Look we're dancing around that fact it's OK to be the weaker position. Apple is (desktop computing, Samsung is (phones); so what? it doesn't make each product weaker if you enjoy it.

I'm just amazed to hear someone actually admitting that Samsung is "weaker" in phones. That's unusual.

But my point is "weaker" isn't bad. What wrong with a strong product in second or third place? You want one successful thing for every product category ever?

I just jumped ship from Android to iOS and i am loving it..its awesome.

everything is good until you saw top executive of a billion dollar company spent almost an hour on stupid animoji..thats stupid and immature. its hard to digest this kind of stupid facts.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. It appears the iPhone 8 is faster.

But as far as your data mining claim, it appears Android did not surpass Apple until 2016

Not sure about your sales claim.

This info came from TechRepublic, and Computerworld

I'm not talking about mobile apps attempting to data mine.... something that iOS developers cannot do without your explicit approval... I'm talking about the OS itself (aka Apple vs Google) mining your data for resale.

Not sure about your sales claim.

I don't recall making any sales claims.
[doublepost=1510014025][/doublepost]When Google was pulled before congress a few years back.... after the media discovered that they were tracking Android users location wherever they went.... they responded to congress by saying that it's all in the user agreement. There is a reason why Android requires you to have a Gmail account in order to have full functionality... and to use the Google app store. It's to tie you in fully to their data mining system. They are the single largest, and most successful, data mining operation on the planet. Everything they do is geared towards garnering your data.

This argument, that it's "Jealousy", "Dire conditions", "Desperation", is just a ridiculous argument with no basis in fact. I understand you guys and gals love your phones, but really why denounce something just because it competes? Look at it this way, for all the jabs Samsung took at Apple with the ad, maybe it will act as motivation to outdo them even more. Heck even maybe make their own displays some day.

You might not call it desperation... but why is Samsung still making fun of people for standing in line for the iPhone? I counted three references in Samsung's latest 60-second ad.

Samsung started that 6 years ago with the tagline "The Next Big Thing is Already Here"

Remember? It was 2011 with the launch of the Galaxy SII

Can Samsung get some new talking points? :p

Hey... at least Samsung is consistent.

But it might actually be jealousy. ;)

What a dumb response but hey I can sink to your level: how well does the iPhone X do with Samsung Pay, Bigbsby, Health, Notes, Gallery etc. GUESS WHAT BOTH PLATFORMS HAVE APPS UNIQUE TO THE PHONE so no benchmark test has any comparable meaning.

And by the way you never pointed out one app that the iPhone can run that that's available for android that the Samsung phones can't.
samsung pay is not as widely accepted as Apple pay..you have to accept that..and bigsby is a joke..worse than siri(siri is **** too)

Anything lacking is always a hint at why this "other" one is better.

You quickly get into the idea of "tuning it out unless its important to you" as the only way really.

whatever..it sounds stupid to see some senior guy spends hours on funny things..

I love iOS since the first iPhone and I’m typing on an iPhone X now. Video was still pretty funny and acccurate.

Hahahaha! How did I miss this? That commercial was cute and hilarious.

I’ll still be over here with my iPhone, but that was a funny commercial. Not bad, Samsung, lol

Say what you want, but that was an awesome commercial. Tastefully done. I considered buying a Note 8 this year, matter of fact.

The rice thing was so relatable.

edit -- Absolutely no reason to try and defend Apple or Samsung here, fellas. Let's just appreciate tech (and good marketing). :)

Are you kidding? Samsung making fun of Apple is worse than someone insulting your mother or making fun of your kids.

Getting excited for Apple to respond with an ad showing a Note 7 exploding...

they um... edited that out. also they had to get the girlfriend's double because the original one had burn marks on her face.

no this is is my first shot of whiskey, why?
[doublepost=1510022211][/doublepost]we all know ads are actually designed for their fanbase and function as an amplifier in an echo chamber.
In short: made by a samsung fanboy, for the samsung fanboy.

I've seen it. And what can it do? Is it faster than fingerprint scanners that even £300 Android phones have now? Is it more convenient? I haven't tried it but I saw the reviews who said it has about the same miss rate as TouchID, so it is not an improvement.

If you have to ask. For me it is a more natural interface than Touch ID ever was. Particularly for the other than unlocking the phone things. I now secure my email using Face ID. It seemed cumbersome using Touch ID but with Face ID it is natural. Means I can unlock my phone and hand it to my wife to use without her having access to my emails.

Notifications are much more useful with Face ID (only display what their contents are if I am looking at it).

After initially being very sceptical of Face ID it seems a clear improvement in overall interaction to Touch ID.

And just FYI Samsung and others will be spending the next few years trying to copy this years iPhone X features

OK, I'll bite. What X feature is Samsung going to be busy trying to copy? Given that it took Apple several years to catch up to many of the things Samsung already had, I'm sure their pipeline is probably on to other things. I hope they aren't working on animojis.

At the end of the day I pick the product from the company that isn't the single-largest, most entrenched data mining company on the planet.
[doublepost=1510010612][/doublepost]I do find it humorous that the Android/Samsung crowd is even in here. Must be a lot of insecurity going on.

It was a story about a Samsung ad... What do you expect? Some of us are not obsessed with a company and own products from Apple and Samsung.

You need to check your facts. In the US, Samsung Pay is accepted in about double the number of places as Apple Pay... Basically any place that has a magnetic card reader (via MST) OR NFC. Apple Pay only works with NFC.

The article was from 2014.....

Yeh, the Apple fans like to keep trotting out that old article.

you need to calm down..:):). people live outside US too;).

i am not apple fanboy. Iphone 8 plus is first apple device. I was looking at Note 8 but that TouchID turned me off.

The guy with the hair cut at the end is GREAT. All other aspects about the commercial is all user perspective. Get the phone you want. Both phones have great features.

Samsung is sounding more and more like a jealous, jilted ex-lover with all this.

The grapes sure are sour at this time of the year.

The article was from 2014.....

I clearly said “to start”. Even with Samsung at their highest sales in history they couldn’t even approach half of iPhone sakes.

Since this article in 2014 Samsung sales went on a 7 quarter decline while iPhone sales set record after record. Samsung has never had a phone match the success of the S4, and the S7/S8 have only succeeded in preventing the free-fall.

1. you bet animojis are being copied
2. true depth camera will be
3. the full phone being a screen (iPhone has 2nd highest screen to body ratio and its only below by 0.3 and its some random phone, much higher than Samsung though)
4. they are still trying to copy 3D Touch
5. actual facial recognition, not dumb useless unsecure iris scanning
6. the premium design
7. samsung is also 1/3 the speed/performance of the iPhone but lets be real they lost all ready.
8. Phone X has been given best screen, Samsungs phones are not color accurate, don't have HDR/as wide color gamit, and others look it up, the iPhone is far ahead. And no 4k means nothing.
9. the most important thing... the OS
10. front facing portrait mode or the built in effects for portrait mode

theres 10 reasons the iPhone X is ahead.
bonus: don't think Samsung has dual optic image stabilization
aspect ratio on samsung galaxy series is unusual

also Samsung is scared. they saw the enormous lines for the iPhone X, Samsung has never had a device that has ever been exploding* in popularity
*except actually exploding

Also Samsung never would exist to its extent without the iPhone (both because the idea of the phone itself and for the parts apple buys, Samsung will self destruct once apple leaves them as a supplier FYI, they copied and pasted the design early on to get traction as well, nor are they first in much of anything. and what they are first in is pure crap, then apple waits till it can be done without sacrificing and then Samsung copies them.

It's a good ad.

Critics: "Look at the free advertising they gave Apple."
Reality: It targets Apple users, particularly the cult of Apple, so showing another product is not a problem. It highlights the lines and the hype for the same-old phone design for almost 10 years, a conservative design that lagged behind a lot of hardware improvements that were readily adopted elsewhere.

Not shown: how dog crap Android is, why you would want to use a stylus with a phone, the spyware on apps as simple as flashlight apps, and cases where Android phones lagged behind or had to play catch-up (Retina displays, Touch ID, Apple Pay, garbage 8231 megapixel cameras that produce inferior images, etc.).

Taking a knock at the cult of Apple is good thing. Apple is not some rebel indie company that's changing the world anymore; they are just another mega corporation fumbling to figure out the next best thing. Nothing about them screams "cool", and it's hard to be excited when year-over-year their main driving force is "thin". And they can't stop using the word "magic" to refer to things that obviously aren't.

Actor in the video kinda looks like Donald Glover (young Lando).

Age-old question, Ginger or Maryann?

It's usually Maryann and I think Samsung is the Maryann of the two. She cooks and works hard for them. Her and the Professor are the two most important characters in Gilligan's Island. Gilligan messes up alot but he works hard and has a good heart...

I think Apple are like the Howells (money) and Ginger (sex appeal). Conducts other suppliers like the Skipper. Google is also very dependent on Samsung to succeed. Google is not a hardware manufacturer, period. If LOST reference, Samsung is Sahid and Jack Shepard. Renaissance man.

All-around capabilities. Adaptable. Versatile. Lowest SAR. Into medical field, military, construction, shipping, cars, insurance, it goes on and on. Marry Apple, F Google or marry Google, F Apple, kill Samsung... Guess what? Industries die without Samsung.

MacGyver. Renaissance man. Samsung. They became bigger than Sony ever was. And Sony back in the 1960's-1980's with Trinitron and Walkman was bigger than Apple before Apple became big after the iPod. Samsung surpassed Sony's global influence as a conglomerate in multiple industries years ago.

I'm not even going to bite with this one. I just want to know where did you make up all of these assumptions up?! Your list is laughable at best, and goes against any possible facts. Lets start with sources at the bare minimum, as I would hate for someone who doesn't know any better, to actually believe your botched list.

In Japan people commonly exchanged their contact information by beaming it between the two cell phones using infrared. This is because phone numbers were used for calls only, and messaging was done through email, so it saved them from having to enter all the info (other person's name reading, phone number, and address) themselves. This has been a feature on Japanese feature phones going back probably two decades. This also caused some hesitation when smartphones came out that did not have infrared.

I'm not sure what they do now. Probably have a way of sending it through NFC. I think my (U.S.) Sony has such a feature, but I haven't looked to much into it.
