So I guess that extra $33 I paid for 2-3 day shipping ment nothing to FedEx. Argh...now I have to wait even longer...come on :(

Not true. I paid for 2 day shipping and that's exactly what I got. You just have to factor in whether or not Fedex got it before the cutoff time on that particular day. Regardless, you should have it day after tomorrow.

My iMac has been sitting in Anchorage since Saturday unless the tracking info just isn't updating. Last update I had was:

Jan 21, 2006 5:10 PM

Departed FedEx location

ANCHORAGE, AK

You would think the plane would have landed by now, a full 2 days later.

Mine was the same way. I got an email last Friday morning saying it had shipped. When I checked the tracking info, all it said was that it was at Fedex in Shanghai. It was yesterday afternoon before I saw anything about it even getting to Anchorage. A few hours later it had already made it to Memphis, been sorted, and was in transit to Dallas. If I were a betting man, I'd say that your computer will pretty near delivery by this time tomorrow.

Get a mirror and hold it up to the iSight for video!

My iMac hasn't been shipped yet, but they DID ship the printer I got as well. According to FedEx it was shipped on the 20th, even though I didn't place an order until the 22nd. Hmmm... can FedEx see into the future?? No wonder they have such fast shipping times!

Jan 11: Order 20" CTO w/256 mb video and 2 GB ram
Jan 21 (20th): Left Origin Shanghai
Jan 23 (22nd): Departs Subic Bay, Freeport, Philippines

Interesting note: Freeport is the Asia One hub for FedEx.

Looks like our macs are buddies as that is the same shipping info I have. I also got the 20'' with 256MB and 2GB. I'll always feel a strong bond with you from this day forward. :p

Oh, never mind. I just checked, and it's both the RAM and the upgraded video card that are holding it up... so meh - I'll just keep it the way it is.

Edit: Ah, what the hell. Edited the order to a 512MB stick, and will place an order for a 1GB from somewhere else. 1.5GB RAM! Woo!

the dual channel memory bus of the core duo won't like unmatched memory pairs, so I'd recommend just replacing the 512 stick outright with the 1 gb one. then when you're ready for another upgrade you can max out with another 1gb stick later. 1.5 gb would technically "work", but you wouldn't be getting the right performance compared to 2 sticks of 1gb or 2 sticks of 512mb even.

it's actually better to max out "all at once", at least to try and ensure you're getting two of the same sticks of ram (same latency, overall speed), so maybe it would have been better for you to just keep the order at 1gb ram (single sodimm) if you weren't able to get the full 2gb config up front.

it's true that getting the memory direct from apple is exponentially more expensive at the 2gb level, so i'd go with a reputable 3rd party for a memory upgrade, like owc/macsales or crucial...

I've been playing around with my new iMac for a couple of hours, and it is awesome. Everything is as smooth as silk.

If you're thinking of getting one of these, quit waiting and buy it already. You won't be dissappointed (unless you're one of the unfortunate ones who gets their order delayed until the middle of next month).

Crucial RAM

My 1 GB RAM was delivered this afternoon for my backordered Intel IMAC, damnit! I so want this new machine to hurry on its way. Can't wait to power up this new IMAC with 2 GB of RAM. My mouth is watering just thinking about it . . .:D

We have triplets.

I ordered the same set up (20 inch, 2 gigs, 256 meg) and am on the same flight. Looks like we have triplets coming over.

Jan 23, 2006 2:48 PM Departed FedEx location ANCHORAGE, AK 12:45 AM

Jan 21, 2006 3:33 PM Departed FedEx location SUBIC BAY FREEPORT PH
Left origin SHANGHAI CN 2:50 PM Picked up SHANGHAI CN

This will be my first Mac after years of working in the design field always in the PC world I thought it was time I ventured in to the Mac side to see what all the fuss is about. :D

i wasnt very observent of the shipping times when configuring the system. i just wanted to max out everything. so that its all covered under apple care, i dont have to buy things elsewere, and its just easier. :D

i wish i would have noticed the shipping difference for the 500G HDD

......b/c I WANT IT NOW !!!!!!!! :p

Im glad all of you are getting yours now and are putting up such great feedback.

Man, it's that 500GB hard drive. I thought about doing that too, until I saw it turned my order into a 3 - 4 week wait from a 3 - 5 day one. I figure I'll just buy a 500GB from newegg.com for $340, it's only $70 more (edu pricing), and that way I'll have a spare 250GB drive from the iMac I can put in an external case. 750GB total, only $70 more!

well i've got mine set-up and everything, and i'm impressed so far. right now i'm still transferring files and stuff though. i'll be able to do more stuff tomorrow on it.

i do have 1 bad pixel though. it sucks, but i guess i can live with it.

i put in an extra 1 gb stick of ram myself, so i have 1.5 gb total.

i also have a 300 gb external hard-drive.

wasn't it supposed to come with a mini-dvi adapter thing?
