as a former Verizon customer

I can only wonder how many

1) Hidden fees will be tacked onto the advertised monthly fee
2) if they will indeed commit to tiered pricing
3) if their service is remains as poor

and 4) if their termination fees remain higher than AT&T.

I'm terminating my iPhone for a non-smart phone in December and Verizon is not an option.

If they do sell an iPhone, I hope none of the grievances I have with the company will be passed onto iPhone users.

I, for one, can only hope the iPad stays with AT&T because if that goes to Verizon, I will ultimately purchase a wifi only iPad.

I will never buy a Verizon iPhone. It's CDMA. YOU CANT USE IT IN ANY OTHER COUNTRY. It doesn't use SIM cards or anything like it!! Forget resale value. Forget international travel.

Verizon iPhone = useless America-centric brick

Verizon == Vodafone. Same company. So the 'America-centric' bit doesn't hold water.

1) Yes, same hidden fees at AT&T
2) Yes, they have already announced it
3) Poor is relative. In many areas AT&T service is poor. Overall Verizon has better coverage. Of course things vary in different parts of the country.
4) It's $25 higher...big deal

Why would you purchase a WiFi only iPad just because Verizon carries one? Do you injur yourself when you see someone on the street wearing the same shirt you're wearing??? Odd.

LMAO, it's pathetic to see some of these butthurt, whining fanboys cry about "Bwaaahhh! No way can iPhone come to another carrier, and therefore be accessible to more people, and therefore others can have the same phone I have! Bwaaaa!!!"

Like, does it really effect your life that much, for the iPhone to be on Verizon?

Get a life.

Pretty much this, unfortunately. Some of you are acting like Verizon is being forced upon you when Apple is just providing another option. Guess what? If you like ATT ( I do), then stay with them! If you prefer Verizon, go for it. If you can't handle not having voice+data at the same time, that's fine, stick with ATT. There are 90+ million people on VZW who do not seem to have that problem, or can live without it and that's fine too.

Most of the confirmed sources that have been specific have been parts suppliers in the east. This means simply that a CDMA phone is likely in the works. There are dozens of carriers on CDMA around the world not just Verzon in the US. it is just as likely that Apple wants the SK Telecom market in South Korea or Skynet in Russia or Tata Indicom in India as much or more than it wants Verizon in the US.

This also assumes the sources which have always remained nameless are real. It further assumes that because Apple is ordering CDMA parts that a new phone is "imminent" instead of a year out. It is just as likely that the integration of CDMA chipsets and Verison compatibility might be in the iPhone 5. As far as I know Apple is selling these phones as fast as they can make them, why strain supply?

We had iPhone and iPad rumors for years before they came out. We had "imminent" rumors for years on both as well. I think that Apple would be very smart to wait a while and make the iPhone 5 carrier independent. Make it both GSM and CDMA compatible and start selling them to everybody. That however assumes they can make them fast enough or stockpile enough of them to meet demand.

Well some of us would get an iphone if it came to Verizon. But that doesn't negate the truth that this is the same rumor that has been repeated many times and is still wrong. There will be no Verizon iphone until 2012 and perhaps not even then.

I wonder if this was a sanctioned and 'approved' leak by Apple to let the masses know what's happening and to foil the holiday sales of Android devices and other smart phones, if the masses knew they could get the iPhone on Verizon in a few short months?

Merry Christmas Google! ;)

I agree

While I doubt I'll switch to Verizon any time soon (I want their LTE network out before I even consider switching) I think this is great news. I wonder what the exact details are though because Verizon is generally much more into crippling their phones than AT&T. I doubt the phones will differ other than one is CDMA, though.

I'll believe it when i see it. Quite frankly, just because the WSJ or NYT say so doesn't make it probable. They said the same thing for the past 3 years. If it does come to verizon, ill be happy and sad in a way. Happy that Apple finally came to their senses, but sad because i won't be able to get it for another 2 years (2 yr contract w/verizon, just got a Droid X at the end of August, which i do love btw, but nothing is as good as the iPhone imo, the only thing stopping me was AT&T)

screw that! I just got the incredible, but have no problem paying retail for an apple product if Verizon does get it next year!

Dang dude. You've said this hundreds of times. Almost spamming it. Contracts for supposedly 2012 agreement between ATT and Apple may have ways around it. Or things like incentives like in sports contracts for performance. There are more and more articles like this recently. Making this Verizon iPhone more and more likely to happen. You probably don't know the whole agreement. Sorry to burst your bubble ATT fella.

You don't know this. Stating it as fact does not make it so.

There will be no iphone on Verizon until 2012. The exclusive contract was revealed in a court case. Since then there has been "rumors" the contract was reworked. That rumor has usually accompanied rumors of Verizon iphone that turn out to be false.

So until there is actual evidence the contract has been reworked we can only say 2012 at the earliest.

And after 2012, the real issue seems to be contractual agreements between the two companies rather than technological issues.

In any event, given the track record of these rumors, I can say with confidence that there will be no Verizon iphone for several years. Certainly I have more confidence in that statement than the WSJ or NYT have in there repetitive claims.

There will be no verizon iphone in 2011.

There have been rumors before but have these are articles in both the Wall Street Journal and the NY Times that are saying this is going to happen early next year. Not that it may happen, etc etc. They are quoting sources, though unnamed, with direct connection to Apple. I realize journalism isn't what it quite used to be but these are credible reporting outlets not random bloggers where most of the previous rumors have come from. Editors of these papers aren't letting them print something like this without vetting these sources. You are also getting big "no comments" from everyone involved. If Apple wasn't going to let this happen they would deny these rumors to protect their holiday sales of Iphones that could be potentially lost for consumers waiting past the end of the year to buy the Iphone with Verizon. Certainly At&t would be upset for the same reasons. Apple gave At&t the Iphone 4 for 6 months so they could lock up as many contracts as they could in that time period.

Haha.

No, New York Times.

Maybe by 11/11 there will be a Verizon iPhone. Although chances of that still only 37.8%.

The more I look at the "statement" leaked, it specifically mentions the iPhone4 - not the iPhone4g or iPhoneLTE or whatever the Core's LTE enabled iPhone will be. I think it will be just an CDMA iPhone4, no LTE of any kind.

On the other hand, I've used both GSM and CDMA phones, and there is too much static and "can you hear me?" on GSM, imho.

I may just get out of the phone race and start buying anonymous disposable phones at a liquor store.

A CDMA only iphone on Verizon would be a bit of a let down considering LTE is rolling out this fall (2010). I'm in the camp that would be surprised to see Apple/V go the CDMA only route.

I wonder what the Anti-AT&T Apple Fanboys will focus on once Verizon gets the iPhone? At least it will be a different whine.... :)

I use both carriers and find them just fine. Hardly any difference. Coverage in my area is as near equal as two companies can be.

Again... so they're *always* wrong?

Like how in '06 they announced Apple switching to Intel? They were wrong then?

wowsers... I didn't know we were still on PowerPC.

You apparently know nothing

about contracts.

I'm more interested in how they are going to do the releases. If Apple releases the iPhone 4 on Verizon in March or April and then ATT releases the iPhone 5 on ATT in July...that's going to be interesting. It seems like it would make more sense to release them at the same time instead of the staggered release that the articles are saying.

Add to that that LTE phones aren't scheduled to arrive on Verizon until April, it's probable that Verizon will receive an LTE-capable iPhone 4, while ATT will get the iPhone 5 a few months later. That way Verizon customers won't feel like they're getting the short end of the stick with getting an older model iPhone while the new one is only a couple months away.

Show me the new contract.

Yes Yes, But I've heard these arguments before.

My sources tell me there will be no verizon iphone in 2011. My sources are all the previous rumors that have amounted to nothing. My reporting on this is more reliable than what we are reading from WSJ or NYT.

You heard it here on macrumors. No verizon iphone in 2011. I should make a thread in the forums on this.

Yes, but Apple has wanted a Verizon iPhone since day 1. So no matter how many times you say it won't happen, it doesn't make it true. Right now we have more reasons today to believe a Verizon iPhone might happen than we have since the iPhone was originall released.

Show me the new contract.

Show me the existing contract.

No we don't. We've heard all this before.

There wil be no verizon iphone in 2011.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I am a Verizon customer myself and I'd be thrilled if it were true.

Confirmed: Apple and AT&T signed five-year iPhone exclusivity deal -- but is it still valid?

"...

The term of Apple and AT&T's iPhone exclusivity deal has long been a mystery -- although USA Today reported a five-year arrangement when the original iPhone came out in 2007, that number has never been independently confirmed, and it's been looking suspect in recent weeks as Verizon iPhone chatter has gotten louder. But we've been doing some digging and we can now confirm that Apple and AT&T entered into a five-year iPhone exclusive in 2007, based on court documents filed by Apple in California. Read on!

And of course there is speculation that the contract was reworked. You know who always adds that little caveat? The people who want to keep the rumor of a verizon iphone next month/quarter/year alive. They never offer the proof of a new contract.

Yes, we do. We have more plausible reports with more backing than we ever had. Show me any of the previous reports that A) called it anything more than a possiblity and B) the NYT backed the WSJ with a source of their own.

Once again...stating it as a fact doesn't make it a fact. Unless you are involved in the decision making process, your word means squat.

You're not the bearer of bad news. You're the bearer of nothing more than speculation....just like the rest of us.
