I'll start considering the possibility that the iMac is dead if we make it to the 2013 WWDC without an update. Really, I think it's highly likely it just comes out next week and the delay was primarily the 680M. If it doesn't, then maybe Digitimes wasn't bending over and speaking with their rear after all.. though I still have trouble reconciling an iMac release in iOS shine time.

Really the only reasons it wouldn't be released this month are:
1. There is a major redesign in progress. (casing changes and/or retina display)
2. Apple trying to clear inventory and/or holding back for marketing purposes.

#1 I can see happening and while it will mean I won't be going iMac this time around, I wouldn't hold it against Apple.

#2 I personally find completely unacceptable.

I guess what I'm saying is if there is a delay beyond July, it better be because they are doing much more than a minor (but entirely necessary) spec bump.

It's just that wishful thinking hasn't helped much in the world of Apple these days.

Well, humans instinctively fear the unknown. Some people rationalize all of the possibilities less quickly than others, so I suppose it shouldn't be surprising that there are some doomsday theories out there.

The reality is nothing we say or think is going to will these iMacs into existence or cause Apple to discontinue the line or anything in between. Staying positive has been much less stressful for me personally, and so long as my 2007 model doesn't become a giant pile of goo in the middle of playing Diablo I should remain so.

2. Apple trying to clear inventory and/or holding back for marketing purposes.

Given that Apple has been shown to turn over inventory in about 5 days, and 2011's aren't exactly flying off the shelves, I don't see this one being in the cards at all. If there's a delay beyond next week, then Apple is working on something major.

Apple is not like "everyone in the computer world" and never has been. You'll be sorely disappointed if you expect them to change. I am anxiously waiting for a new iMac also, but I know we will not be getting a heads-up from Apple before it drops. For Apple, the lack of pre-release hype is, in effect, the hype.

Just a hunch, but I doubt Apple is concerned about your potential defection. ;)

While I'm sure Apple couldn't care less about ONE customer, that sort of reasoning has ran many companies to the ground.
It's easy to feel invulnerable when you're at the top, but sometimes it doesn't last forever.

#2 stinks, we all know that. ;) Remember, Cook is the man that got Apple to near zero inventory. They sell-through in about a week, so weeks of delay has nothing to do with clearing inventory.

I know that no one is forced to do anything, but this stance basically "forces" people that need/want an iMac to buy an older machine. This is clearly aimed at not having any leftover machines.
Understandable, but unfair for the client, that is left in the dark.
My opinion...

Their childish secrecy is ****y, but effective. I guess the majority of people waiting for new iMacs will eventually end up giving them the money, be it for a new machine or an old one. The amount of customers they lose with their shitpolicy is obviously not high enough, otherwise they'd announce their devices. Anywhore, at the end of the day, we live, with or without Apple products.

interestingly enough i check on apple store around my area some of them have zero on stock and expected on july 23 ...hmmm this doesnt really mean anything but its kinda interesting that is that day they are getting it .. idk

Most likely it's nothing but thanks for sharing anyway. Some info is better than none. Most likely they will re-stock with the same old model or change the date close up to that day

Someone responded to an earlier quote of mine where I suggested that the majority of purchasers of iMacs have no knowledge of how old the existing model is saying that anybody spending £1000 and upwards would do their homework and have that information to hand. I have no issue with people who need an iMac now buying an iMac now, but I just cannot bring myself to spend exactly the same amount of money on a device that is now well over one year old as the day on which it was announced. Surely sales must be dipping quite a lot now. Does the iMac count for such a tiny percentage of profit these days that it doesn't really matter? I guess yes. Roll on the earnings call and the fun of trying to interpret (misinterpret more like) any comments made and how they relate to the iMac

I agree. It has obviously worked for them.
But if pile up bad experiences, you're bound to lose eventually.

The motto "buy now, since you don't know if anything is coming up soon!" is quite idiotic. We don't know, but they do! ;)

not sure what this means

Not sure if this is an indicator of a new iMac or not, but.....
my Disti (I am an apple reseller) has been trying to order stock for the last 2 months and it has been restricted, but now it looks like all iMac units (and especially 27") are due to have stock land on the 30/7/2012. and lots of stock as well. Fingers crossed.......

This could be really good or really bad news. If you get a bunch of new stocks of the same old iMac, it's time to cry :(

we won't see them as we direct ship, but I will be asking my AM to go to the warehouse and have a peek at the boxes.

Personally if it is not released with ML then I will be buying the old model. My old PC has the blue screen of death (for about 5 weeks now) and I need a desktop at home...

fingers crossed.

yes..
if this is a pile of the same... we are doomed.

Fingers crossed, indeed! This looks like the most plausible 'new iMacs after Mountain Lion' post I've seen yet.

Kinda makes sense too... 1 week after ML release, right? It has happened before after an OS upgrade?

Are they showing that stock with current model numbers? If so, not very encouraging . . .
