They don't have to address the kindle fire.

"Our product is cheaper than yours" is not a good marketing strategy.

"Our product is worth $100 more than yours" is how apple has been successful.

What I got from the first iPad...
"Our product is worth $100 more than yours"...and..."Our product is cheaper than yours"

If Google and Amazon are selling their tablets at cost (or a loss even) there's no way Apple would sell this for $199.

Unless Apple wants to own the market. Price at $199, and it would pretty much kill the Kindle and all Android tablets.

Of course, it would eat into the $499 iPad market quite a bit too.

I see this selling for $299 for 8GB, $100 increment for 16GB and 32GB. Probably won't offer the 64GB.

$130 more if you want LTE.

I also think $299 will be the start for the iPad 'Mini'. However, I really think Apple is going to change some stuff tomorrow:

  • iPad now available in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB models for the same pricing as current options
  • iPad 'mini' available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models for $299, $399, and $499. Add an extra $130 for LTE. Will have a Retina display as well (however, not IPS).
  • iPod Touch Available in the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models for $299, $399, and $499.

The iPad 'Mini' and the iPod Touch could 'share' the same internals (processors, memory, storage sizes, etc) and would have the cheaper, non-IPS, retina display which would result in a cheaper cost of hardware design for the company, allowing them to sell it for the price of $299 while still making a profit.

Don't see the point in a mini iPad when you can just have the bigger one personally but if you want to use it for work I guess it make sense

Waiting for the Anti-Apple brigade to start with "it's just a smaller iPad".

The same people that complained about the original iPad "It's just a big iPod Touch". :D

SERIOUSLY?

So, now we all know everything what Apple is going to introduce tomorrow and next month? For real? What's going on with Apple?

Is this is true, then I think they need to do App Stores by devices. It will get to confused to buy an app for 3 different resolutions.

OF COURSE, we know what Apple is going to do tomorrow and next month! Why wouldn't we?

Tomorrow we will find out how close what we know about the iPhone 5 is to reality. We will have to wait a little longer for the iPad Mini reality check.

Why 4:3 when aren't they moving the iPhone away from 4:3 to ~16:9?

The iPhone is more for music, movies, and game consumption whereas the iPad also allows for a comfortable book and magazine reading experience. 16:9 is for movies and games and 4:3 is for books or other documents.

I for one am very excited about an iPad mini! I will find the smaller size much more acceptable to use in public.

I know they have different sized computers, but I just have a hard time understanding how they're gonna market this smaller iPad.

I mean, I'm almost 100% sure it will come out, but they advertise/push mobile devices way more than they do for Macs.

iPod touch. iPhone. iPad mini. iPad.

Interesting.
I already have a laptop and have no interest in a full-sized tablet like an iPad. I have thought about buying a Nook/Kindle for reading and simple games as (obviously) the iPhone is not particularly good for reading.

I'd buy this any day over the Nook/Kindle.

I am the customer they are targeting with it.

My guess is $299.

You don't think people would look at an iPad mini for $299 vs. an iPad retina for $499?

$200 isn't "just a little more" when you're talking about a total of $500....that's almost half.

Seeing as the Kindle fire 7" will go for $169
and Google's Nexus goes for $199

Apple will be stupid to price it at $299.
Personally, I think prices will start from $249

Call me crazy but there is no way this thing drops for $199 (as some like to think) let alone $299. This will start at $399 and go up from there. The iPods will own the $200-300 (and up) dollar window, The iPad mini will occupy the $300-400s (and up) and the current iPads will stay the same. $349 is not impossible but I don't see it.

Exactly. I have a Kindle (3G, keyboard, 3rd gen). It's really nice. I never read it, because I just can't comfortably read the d@mn thing. It's darkish gray text on somewhat not-so-darkish background.

To Amazon's credit, they just announced their new lineup, and the Kindle Paperwhite looks nice. Truly illuminated surface with all the benefits of e-ink. I'm actually pretty torn between a new Paperwhite or the iPad mini. Oh, the new Kindle is $119. Crazy cheap. Let's see what Apple does.

Oh no I know there's a market for it, I just wonder how they'll market it. Like I wonder what the commercials and ads will look like.

Like if they'll show both iPads in a clip or what exactly they'll say is the benefit of this smaller iPad.

Millions will buy it. I just wanna know what Apple will say about it.
