Still have the original mini and it's used by kids for their Osmo kit.

One thing — and I know everyone will disagree — I wish they would keep the home button. I have a 4 year old who is getting used to using the home button to switch between her school apps. Not sure she will grasp the pulldown concept.

The home button is so easy to show kids. Hell I'm still rocking an 8-plus phone so I live and die by the home button! :)

Don’t underestimate kids. A 1.5 year old kid can operate a gesture based modern iPhone.

if itʻs a smaller ipad air iʻm all for it. i donʻt need it to be a "pro" device, just no home button and smaller bezel, please.

Your 4 year old will take little to no time figuring out the new swipe gesture just like she did figuring out the entire iPad in the first place. They never cease to amaze me.

On his newly launched Front Page Tech website, leaker Jon Prosser has shared renders showing off the alleged design of the next-generation iPad mini, which he says are based on schematics, CAD files, and real images of the device.

In line with details shared earlier this month by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and Debby Wu, Prosser claims that the new iPad mini will feature slimmer bezels around the display and no home button, with Touch ID relocated to the power button like the latest iPad Air. The report adds that the new iPad mini will switch from a Lightning connector to USB-C and will be equipped with "dramatically improved" speakers.

According to Prosser, the new iPad mini will be powered by the A14 chip, support 5G, and have compatibility with a new, smaller Apple Pencil. The device will launch by the end of the year in three colors, including black, silver, and gold.

The report claims the new iPad mini will have dimensions of 206.3mm x 137.8mm x 6.1mm, but no display size was offered. The current iPad mini has a 7.9-inch display, and Bloomberg has claimed the new model could have an 8.5- to 9-inch display. The rear shell looks similar to the current iPad Air, with a single camera and a Smart Connector.

Prosser has a mixed track record with Apple rumors. He accurately revealed that the new iMac would be available in a variety of colors, but he was mostly recently wrong about a new MacBook Pro being announced at WWDC this week.

While Prosser isn't exactly winning points with accurate predictions lately, and as much as I am truly a huge fan of the iPad mini 4/fifth generation form factor, this makes only too much sense. This new body style is clearly the future of iPads and anything earlier is obviously on borrowed time.

Also, you don't have Apple making as huge of a fuss over how they were able to move Touch ID to the Sleep/Wake button and how doing so was a huge feat of engineering, only for it to appear in a single model of iPad.

That’s the mini we should get, hopefully Apple decides not to recycle the design again. Unless it’s “recycled” from the current iPad Air 4 which is more than okay with me.

The iPad mini is in a weird place right now. When it came out, it was on par with the then-iPad air in terms of chips. Now it is equivalent to the most basic iPad. You pay a bit more for the laminated screen and deliberately mismatched storage sizes.

Here's what I'd like to see happen. Kill the iPad mini.

Introduce this new 'mini' as a variant of the iPad Air. iPad Pro supports two screen sizes (12.9" and 11") - make iPad Air have 10.9" and 8.9" (or whatever it is) and the latest and greatest processors (maybe not latest... skipping the odd-numbered As would be alright, not everyone updates their iPad every year). Then iPad Air starts at $499.

Rework the basic iPad and iPad mini. There were rumours of iPad getting the Air 3 chassis... lump them together (either with both having laminated screens, or neither?) and keep the old form factor around. This new mini looks great for consumers but not so great for a lot of commercial applications, or younger kids/education. Drop the price further on the current mini so they both start at $329 and it's just a screen size choice.

that mini looks so cute. I’m happy with my 11” pro but there is something special about that little mini. makes me wish apple would release a much bigger iPhone. I have a pro max and would love a bigger phone. Give me an 8.0-8.5” iPhone!

M1 won’t be going into iPad mini, iPad Air or entry-level iPad
I kid on a technicality but totally agree that my wallet is ready for a mini as described in the rumor. A14 makes sense but I wouldn’t completely rule out A15 if it’s out later than iPhone 13 since Apple likes to let the mini languish for so long with no updates. I also agree A-series chips will likely separate consumer iPads from M-series Pros.
