Don't believe apple would impose so many screen resolution changes to developers so quickly. This is a false rumor.

I thought about this as well, but it's actually not changing the resolution at all. There would just be a space to put stuff for your app where before you couldn't. Not a big change.

Not sure if they'll be able to pull this off and have it ready for mass production in 2019 but would love to see it happen. I dont mind the notch but a notchless iphone X with the sensors/front camera under the display would be a thing of beauty.

That 2nd Gen 2020 phone will be the one to get. The S model of the no notch.

Not possible. Didn't they get the memo the notch is the distinguishing feature of the X and without it nobody will know it is an Apple phone. Everyone with any class loves the notch.

Are you saying a lack of notch by 2019 is as obvious as a camera/processor upgrade in 2019, or are you agreeing with me? Sorry, be patient with me, I don't do well "reading between the lines".

Reading between the lines, I would say that AutisticGuy was being facetious about having sources. Apple upgrades the camera and processor every year, and you don’t need inside sources to realize that it will happen again this year.

It's not just about the glass - it's about the glass & the OLED (or LCD). Some of these sensors are basically cameras, so there needs to be an aperture to capture light. How's the aperture going to get all the light bouncing off the desired object (e.g. the face) if it's partially or entirely obscured by OLED/LCD electronics?

Working transparent display has already been demonstrated years ago. Just put sensors behind this display technology then make the portion of the display go from opaque to transparent when sensors need to be used. We already have physical home button in screen along with fingerprint so camera is next. No need for fugly low tech notch.

Hey Apple: while you're shrinking the notch, how about shrinking the price as well?

Imho price is okay. U r buying a top piece of technology dude so it cost. 4 me it really worth and i would pay double if needed cause i like when females c me with my iPhone 10 u know what i mean? Just wanna a gold model with a much bigger backlighted logo. I like the notch because it shows its the new iPhone

LOL at a rumor 2-years out from ET news? Hahaha
The latest rumor:
Apple is dedicating its full notch capacity to a chain of giant notches that will marquee those glass ApplePark walls and doors.
To save those from further drama with injuries, but also to track all leaking employees with an integrated surveillance system taking 20k ultrafast snapshots per second.
But hey, PSSSHT...keep this between us.

I want a pronounced notch that lets others know I have the latest, most expensive iPhone, and they don't. I also want the notch to allow me to differentiate from iPhone X commoners. Maybe put the notch on the bottom or the sides to make it so?

Now I understand their notch strategy, There will be 3 years worth of notched iphones out there and then when the notch-less one comes out, EVERYBODY will buy one.

I wonder if everyone on here who supports and claims to like the notch, will be refusing to buy the 2019 onwards iPhones as they no longer have this feature...?! ;-)

I saw people liking the notch, but nobody who claimed to PREFER it to a notchfree bezelless phone.

Exactly... People here have a tendency to take what others say out of context and twist into whatever they wish it to mean..

I like the notch and it does not bother me one bit. I assume the 2018's will have a smaller notch and at some point Apple will find a way to completely do away with it. Will that happen by 2019? I have my doubts as the rumor is from ET News (lol) and is predicting something almost 2-years away.

If the notch stays the same it would not bother me
If the notch shrinks it would not bother me
If the notch goes away, while keep a bezel less design it would not bother me

Some people just need to use made up, twisted and taken out of context remarks but hey, it's the internet...

Sort of how everybody (#not) will buy a notched phone after three years worth of milking the iPhone 6 design?

The notch, and smaller notch, and no notch all create completely different requirements for software design. The App Store is already a mess with Apps that have not been properly updated because developers are greedy and lazy and Apple doesn't enforce anything with any real gusto.

When Apple went with the notch, I thought for sure that meant an investment of at least 2-3 years in this design. It takes that long for the software world to come around.

A major change every 12 months to the iPhone UI does not benefit anyone.

I've heard rumors that they're going with two notches instead.

You guys know how we'll end up with a notch-less design and "no bezels" right? It's basically going to be an S8/S9 looking phone where there's a small top and/or bottom space (because cameras and speakers have to go somewhere) and zero side bezel but without the curved display - which even Samsung is curving less and less each year. Ultimately the designs of these phones are going to be identical to achieve what everyone wants and at that point you'll just be picking your OS.

We already have all the technology to embed sensors in screen including speakers. The notch is just cheaper to implement and more profitable.
