Maybe in the process of ditching the notch they can find some way to put the camera under the display, perhaps in the center of the phone. That way when you're doing a video chat – and looking at the screen – you're not looking slightly away from the camera.

"Breaking news: Future products are better than those we have right now! Read all about it!"
Not about that only the fact that most who "love" the notch right now will absolutely be disgusted by it in the future if it gets removed. Take for example the Amoled screens. Apple users always criticized the Amoled Screens until* it has been added to the iPhone and now most can't go back to LCD :D

I wonder if everyone on here who supports and claims to like the notch, will be refusing to buy the 2019 onwards iPhones as they no longer have this feature...?! ;-)

I think liking the current model and liking one without a notch aren't mutually exclusive. It's not like people bought it because a notch was such a selling point.

LOL.

People bought it because they tallied up the features and decided the notch wasn't enough of a disappointment to skip the phone.

I cannot imagine most people saying "No notch? Forget it."

It’s going to upset a lot of owners who are in love with the notch.
Honestly, I think the notch is an experiment from Apple. How ridiculously bad can we make the display and see if Android manufacturers copy it. Well, they did. Wait till they have churned them out then release a phone without a notch.

Honestly, those who love the notch now (purely purchase justification) will instantly hate it the moment Apple release an updated iPhone X without the notch.

Equally as low tech as the notch is a pop-up camera sensor and this is the company that Apple copied the notch from.

The Notch isn't low tech (do you even know what it is?), and no, Apple didn't copy the notch from Essential. The iPhone X had already been in development way before Essential revealed their phone. Apple even bought the facial recognition company who worked on the X way before the essential was revealed.

Also, moving parts on a phone aren't a good idea at all, especially when they contain fragile components and protrude from the device itself.

I don't think its an experiment. It's the only way they could find to market the edge to edge display since there would be no other way to fix all the top sensors.

Saved $1850 (or $2000) this year and next year. Will see the iPhone 2020 January and decide

The iPhone X reminds me of another poorly designed Apple product. The Powermac G4 mirror door. What a misbegotten looking thing that was.

The days of the notch are numbered.

The rumors are getting really crazy, the notch is signature form, now it will be smaller, then will disappear, also 3 iPhone sizes.

I have the X and I don't love or hate the notch. Actually, it has kind of grown on me. That being said, I wouldn't miss it either.
I respect your opinion although that's the funny attitude most Apple users have, it's like "Apple made this bad although it's grown on me" like people are supposed to begin liking something that is ridiculous just like a Notch at the top. You make a good argument too "I wouldn't miss it either.".

Has there been anyone who said they prefer the notch to nothing at all? I prefer the notch to a solid black bar (because I don't have to have another bar underneath it reserved by the system for displaying network and battery info).

It also should be obvious that since a bezel-less and bar-less screen cannot be rectangular (unless the device winds up with pointy corners), and you have to hold the phone somewhere, apps cannot treat the whole screen as a generic display surface without taking into account clipping and tap difficulty anymore.

The people love the notch right now because the only alternative is a bezel. Given the option of a notch, or no notch and no bezel, of course they will choose the latter.

There's nothing wrong with this. I loved my iPod Touch 4 at the time but would I go back to it now? Not a chance.

It's still making the content on top look weird especially when watching videos or playing games.

Apple tends to re use components over 2-3 generations for economy of scale so I'd be very surprised if the 5.8 is any different. Maybe the larger model will be, or maybe it just looks it relative to the bulk of the phone. I guess we'll see later in the year.

I don't find the notch ridiculous; I just think it's a good compromise with the available tech. I think the notch is better than the alternative of not using the space at all and making the screen smaller. If they did that, I would still have my 7 Plus.

But if there is not notch, how will people standing next to you know how fancy your phone is?
