Ive been following up on stock i different stores in Denmark. This week there suddenly the stock went up from very few to 50+ and 100+, this is not a good sign for a july 25th release.

MAybe we have to wait until october...../

Why do people think October????

What's different to March, May, June and July?

No way will it be the same month as the iPhone release.

I really hope that the existence of Ivy Bridge Geekbench scores means that it will be July 25. Now that all of the hardware is generally available, just freaking release the thing. Putting newer components on the production line for the same chassis probably has very little cost to Apple, particularly as the production of older parts scales down over time. There has to be a point of diminishing returns on waiting.

I agree. The parts are there. Just throw them in the same damn chassis and release it as a spec bump. That would at least keep alot of people, including myself, happy. Instead Apple is going to have people who've already waited a year wait until 2013??? I really don't understand the logic behind this.

It's also possible that the delay is Apple's attempt to sell down their stock of 2011 iMacs as much as possible.

If the next iMac is merely a spec bump, then no problem moving the 2011 iMacs through the refurb store. If instead the next iMac has the "new anti glare screen", that may make it more difficult to sell the old stock.

Two things we know for sure:

1. The leaked benchmark that is possibly legit
2. Apple PR clarifying iMac will be released this year

So, i think there are 2 main chances to see an iMac updated this year:

1. With ML on 07/25, spec bump confirming early benchmarks and last year scenario. By the way rumors should begin to surface in the next few days, or we can say goodbye to any hope.

2. Fall release with a redesign + Retina Display. Doesn't make sense releasing a spec bump with an aged Ivy Bridge in the fall, in the same timeframe with iPhone and maybe the rumored 7" iPad. Also you have to wonder why those benchmark, that happened to be true for the MacBook, got out so early.

Did you even read the article you linked to?

"Apple PR has reached out and clarified that only the Mac Pro is expected to be next updated in 2013. The company had no comment about the iMac..."

perhaps but that means no imac in 2013 so one this year is a must?

Patience

Guys, i don't blame you for being impatient but, the Imacs are coming out when apple releases it. Just wait until they release it and... Theres the imac you've been waiting for, not all rumors are true. They'll release it soon enough. ;)

"Apple PR has reached out and clarified that only the Mac Pro is expected to be next updated in 2013. The company had no comment about the iMac..."

Initially, Pogue from NYT, after the chat with Apple spokesman, wrote about a desktop line update coming in 2013. Apple PR than reached out only to clarify that the update coming in 2013 they were talking about was related to the Mac Pro. Either Apple is completely giving up on iMacs, or it's a clear message that it's coming this year.

They'll release it soon enough.
They will not. "Soon enough" was last month or earlier.
Pro's have needed an updated mac pro for over a year now, so no... they will not release "soon enough" at all. It is very clear that Apple cares not for "soon enough".

You initially said:

The article you linked to most definitely does not lead us to "know for sure" that an updated iMac is imminent.

I want a new iMac as bad as anyone, but this sort of misinformation does nothing but give the casual readers of this forum false hope. To be clear, Apple representatives have said nothing to suggest that an updated iMac is imminent or even coming this year (or ever, for that matter).

For those waiting, watch Tim Cook's interview at D10:

https://www.macrumors.com/2012/06/11/full-video-of-tim-cooks-d10-interview-now-available/

You'll get more insight than reading the rumour sites. What stood out for me is his comments on refresh times, and the doubling down on secrecy.

Same position here. I'm not sure why Apple cannot make some sort of announcement regarding the refresh...

1> Joe Public doesn't read the tech press/blogs so I'm not sure how much of a dent an announcement would put into existing sales. It's not like the news would be reported across all media in the same way as a new iPhone.

2> Those of us that do read tech press/blogs would be happy with the info and be much less inclined to spend our money on rival machines.

Lee

We're Joe Public and we're on a tech blog. Information about one of the biggest technology companies in the world doesn't stay on tech blogs for long. People investing £1000+ on a computer do their research before purchasing.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced that Apple is just not interested in this market anymore. Wouldn't be surprised if the next iMac is that last.

Like i just said, do you really think Apple is going to leave the iMac line unupdated until 2014? Apple did not "say nothing", it clearly went out contacting Pogue, after the initial interview, just to correct him on that 2013 update, related to Mac Pro only.

That's like a pretty bold statement, it's not "saying nothing".

Having decided a while back to make my first mac purchase an imac i have been holding off till the new one is released. My Ageing 17" laptop has now started to get far too long in the tooth and today i went to the Glasgow Applestore to take a look at the rMBP to see if it would meet my needs.

Have to say it looks very nice, but my mobile an d non browsing needs are met by my ipad and the non retina apps didnt look good on the screnn at all. (i know this is supposed to be fixed in LM). Main thing is though that amazing 27" screen is just so cool! and the restricted storage on the rMBP is really putting me off.

What's another few months eh - I am sure it will be worth it and a night will come when we are all sitting eagerly ordering and seeing whose is delivered first! v;)

Either is out this month, or next, or maybe september, or november, which ever it is. It will be released sometime. If not, Apple will get a lot of people angry.

You know, at times I think of Apple as a company that has gone up so so fast, and you know what the laws of physics say, "everything that goes up, must come down". Its just a matter of cycles, but the thing is how long is Apple's cycle going to take.

With certainty.

We know a few things for sure.

Firstly, Apple either will or will not release a new iMac either now or sometime after now.

Secondly, some people are upset, and some will be upset or more upset if an iMac is not released sometime this month of July.

Thirdly, there are cheaper viable alternatives to Apple computers, and some people may opt for these alternatives.

So in reality, we know almost nothing of real relevance to what we would most like to know. Apple will keep it that way, and most of us will still buy their products. The most desperate of us (and I'm not judging), will do the very thing that will further encourage this PR model, and that is to buy a 2011 iMac in the lead up to the new release.

In the meantime, rumours can be fun. :)

Best Buy website is advertizing Apples on sale..... It may be a sly trick to sell computers though.

I'm not so sure it's that they aren't interested at all, it's just clear that they do far better in the mobile sector so that's where their development resources are clearly focused.

Apple does not release Macs during the months of November or December.

Unfortunately, the culmination of Apple's actions the past few years has greatly reduced my faith in them as a company. The neglect of Mac in favor of iOS was once ... nearly acceptable. However, iOS is falling behind Android and Apple is still pushing it as the best thing ever. Soon I think the Mac OS may fall behind as well.

So let them release an iMac whenever the heck they want. It will be a different product released by a very different company, one that I'm not sure I want to do very much business with anymore (and it can't be said I'm just talking - this iPhone 4 is going to be replaced by a Galaxy S3 soon).

Effin' *********.

Ivy bridge hardware is already aging, they need to release the new iMac. If it's not out with ML then I'm buying a 2011 model.

So sick of this waiting in the dark BS, I'm done after the ML release!

Aging how?? Ivy bridge just got released on April 23 this year.

Working the apple store employees for information seems to work well. I asked a guy "hey the new IMAC is coming out the 25th right?" Response "I believe The IMAC was just updated under 30 days ago" cheese and rice. Optical thunderbolt cable? Is this France, wtf are you talking about. He say's. Well the second part was a fib, but holy smoke it's like talking to a wall.

2012 iMac

There was no reason for Apple to not use Intel Sandy Bridge E along with Radeon 7970 or GTX680 on their MacPro as well.

There was no reason either for Apple to not upgrade Mac Mini line since they're basically a headless 13" MBP. So why they were holding up while it uses the same hardware.

But you know the history. Lamest MacPro upgrade of all time at WWDC 2012? Just because all hardware available doesn't mean Apple going to use it right away, especially on desktop product, which Apple don't think much about.

You don't have to agree with me here, but Apple spec bumps hardly bound to hardware manufacturers. They'll release it when they release it.

I would be really surprised if we don't see the 2012 iMac released with ML. They have the new chip now, just have to add in a bigger HD, USB 3.0.....can't see why they need any more time to put out a new iMac, the time is very ripe in my opinion.
