I'll post it again:

In Paris there is an Apple Event (for invited guests only) where the keynote will be shown live via satellite.
I'm pretty sure that Steve has some gr8 new products coming.

Like someone else stated I agree that if ThinkSecret had all the predictions correct, then the "surprize" is actually gone. Steve could be thinking "why bother, then".

I think its not live to make MWSF a more attractive conference to attend live, especially if your a techno journo.

Anyway, please let us know when Apple streams it...

It's probably too late to set up...

but put the SteveNote on Pay-Per-View (now before you start grumbling about paying for what used to be free) and then donate all of the proceeds to tsunami relief.

Just confirmed no satellite coverage confirmed

Was looking forward to satellite coverage of the Keynote address at my Univerisity. Just got the bad news. Very disappointed. :(

just plain stupid

I think it is just plain stupid that there will be no keynote coverage. Shouldn't you want to reach as many people as possible? And don't give me that it costs money excuse, apples swimming through their ipod money piles. I want to be in the info live, not hours later. I'm an american damnit, I want instand gratification!

<shameless plug>If it's sexual gratification you're looking for head to WikiAfterDark.com for adult oriented articles. help out and add some today!</shameless plug>

Don't just post in threads, complain to Apple

I would definitely encourage everyone to go complain at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/contactqt.html (this is where feedback concerning live apple feeds is supposed to go)

It may be too late to have an effect, but at least they will have a record of how many customers they pissed off.

The ironic thing is that killing the feed will only drive traffic _away_ from apple.com and towards rumor sites like AI, TS, and MacRumors who will report on things _during_ the keynote, as opposed to apple.com which will undoubtedly be "under construction" until the keynote is over.

So go complain!

Keynote speech has leaked?

This appears to be Steve's speech. I'm glad he's finally put his foot down..

;)

No live coverage :(
My brother and I have watched every live broadcast together, while we were on the phone (he lives a few states away)...sad. Guess we'll watch the rebroadcast...

But I think I can wait a few hours to see the new goodies...we already know they are coming...so whats a few hours? I'll sleep in ;)

Well someone had to come out, and put it honestly...

Jobs's punishment for the leaks. You don't get to see all these new toys, you naughty rumor mongers!

I guess someone must've also said something in defense of the leakers that pissed off Jobs.

I guess we all need to learn something from this (beside the fact that you could really hurt Apple by providing its secrets to the competition, and stealing Steve's thunder in a way that negatively affects the perception of a product). :(

So you are suggesting that we shut down Mac Rumors? ;)

I would like to see the goodies on the rebroadcast firsthand and not on the front page of apple.com. I want to be surprised, does anyone know what part of the apple site they play the video at?

Thanks,
Spencer :)

Do you realize how many people consider us Apple users zealots...
seriously, this is not the end of the world...
I used to try to watch the live feed, but too many people made it stutter so bad, I just wait until it's posted later. Just think of how much better it looks. Just think how much better quicktime looks.

But doesn't it take alot away from the experience if you already know what they are going to say? Personally I'm going to try to avoid any site that might have coverage of MWSF untill after the quicktime is posted. The problem is that the only way I can find out when the quicktime gets posted, without going to a rumor site where they'll have the coverage, is by constantly refreshing the Apple Quicktime page. :(

I hate to interject any reason into all the personal offense people are taking ;)

So I'll let AppleInsider do it:
http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=817

Apple's decision not to broadcast chief executive Steve Jobs' keynote presentation during next week's Macworld Expo was likely a result of pre-determined plans, and was not in retaliation to spoiled surprises, extremely reliable company sources said on Friday.

According to sources, live webcast video streams of events such as Jobs' keynote presentations, on average, are costly and yield few benefits to Apple as a company. As a result, in recent years Apple has scaled back on realtime webcasts in favor post-event video-on-demand steams, which reportedly costs the company much less.

Additionally, industry sources claim that preparations for live webcasts with mass appeal typically must be made well in advance of the event. Company sources believe such arrangements were never part of Apple's Macworld to-do list.

I have to contrast AI's good track record with the complete lack of ANY evidence to support the idea that Apple planned a webcast and then cancelled it to somehow hurt rumor sites  (Rumor sites which no doubt get MORE traffic when there ISN'T a live webcast.)

We need to learn something?! wtf... Apple needs to learn to find its moles.

anyone have a real ballpark dollar figure for the cost to Apple of a typical keynote webcast?

A couple hundred thousand, probably.
Does it matter? As long as the headless mac comes out, I won't care if I get the news on /. or even an email from Apple, I'll just want an order link and some assurance of delivery this quarter, while I can still get my student discount. :)

Damn, I would rather just have them shut down thinksecret and appleinsider :( I guess we are all like kids, that peeked in his christmas presents a few days too early, and spoiled the surprise..

I guess I'll never understand the Christmas present analogy since Christmas presents are free gifts, but you're the one buying Apple products...

I followed your advice. Maybe Steve will listen if a lot of us complain.

"I'm very disappointed to hear that Steve Jobs Keynote address on Tuesday January 11th won't be live via satellite to my local Apple Store. Viewing it on QuickTime later just isn't the same. It's just a great time had by all viewing it live at a local Apple Store. Please Steve reconsider. I have been an Apple customer since 1983."

This was there response:

Apple values your input, which helps us continue to improve our business practices and products. We recognize that our best advice comes from our customers, and we appreciate the efforts you've made to share your opinion with us.

Please note that while we read all feedback carefully, we can't always personally respond to messages sent through this channel.

I hope that more of your will do the same. :)

Pay-per-view?!

How about a solution a-la-iTunes?!

99 cents for the broadcast viewed on iTunes!?

Listen to us, Apple! ;)

Guess I'll actually get some work done on Tuesday after all.
Yeah, that was my first thought, too. :D

I talked with the manager of the Chandler Fashion Square Apple Store tonight, and he confirmed they weren't showing the SteveNote. Bummer.
