What am I missing ?

You need to use the Music app on the watch to play your playlist. You can have both the Music app and NRC open at the same time. Double click the digital crown to toggle between them if needed.

The NRC watch app doesn't support playlists when used without the phone.

Just open the Music app on the watch, select the watch as the source, and play the music from there.

Pause/resume via headphone controls.

Start NRC watch app and go for a run.

Shot ! Will try it out.

Was hoping that the NRC watch app would control the music by default without having to switch ...

Thanks ! Will do. Makes sense now.

It'd be nice if it did, but at present it doesn't so we do what we have to. :|

Since I rarely change up my music during a run it hasn't been a problem to use the separate Music app.

Even more annoying is the lack of support for podcasts. I enjoy listening to Podrunner and other podcasts when running, which is a royal PITA to make happen on the AW2 in stand-alone mode.

Can I also run with apple activity app and my run is synced into nike nrc?
I am asking because displaying heart rate is on apples watch face when running much bigger.

No. someone on one of the other Nike threads said this feature was in there at one time, but seems to have been removed in the more recent updates.

I am torn between the Apple Space Grey Sport vs. Nike Space Grey. Does any one know if there is a comparable app to the Nike app that comes with the Nike Watch? If so, I will just buy the regular version and download a similar app. I could care less for the faces or the band.

The Nike app can be downloaded from the App Store. If you aren't interested in the band or the Nike Watch face, then there is absolutely no reason to get the Nike Watch.

Once I felt the comfort of the Nike bands it was a no brainer - the perforated holes make all the difference.

Used the NRC app on the watch a couple of times now and it seems to be quite buggy. First run seemed to be tracked ok but on my second run it doesn't seem to have GPS mapped the route at all and the NRC iPhone app is just showing it with no map display at all. Also on the watch NRC app it is showing my "Last Run" on the first page as the correct distance but nothing for it on the third page where it gives your November stats.

Only difference between my first and second runs was i switched on the advanced setting (thanks to folks on this thread for helping me find it!) :)

Think i'll be swapping back to the standard watch activity app until these issues hopefully get sorted...

The only difference between the two are the items you say don't matter to you... (I'm assuming you meant you couldn't care less)

You could just get the Nike+ version and buy a conventional band for it if you don't like the Nike+ band. You can't do the reverse, at least at present and with a real Nike+ band. Which also means you could likely make a more selling a real Nike band than a conventional one would cost to buy.

It would show in your NCR app on iPhone.
I've got the same problem. it seems syncing is not working really stable. I did 3 runs with Apple Watch Nike+ (without phone) and only 1 of them synced the map to the phone.
Nike: please fix this soon! It should be stable!

I'm 3 for 3 so far; non-phone AW2 NRC runs and successful syncs to NRC on the phone and Nike+ website.

Thanks for your input. It all comes down to the Regular Sports band vs. the Nike band now. Based on some of the posts above, the NRC app does not seem too stable so I may end up using the default app. Regardless, if I am leaning towards the Space Grey Sport and buy a knock off Nike band, would that be a good option? I see myself wearing the Sports band more often i.e. for daily use and the Nike band only when I am running. I imagine using the regular band when doing cardio/working out should be just fine.

Thoughts?

I bought a $10.99 knock off Nike band/black/volt. Have used it on 6 runs-49 miles. No issues, definitely lighter. Quite similar to numerous running watch bands, including my current Garmin235.It works for me.

Have you tried the official Nike band in the Apple Store? If so, do you see any major differences between the knock off and the one in the store?

Largely irrelevant to your choice since the NRC app is usable by owners of each model.

My experience with the app is pretty solid. While it has room for improvement, in four runs so far it has performed with no issues. I have a map and track for each run; I change, go outside, start the app and pause it while I do a few quick stretches (couple of minutes), then unpause and run. Same as I've done with every other GPS watch I've owned, and doing this has avoided all sorts of GPS lock issues.

If there are indeed real issues with the app, I expect Nike will address them in due time.

Good is a qualitative thing only you can decide on. As for me, I'd be swapping bands six to ten times a week with that plan and I'd quit bothering after the third day.

I have the gray/black Nike edition. The band is comfortable and I wear it all day in an office environment. I've not found myself wishing for a different band.

Personally, the Nike band is so comfortable, I'm wearing it all the time. The only reason I can think of for people to switch between the regular Sports band and the Nike band is if for some reason the holes don't work with the look they are wearing. But if you get the black/grey band, which I have, I can't imagine it not working with anything that works with the regular black Sports band.

So what I would recommend is to buy the Nike Watch, and get knock off regular Sports band if you want. The regular Sports knock-offs have been out for more than a year now and it is easier to get solid user recommendations on which ones are good quality.

I have. Honestly, I can't see a $40 difference. I know several have posted that the knock offs are crappy. I am quite happy with it. Have several other knock off bands and have/had no issues with them.
Had I been more mature and waited for the Nike + edition, but at my age, I want what I want, when I want it.
My only regret is you can voice control to start, pause or stop a run w/o a phone. Sadly, I missed that in reading about them. Most I read it would present little motivators-" did you run today?", etc. With over 40 years of running-over 85,000 miles I didn't think I needed that. I have a dedicated running watch- Garmin 235 and never really thought of my AW2 purchase as a running watch. But, for the not too serious runner it works ok. I guess that defines me as a "serious" runner. Nick :)

I'm 1 for 1 with my Nike+, NRC on watch, Music on watch and bluetooth headphones.

Music worked flawlessly, thanks for the tips in this thread. Siri obviously doesnt work so skipping a track is manual.

Synced back to the mothership, aka iPhone perfectly when I arrived back home.

Now Apple please ship those darn Airpods already dammit.

I'm seriously impressed.

Add my swimming in a 50m pool with splits and the AW2 is exceeding my expectations.

Let me be clear.

I own the Nike+ edition.

With no phone and no wifi connection, Siri does not work to pause or otherwise control Nike Run Club on my watch. Attempts to use Siri result in the message "No Siri Connection Neither Apple Watch nor iPhone can access Siri." displayed on the watch screen.

It *does* work if the watch has a wifi internet connection but cannot connect to the phone. This is the feature that initially fooled me; the watch was connecting to the internet via my home wifi during initial testing with my phone in airplane mode. In later testing away from home, where the watch had no wifi connection, Siri failed to work without my phone.

Again, this is with the Nike+ edition watch.
