Well its a larger phone so I'd hope so.. That's like saying the Note 8 has a larger screen than an SE...
Let me guess, you have always advocated: not having any large Top/Bottom Bezels, PRIOR to the iphone X? Not sure what iPhone you have been using prior to its recent design change...The samsung is a larger device, with a higher resolution as well, but it takes more use of its screen with the ability to multitask. Same with other Android phones. As well as not having a stupid notch, obstructing content.

Not at all. The far, Far, FARRRR superior phone is the one with the fruit logo on the back. That makes it look completely different than all of the others, obviously superior or even perfection in a phone...

...until Apple rolls out a subsequent model. ;)
I think the fruit is even too Perfect for the word percect /s

I wonder if everyone on here who supports and claims to like the notch, will be refusing to buy the 2019 onwards iPhones as they no longer have this feature...?! ;-)

I haven't seen anyone claiming to love the notch - rather, it's a completely insignificant detail of the phone. After 30 minutes or so of using the iPhone X, the notch kinda just feels normal and disappears into the whole experience of the phone.

Sure, smaller notch or no notch would be an improvement. But disliking the phone solely because of it is silly.

It's a design choice and disliking the design of a phone is one of the most influenciable things when you are going to waste your money on it.

So just another notch rant --> Gotcha!

There are many people who apparently don't like the notch, and it veered those same people from buying it. Put a notch on every display you own, and let me know if it obstructs your visibility of the display. Have you ever wondered why pretty much every display is either Square (4:3, old display tech) or rectangular (16:9/18:9/21:9, etc), with no notches?

False. Apple has directly come out and said they never tried the Touch ID under screen and instead decided to scrap fingerprint authentication for Face ID from the beginning.
They sure have, and if you believe that, I’ve got a bridge for sale in Brooklyn... it’s a little bit used, but the price is right.

Apple can get away with the notch because of general desirability etc, meanwhile they've managed to convince all the churned out Android copycats that it's a good idea and kept them busy scrambling to clone it (instead of innovating) while they work on getting rid of it again. Stroke of genius!

Gone to plan here, I got a well priced 8+ and won't have to worry about all this by the time I'm ready to upgrade.

The S8 and S9 are nice hardware, but people who want a dream iPhone want iOS. Plus, they still have top and bottom bezels and weird design quirks.
I thought we were talking about the notch not OS. I have both S8 and iPhone 8. No notch for me.

Like I, and many others, have been saying.
I hope this shows the frustrating forum users who were certain that Apple loves the notch for nonsensical reasons, the most annoying of which is ‘if they didn’t like it, the iPhone X wouldn’t have a notch’ and ‘it will stay because it’s iconic’. If you thought Apple doesn’t mind or will keep the notch around without the aim to get rid of it then you are deluded.

It's not the notch, but the EARS to its left and right that everyone is upset about. If the ears were always black, people would merely say "they still have a bezel along the top, it's just a partly software one, look how clever they put status info up there. Sure, a slight bezel complaint, but nothing like the "notch" complaints we have now.

We were, but someone mentioned a notch-less iPhone X as the dream iPhone. You or another poster referred to the S8 as a response. I was simply stating that an S8 wouldn't ever be considered a "dream iPhone" as it runs Android. It's also not an all screen phone either, so it would not be close to a dream iPhone at all. Quite the opposite.

What would be the point? Face ID has advantages as it is and it will only get better. By the time you look at your screen and identify where to put your finger, your phone would be unlocked with Face ID. There is no point to go back to fingerprint scanning when you have a method that requires no physical input.

I see your point. I still feel Face ID was a last minute add on. I’ll wait and see what happens. Touch ID works the best for me. If that means 4 years with an 8+ then so be it. :apple:

Imagine if your TV, laptop, and every display you own, had a notch? NO THANKS :apple:!

It would indeed be annoying to see a notch while watching 16:9 video on a 16:9 screen, but that's not what's happening with the iPhone X. The notch does not affect the displaying of 16:9 video.

To be fair, I NEVER saw anyone claim to like the notch, only that they don't care.

Well to be fair, you clearly haven't been looking. I've seen hipster tossers writing articles on tech sites crapping on & on about the "design genius" & "glorious innovation" and how the notch makes the phone "distinctive" & "uniquely Apple"

I think people underestimate the amount of work it took to take tech behind the Kinect, miniaturize it to fit in a phone, and then implement 3D facial scanning for security purposes and work as well as it does. I am sure it took years to develop. It's totally reasonable to prefer Touch ID, a lot of people are not very quick to take on new tech like that, the X was a big shift, but it will become better and better over time. I think you'll be tempted to make the switch sooner than you think. If not, the 8 Plus is as solid as it comes.

All that means is: Most of youtube videos will play fine, and some Tv shows on netflix. But most movies from over the years with widescreen cinema, will not look good on the ipx. Either the notch will obstruct the display, or you have to deal with large borders.

It cuts the left side of the video unless it's zoomed out then it just makes the video small and the sides of the screen become useless.

But it doesn't cut anything off of a standard 16:9 video. The only time the notch affects any video content is if you zoom IN on 16:9 content, at which point you're also cutting off the top and bottom of the image.

There really seems to be a lot of confusion about how aspect ratios work. The old phones were 16:9 and a notch would have interfered with video. The X is 19.5:9 and the notch doesn't extend past the side bars that would always be present anyway.
