C'mon

I can't see it... HTTP 404 not found

Can't find it on Itunes either

Can someone help!!

Finally they're out after months of waiting, but it really disappoints me with the big price tag, I don't think a LED backlit display, 1GB more ram, 40gb more hard drive space, a glass track pad and a 9400m is really worth 200-400$ more...
I think Apple missed this one with their MacBooks... the Pro's are just great with Hybrid SLI and all the other whistles and bells... and not so costly...

So lemme make sure that I have this straight....

No touchscreen display
No Blu-ray
No significant 17" MBP updates (the 15" has better GPU than the 17"!?!?)
No matte display option

I actually returned a 17" MBP I had purchased in August because of the rumors that the next generation was coming out soon. I expected SOMETHING worthwhile. They may have actually gone in the WRONG direction for the 17" since there is nothing significant AND no matte display option.

Apple = Dropped ball

Great points.

But since you registered here just to vent (this being your first post), I suggest you send feedback to Apple were they will actually see your post.

I would be frustrated too, however venting here will do little to get you what you want from Apple itself. ;)

I think you'll find those prices are quite close. UK prices include tax whereas US prices don't include tax until after you make the purchase, then consider the length of warranty you get in the US is less than what you get in the UK.

I think the sales tax for example in California is 7.25% (which also varies from state to state), do the math and that adds $96 to the price, convert that into £££ and you get at a guess £50 in tax. Now the difference is about £150. I think that difference is justified because our warranty periods in the UK are longer than what they are in the US. 90 days vs 365 days, that is actual hardware support, not the telephone support. Correct me if I am wrong on any of this please.

US gets 365 days of actual hardware warranty. 90 days for telephone support that isn't related to the hardware warranty. 365 days of telephone support if it is related to the hardware warranty from what I understand.

I'm not buying these new MBPs.....not doing the glossy display thing, and I hate the complete look of the black keyboard.....

I just went and purchased the older model 15" MBP for $850 less than it was just earlier today (from the refurb section...though the last one I purchased from there had never been used. I suspect that these are brand new machines just labeled as refurbs so that Apple does not stagnate the inventory of their dealers -- that still have old stock).

I will wait 2 years before I upgrade.

Blah. I don't like it, but it's growing on me. I'll save for the Pro model because I have expensive tastes (15"). But I'm NOT crazy to spend the extra coin for the better processor and bigger hard drive. I can't justify to myself spending the few extra hundred for it. Plus tax, I'm looking closer to $3000 (Canadian) that way.

I think these are great

Awesome looking machines. I guess I'm in the minority, here. I already have a glossy MBP. When you can control the environment – which you usually can – you get better contrast, better colour, and darker blacks.

The changes here are significant. I love that the image will pop out more due to the black bezel. I love that the keys are no longer plastic that's painted silver (always a very tacky move). I love that all the ports are on one side so now someone can make a decent docking station. In fact, it's pretty cool that the new display pretty much IS a docking station. I love that the graphics performance is WAY up. Anyone comparing this, stylistically, to a Sony or HP should take a closer look and notice the level of detail at the edges of the laptop, or where the glass meets the aluminum. I thought Apple had made a mistake with the bevelled edges on the iPod classics, but seeing them in person sold me. I'm going to trust Johnny Ive's eyes (that have poured over this product for at least a few months) over knee-jerk reactions on MacRumors.

Admittedly, the loss of Firewire 400 is upsetting. Simply for the cost of the extra adapter. Space shouldn't be a huge issue, though. You're already carrying a FireWire 400 something, if you need it. And the adapter can't be THAT big.

Someone tell me what to do!
I just got a white macbook 2.4 ghz last week
I can return it for $50 and get the 2.0 ghz base model.
Is it worth it?
Will it be slower?
How do the bus speeds compare and how is 2.0 faster than 2.4 given the faster bus. I don't get it.

Missteps!

These laptops look great, but they really don't suite the needs of what I'm sure is a huge percentage of mac users who use their machines as multimedia stations. There are two reasons:

1. Firewire

Why apple would eliminate firewire 400 ports on both of the new macbooks is beyond me. Firewire 800 has not been adapted nearly as widely as 400, so even on the Pro you are looking at connectivity issues, adaptors and the like. The change is especially odd considering the ecosystem of firewire hard drives, video cameras, audio interfaces and thousands of other devices that apple pushed for in the first place. Remember, Apple INVENTED firewire! Additionally, firewire provides much more reliable and sustained high-speed transfer rates that are processor independent.

My guess is that as Macs become more consumer friendly (and less focused on prosumer/professional), they decided that most people wouldn't miss firewire. They may have a point, but they risk alienating a large consumer base that has been their most consistently loyal: graphics and media professionals and hobbyists.

2. Glossy Only

The lack of a matte screen option on the Pro is a serious misstep. Any graphics professional knows that glossy screens artifically boost contrast and color values to create images that pop, essentially artificially sweetening the image, but obscuring its true essence. While this may look pleasing in some circumstances, it makes appraising color in pro apps much more difficult. One of the great thing about powerbooks and macbook pro's was that it was a portable, pro-level graphics station. No longer.

It's a rare misstep but highly notable. Apple has for so long been able to marry gorgeous, minimalist asthetics with cutting-edge performance, and it is a bad omen to see them removing advanced functionality for the sake of design.

My guess is that Apple will receive a lot of customer feedback about this and eventually bring back matte option for the pro and a 400 port standard in the smaller notebook.

The large gesture-based track pad is cool. It may take getting used to but no doubt is the future. I for one am not sold on the touch-screen technology that Apple has promoted since the advent of the iphone, I prefer the tactile response of buttons. It is unfortunate that apple has made the decision for me as to what sort of interface I use for these computers.

I for one will be buying a refurb last-generation powerbook this week, one that is 40% cheaper, only fractionally less powerful, and comes with firewire 800/400, and a full HDMI port.

So disappointing.

Apple really is "sticking it" to the man. All the adapters you need to buy for the new monitor, getting rid of FW400 on both the MB/MBP, and the incredulous price of the MB. Just wow.

Apple is abandoning their "ProApps" users big time. Still OSX does not support BD playback or authoring in DVD-SP. It really is quite shocking considering Apple is a player in the film industry, yet they are holding back on this. Even the glossy display on the MBP can get shown as a kick in the pants. It's just really aggravating.

One FW port on the MBP? C'mon. You need at least two, one for the P2 reader and the other for the HDD. I am a film student at Drexel and 2 FW ports is vital for dumping cards in the field. I'm going to get knocked because some smart a$$ is going to say "well you can get an ethernet to FW800 adapter", but my response is why should I shell out the cash?

the Mini Display-port connection really makes me angry because the adapters are so expensive for older type monitors. They add a new monitor to the lineup, but the poor mac mini hasn't been updated in forever.

This was a step backwards.

apple did not just take a step backwards, they took a step sideways into an oncoming train. I did not know I needed a laptop carved out of aluminum - what a waste - give me the old case w/2 firewire ports and some saving. Frickin solid aluminum - at what cost?

Form follows function - WTF apple?

you could return it and buy a refirb blackbook for $1099 $1049 for the one you have refirb. dont know the answers to the rest of the questions.

MBP over lenovo hands down

That's good because you cannot buy a new style 17" MBP at this point ;) .

I like the new styling, but I also liked the outgoing design (for the most part). Not having the grey plastic trim surrounding the aluminum is a feature I will gladly accept on the new models. I never liked the metal framed in plastic (since the Ti days), and am happy to see it finally gone!

The only thing I have to decide now, Do I go with the MBP, or should I go through the Lenovo I have been lusting after :( .

I had the itch to buy a lenovo touch screen x61 tablet over the mbp a year ago. had to send it back 3 times and it came back worse. I sold my lenovo on ebay for $1000 less than i bought it. Then I went out and bought a 2.5 15" mbp. Worth every penny...but the new one should be even better.

Some questions about new MBP

I bought a MBP 3 months ago and noticed a few issues but still a great computer. I was wondering if apple addressed these on the new MBP.

For instance....

- The ambient light sensor in the speaker grid (when your hand goes over the speakers the screen dims.)

- The fan noise and heat issues (many have to use smcFanControl.)

just trying to decide on keeping my current or to buy this one. If the fans are fixed it's a go!

IBM machines really have gone downhill since they sold their desktop/laptop line to lenovo.....

I just finished watching the keynote on my phone and I really enjoyed it. Kudos to Aplle for all of their wonderful work!

I'm glad that the MacBook Air got updated. I'm a little bummed that there wasn't a speed bump or a price decrease, but more room on the hard drive is nice.

All I can say is that I will finally be a proud owner of a MBA in late December. :)

I've watched the keynote and enjoyed it but I am desperate to see the Questions and Answer Session which they hosted at the end, anyone got any idea where I can see it?

Dear Steve Jobs, please explaine to me how...

i can get my video content from my camera witch has FW connectivity only ,to my macbook so i can use iMovie on it wich is one ( software ) of the 6 pillars you said that made the sailes go so strong.

I realy think this is a big mistake ,basicly just like the one that was made with the first Base station N wich did not have the 10/100/1000 connectivity but only 10/100. The base station was fixed within a couple of months i hope this will happen with the new Macbook aswell.

I'm waiting for that update before i buy one thats for sure and ik hope a lot of people do so the problem is solved fast.

Why did nobody ask this question during the Q+A steve would have gotten a red head if you ask me.

I feel somebody was too much into design here and forgetting what you wanna use the device for.

Please fix this ASAP.

PS i already send an email to apple on the macbook feedback page please do so aswell, if you feel the same as i do ;-).
