drive cannot be upgraded after you receive the device. Yikes.

ETA: This is according to an Apple sales chat rap.

Think you need to check the updated web site bud.

The MacBook Air 13 inch is still there, in all its glory, with all its legacy ports intact. The price hasn't increased, which makes it the absolute Mac bargain of the moment - £1099 for the 256GB version.

I had been interested in replacing my 2011 MBA with a rMBP, but can't afford one of the new ones. The old one I was interested in (13" rMBP 512GB) is still for sale but has just risen from £1399 to £1699.

Don't worry, Apple will update the desktop line up when they figure out how they can add $100-$500 to the lineup.

Or they'll just do it anyway and call it magical and revolutionary.

Very true. :( I feel the same way.

If many of the forex analysts are right about where the pound is headed against the dollar, the prices certainly won't be coming down in the UK in the next year or two. They'll be going up even higher.

What's interesting is those who own these platforms are all now shooting for highest possible premium pricing across their family of products. Surface from Microsoft is all very expensive, the Pixel stuff from Google is now priced identically to iPhone, and we have Apple bumping up their prices to fall more closely in line with Surface (having already started bumping up iPad pricing).
