Hi

I recently realized most of my devices are now Apple. Funny how that happened, I think I might have inadvertently become a fanboy.

Also I recently copped a Mac Pro 1,1 (for next to nothing) and then yesterday a Mac Pro 2,1 (for nothing from a cool local guy) and am looking to MacRumors for some info on how to optimize them.

I'm in Eastern Canada hiding old computers I drag home from my wife.

Hello! I have been a follower and reader for a long time. First love with Apple was iPhone 8 Plus and later ipad 6th gen.
Now 16 Pro Max and Ipad Pro M2 with a wide Apple ecosystem in the background (watches, homepods, appletv...) :)

Dear Friends, I just joined the site today. I have an iMac Pro, an iPad Pro, a MacBook Air, an Apple Watch 3, and an iPhone 8. I feel compelled to hold on to my iPhone 8 as I have read it written some places that the marketplace drove the makers to stop making mobiles with removable batteries; I therefore am waiting for Apple to make one that is compliant with the 2027 EU rules for batteries. Otherwise I shall have to abandon ship and buy an android with a removable battery; after all, I did read that bit about the market driving the makers of the mobiles to seal them in. I should mention that when the Apple Shop replaced the battery in my mobile, they broke the phone and had to give me a new one (this caused me to lose whatever I had not stored in the iCloud).
Sincerely, CC

Hey,

New member here. Long time Mac user, but also long time Android user. However recently started using and developing for Apple Watch / iOS, so learning here

This will be a bit of a test... Another of these threads started with good intentions... but was soon taken over by regulars.

if you just joined MacRumors, reply and introduce yourself.

This is only for new Macrumors users... only users who registered within two months of the current date may reply...

All other users posts will be deleted. (moderators, please enforce this). This will be for myself included... only comments by truely "new" users will be allowed in this thread.

Discuss away...

(this could fail miserably if no one replies :) )

Well, I'm replying, so it's not a total failure. I just joined MacRumors, although I've known about this site for a long time. The reason I'm joining is that I went out and actually bought my very own Mac, rather than depending on the computers sent to me by Apple. I decided it was time that I learned the Mac in more depth than I have, and the only way to do this is to use the computer on a daily basis for my own work. I can't ethically do that with a loaner machine.
I'm a science and technology journalist based in Washington, and I review technology hardware and software. I have used Macs on and off for years, and I've used machines based on operating systems as far back as HDOS and CP/M. In addition to my new Mac, the platforms I use regularly include Windows machines, Linux and Unix along with mobile devices running iOS, BBOS and Android.
My work appears in Forbes, CNN_Underscored, US News and Contrails Magazine. I'm a former Executive Editor at eWEEK.

hello i am joh and i am a fan of the macbook air 11" — sadly discontinued on 27 october 2016.

i have twelve eleven of them (just sold one — and another one or two of them are probably for sale). i have never bought one new. my favourite is the last model apple made, the 7,1 with the 2.2ghz processor. three of the ones i have have a factory fitted 512gb apple ssd.

i read somewhere that this version came with the same PCIe 2.0 four-lane interface as the 13" macbook air making it significantly faster than the regular 2.2ghz machines, but i am not sufficiently technical to know how to tell :)

Hello there!

Way back, I had a MacBook Pro around 2006, and later the first MacBook Air with the M1 chip — but I ended up selling it. Now I’m back in the Mac world, refreshing my email nonstop to see when my new Mac Mini M4 ships haha!

A Very Long Time Lurker, at least over 15 years, I think.
Anyway, retired Royal New Zealand Air Force technician of 11yrs, then Security Manager 7 yrs, then finally a retired paediatric nurse of 30 yrs.
During these times, in the 80s, learnt about computers to enable to install them into a security control room, plus MS Basic and then HTML & CSS.
I have written CSS UI's for and I'm forum moderator for Bruji Pedia's (hope I'm allowed here to give that shut out)
We endured 20 yrs of MS hell (Dos 3 to Windows 7). With Windows, I always said it was like putting my car into the mechanic weekly just to keep it running smoothly and securely.
Now, my partner and I discover the Temple of Steven Jobs in 2007 We've had & have iPhones, iPads, now a Mac mini M4 replacing our 2nd and then venerable iMac 27". Apple TV 4k 64Gb (2nd Gen), Apple HomePod mini, Airport Time Capsule 5th Gen.
I have always read Macrumors before all other Apple news forums and have found them to be a true and accurate source to all things Apple.

I think I find it truly impressive that this thread dates all the way back to 2002 while still being posted in to this day.

I joined recently because I started to fall down the rabbit hole of making vintage Macs useful again, specifically a black Core 2 Duo MacBook and a Dual 2GHz Power Mac G5.

New member here and happy to be back in the Apple world after 35 painful years of Windows. For reference, my previous Apple product was a IIgs. I defected to Windows after that and have lived in that world until about 3 weeks ago. I love my new Macbook Pro and find myself wondering why it took so long to get here. I feel like I've returned home.

I just joined today. Hi all! I bought my first Mac in 2006, which was a white MacBook, and my first iPhone was the iPhone 4. However, I have known about Macintosh since the 1980s. I didn't know about Steve Jobs until the early 2000s.

Another new guy here. Lurked a time or two over the years.

My first Mac was a used Mac Plus in the mid-90s. Current devices: 15" M2 MBA and iPhone 14 ProMax.
