Great News!

It looks like our 20 inch (1gb and video card) is on the move. It says it has been shiped (Package data transmitted to FedEx). We ordered on the 16th with an estimated ship date of the 24th and delivery on the 31st. Now it is saying it shipped on the 22nd with an estimated delivery on the 25th. We will see what happens.

I am so excited! I feel like a kid at Christmas.

Hopefully it will be fine and not have 'issues' like berkleeboy's.

If my replacement has issues, I'm going to send it back and get a refund.

I've had mine since the 18th

20" imac Duo, 1GB RAM, 256 Video.

I run it dual monitors (native 20", and a Dell 2005FPW)

It is definitely a great mac, but I think it was released too quickly. The fact that there isn't a Flash player for Safari really sucks. Running safari in Rosetta isn't a big hangup, but you can definitely tell it's more snappy running without. The novice consumer is going to get frustrated when 15-20% of the websites they navigate to won't load.

Mactheripper rips extremely fast compared to my 1.25 mini with 1GB RAM. But burning the DVD using Toast 7, after the rip is extremely slow, about 20mintues or so. (that's with compression)

One thing that I'm very excited about is this is the first computer that can play a movie on one screen (reading from a TS folder, or from a drive) while I'm working on the other screen. No hiccups at all. And it gets better.

The source TS folder is held on a firewire drive, connected to a mini running OSX Server 10.4.4.

Also I'm a designer, so my life revolves around Adobe/Macromedia products. I haven't even bothered to install CS2, I'll just continue using my Powerbook for that until a Universal Binary is released.

If anyone has any questions or tests they'd like me to run shoot me a message.

To give my honest opinion if you're thinking of buying one of these machines, my advice would be, wait. Unless you're using apple apps soley (ilife). Otherwise your current machine will probably run everything you've got just as fast.

Look at your system info because Safari is native Intel and doesnt run under Rosetta.
Unless you select it to..

You'll be fine. I've owned 2 Powerbooks, a G4 PM and a G5 PM, and this is the happiest I've ever been with an Apple computer.

Yeah, even under Rosetta, going from a 667Mhz G4 Powerbook and a constantly breaking Dual 1.5Ghz G4 Cube... the performance leap will be incredible. I was in the Apple Store for over an hour yesterday playin' with an iMac and man... great machine!

Rosetta runs some things iffy, somethings not. For instance, I just ran a speed comparable to Dual 2.3GHz PowerMacs in the Photoshop test posted int he Mac Hardware forum. And that's through emulation.

I just saw that time, and sweet Jeebus, that's awesome. I had actually considered getting an older SP Powermac G5 and monitor instead of the iMac just because of the upgradeability at first, but man, I'm glad I went with the iMac. It's blowing older G5's out of the water.

Photoshop

I just installed Photoshop CS on my iMac. I'm not a heavy user but I don't see any difference from my G5 (1.8 single processor). With all the talk about how slow it would be, I'm impressed. I'm sure it would be a real dog with the stock 512 meg of memory but with the 1.5 gig it's not bad at all.

Yeah it's bizzare. They can not be running a first come first serve basis at all. I placed my order on the 15th 20" with 256 + 2GB CTO and my estimated shipment date is the 25th? I keep checking in the vain hope that it will ship soon so I can have it toward the end of next week, but it looks like I'm out of luck.. :)

mind you Apple shipment policy is very strange. We don't get to choose express shipping options like you do in the states.

When my first 15" powerbook shipped from Shanghai via TNT it took 12 days to arrive. When my replacement 15" PB (long story) shipped again from Shanghai via TNT it took only 5 days? Also I've had a couple of deliveries between those two from Apple and they came by UPS.

So who they use is a mystery to me?

Well, it said 25th on mine as well, but it got shipped today (via TNT). I wonder how long it will take. I'll tell you when I get it :) . Ordered a 20" with 256 MB VRAM, 512MB RAM. I'll upgrade the RAM as soon as my bank account displays black numbers again :D .

EDIT: I can't seem to track my package on the German TNT-website. Has anyone tried this? It keeps giving me a "Package not found".

I know... my point is you have to run it in Rosetta if you want to browse any Flash based websites... I'm not going to change it back and forth, so It's always running in Rosetta. And most people won't know to turn Rosetta on for Safari, therefore won't be able to view flash sites. :(

Also I just watched a movie through a remote network drive while ripping CDs, no hiccups and an import speed of 12X (that's from the CD drive)

It sometimes takes a few hours up to a day for tracking sites to have your package.

Can't wait!

Hey all! I ordered a 20 inch Intel Core Duo Imac a week ago from Macmall. Same price as Apple less tax, shipping was minimal (UPS ground). The new Imac has 1 GB of RAM installed on 1 chip. I worried after reading posts here about the RAM hungry Intel Imacs, so I ordered another 1 Gig of RAM from Crucial (who also reported it on backorder). I received an email from Crucial yesterday that my RAM has shipped. Cool! So it looks like I'll have a 1 Gig homeless chip unless by some small miracle (and I don't believe in miracles) my new Imac should arrive this Monday or Tuesday! At least I know it'll be here before toooo long. I have a PowerPC Desktop G4, so I'm going to have fun testing them together. I suspect the new Intel Imac is gonna f-l-y pass my ole trusty, but rusty G4. I will unfortuniately have to wait for Apple to rewrite Logic Pro to see how it will perform with the new chip. But I figure it'll be a wait well worth it. [A request.] Will you guys who believe in miracles please pray to your God that I might receive my new Imac this week. Bless you! Later . . . :D

Thats really weird because my DTK was using OS X86 10.4.3 and flash worked fine on Safari..

I ordered mine on the 17th and it was shipped in two days from China. It went like this:

First day:
China > Alaska > Arrives in indianapolis

Second day:
leaves indianapolis after being cleared > goes to portland

If only FedEx delivered on Sundays ... and yes it's like Christmas!

Dang, now I feel bad that I ordered that RAM upgrade from Apple... delaying my order by 5 days! Maybe I should just buy a 1GB stick elsewhere... almost the same cost, and that way I have 1.5GB versus 1GB. Plus, it'll come faster!

Oh, never mind. I just checked, and it's both the RAM and the upgraded video card that are holding it up... so meh - I'll just keep it the way it is.

Edit: Ah, what the hell. Edited the order to a 512MB stick, and will place an order for a 1GB from somewhere else. 1.5GB RAM! Woo!

I think my order's being held up because of the iWork pre-installed....I should have just bought the darn thing separately...:( But, I guess the extra ATI memory is holding it up to, which I would not take off of course :)

*reloads Apple Order Status page again.....*

See this is why i'm worried with my Replacement. That's route I thought mine was going to take, But It was last scanned in the Phillipines at 12:43 January 23rd..... I checked International Priority and FedEx Transit Times say i should have it on January 23rd, but the Tracking info says I won't get it until January 27th.

I called Apple, and asked if I could get any type of refund for having to wait this long for a replacement, and they said I can send you a iPod Nano Armband *woW!*. I was kind of dissapointed that they wouldnt say okay we'll take $100 off for being a patient customer and what not. But whateve ,we'll see what happens.

Well according to my order status page on Amazon, it's too late to change the order, which means it's shipping out soon...hopefully tomorrow!!! :D

Well - I've got it!!!!!

I must be a total Mac geek, I drove to the local TNT depot to pick it up at midnight!!!!

First impressions (10minutes!) are that it is QUITE, really quite - the sound of typing is loader than the fans, my breath is louder than the fans... And safari is blazing fast for some reason... blazing.

I will do some tests in the morning because it is now 1.26am (although I'm not tired, so might some tonight)

That's awesome! I was surprised in the store that even those iMacs that had been abused all day were running virtually silently. After all the loud-fan horror stories from the G5 iMacs, I was worried.

Definitely keep us posted on how it performs!
